I prefer to keep it simple. If a planet disposes other by exaltation, the first one benefits from such a position (the second one exalts the first, literally puts it on piedestal). It does not matter whether the second one has some essentional dignity in that place or not. It is awestruck by the first one's supposed force. Exaltation is always something exaggerated, overrated, etc.
In sports charts exaltation or disposition by exaltation is an exceptional condition, it's even better than house or disposition by house.

Actually, the planets behave like antique gods used to behave in the Olympus. They love one, hate other, are complete indifferent to a third one, etc.
For instance, take Aries. It is the house of Mars, exaltation of Sun, detriment of Venus, and fall of Saturn.
Whatever planet happens to be in Aries, it is awestruck by the grandeur of the Sun, is submissive to Mars because he is its boss, hostile to Venus and contemptuous to Saturn, neutral towards Moon and Mercury.

So every planet takes on some good characteristics of its boss (dispositor) and the planet who exalts in that sign (it may manifest in a braggardly manner) and some bad of the planets who have detriment and faul in that sign.

Thank you for the good explaination. Venus and Mars are planetary opposites, ie. rule 1st and 7th houses of the chart. Hence, the interpretation is interesting when either of those planets move into the domain or whatever other dignity of the other planet. The analogy would be that Mars has to overthrow himself and submit to Venus in Pisces due to Venus' superior exaltation, even though he himself is essentially dignified (?)

A planet that is essentially dignified is on qualified grounds and has a reason to perform and deliver, even if in lesser dignities in the sign of his detriment. Like Venus in her own terms in Aries - a nurse operating and carrying out her propper business in the battlefied.

I will have to think it through. If I follow you right, then Mars in Virgo would have an upper hand on Venus because Venus has her fall there?

Regarding other details of the chart, ie. Mars is combust the Sun, yet Venus is in the detriment of the Sun. This is a condition I twisted my head round a few times and casually termed a 'deception', which means that Venus benefit, yet she weakens or lets down the Sun.

An interesting discussion, I am sure you will agree. :)

Yes, it indeed is an interesting discussion, Andrew. I think you got my point right. However, in practice Mars position in Virgo, Venus fall, might not be always fatal to Venus. I expect that he would have the upperhand on Venus if he happens to be accidentally strong, otherwise not. Yes, he might wish to harm Venus but being in, for instance, 12th he has little accidental force to materialize his hostility on Venus. He may be likened to a tiger in a tiger pit.

Frankly, it is the same problem for me to go too deep in weighing receptions. We are concerned only with the rulers of ASC and DSC, or alternative planets which mach best with the colours of kits. We do not need to have a good mr in a sports chart as we would expect in a love chart to judge a happy end. In a sports chart receptions help judge who is in whose power.
If it were the hour of the Sun in the Celtic - Rangers chart making it irradical, it would have been be a puzzle who actually would benefit. I still believe it would be Venus, however, irradicality is used to bringing about unexpectancy as it has a tendency to move the result away from the fave.

Thank you, Andrew, for your comments. We have to keep cool head and just observe. 8) :P

By the way, Janis, did you put the mutual reception between Mars and Jupiter into yesterday's bag? I missed that one - but it is interesting in view of Venus also being in mr with Saturn. Saturn holds a higher essential dignity, thus background resources for Venus, than Jupiter does offer Mars?

However, Jupiter as the dispositor of Mars, opposes the domicile of Venus, as Saturn, dispositor of Venus, opposes the natural sign of Mars.

No, I didn't. It' s getting too complicated. I think mr between Mars and Jupiter was of no importance into yesterday' s chart. Jupiter ruled no particular angle and was significator of neither team (royal blue, purple, claret, cherry, violet, lashy green, etc.) Whereas Venus' s and Saturn's reception had to be taken into account. It' s a very strong one - Venus was in the sing and term of Saturn, whereas Saturn was in the sign and term of Venus; so reception not only by house but also by term.

Had we judged a horary "who would win this play-off serie, A or B", we would have taken mr between Mars and Jupiter into account, and I agree with you that Saturn can offer better background resources for Venus than Jupiter for Mars.

I think we must also take into account the very essence of Saturn, he may harm by far harder than any other planet. He really has got a knack...

So Venus disposes the greater malefic Saturn (in his exaltation) by sign, but Mars, the lesser malefic, (in his triplicity) by exaltation. In a funny way it sounds as if the Peace (Law & Order) is being administrated by the military. This we can and should discuss at the mundane section. (!) Libra and Pisces both have scales, cast their antiscia to one another and represent balance in the outer and inner(hidden) worlds.

Janis, while I am not 'immediately' digesting the idea that Mars in Pisces submits to Venus (and am probably playing the role of resistance), this is one of the most interesting thesis' to surface for some time and should be thought thoroughly through. You put the idea to practical use, and the demonstration of strength in your astrological analogy is a treat.

Generally I think of disposition as someone having a kick-around in an area (field) someone else owns. I believe the dispositor administrates this area, yet this administration and control cannot be properly managed and gifts cannot be bestowed unless the dispositor is at home in his own sign, seat of dignity - or is himself elsewise dignified. If this state of dignity is not present the dispositorship is reduced to a 'tag' and the dispositor is victimised, for good or for bad, by whoever is frequenting his office or domain. So Venus is 'burdened' (or rather roughened up, as it were) by the presence of Mars and Saturn in her offices, unless these planets are essentially dignified.

Saturn is his exaltation disposed by Venus by sign will fill Venus with strength and celebrity pride (unless the haughty and over-shooting arrogance of exalted Saturn is a hassel). However, the implications of what you are suggesting re the relationship between Mars and Venus suggests that Mars is literally PITCHED and 'straddled' by appearing in the sign of Venus' exaltation. The meaning being that the ruler of a sign holds order OVER that place, while the ruler by exaltation puts the place UNDER order.

The idea of remote control through dispostion still needs to be thought through, yet since VENUS and MARS in the case shown, ie. the match between Celtic and Rangers, was a two-way contest, there may have been an advantage for Celtic being able to READ and MANEUVER their opponent - and besides Rangers (MARS) were given TWO RED CARDS!
