Not had any official horary training- just self taught- so here goes:

Querent= Cap-Saturn ruler at 4 degs Lib/8th
Quesited [trip]= 3rd house Pisces [*intercepted] ruler 0 deg Jup Rx in Aries/2nd
Co-Sig=Moon/Leo 3 degs in 7th
Querent's partner= 7th House/ Cancer-Moon ruler
End of matter= IC 11 deg Taurus- Venus ruler at 27 Lib/9th

Using the classical planets only plus Ptolemaic aspects:

Querent/Quesited in aspect: 4 deg Saturn opp 0 deg Jup Rx [separating]- 2nd/8th respectively- indicates caution/ financial concerns which opposes idea of trip [Jup=overseas?]< Rx indicates trip has been mooted in recent past. Both planets square the Asc- adding further conflict/anxiety to the querent as to thought of going away.

Moon as Co-Sig of the situation is ruler of 7th and is placed in Leo in the 7th- indicates partner's input/idea- is he restless/wants fun and enjoyment/sharing/ in a nostalgic place to both and where there is sunshine? [Possibly a country ruled by Leo- Italy?]

Moon aspects, within orb: firstly Moon separates from Jup, ruler of *intercepted Pisces/3rd, indicates past thoughts of trip by partner to a place where both have been before [?] -but idea is 'squashed' or hidden; Moon then applies to sextile of Saturn [querent]- not exactly an aspect for enjoyment but a sextile shows some ease towards the idea of the trip and eventual agreement between querent and partner. Before the Moon leaves its sign of Leo it travels towards a sextile Mars [drive/focus on trip] then to a sextile of Venus, ruler of the end of the matter [as well as ruler of the 5th of holidays], who is in 9th house and in Via Combusta.

Judgement
Moon/Leo [partner and co significator] and its applying aspects is more persuasive/dominant over cautious/wary Saturn/Libra [querent] so I feel the trip was eventually agreed to by the querent and planning went ahead.
Mercury, ruler of the Hour of the question and as a backup indicator of trips/travel, is Rx and intercepted in Virgo/8th- indicator of delays/frustration- problems with money flow or passport/document loss?
The end of matter is shown by Taurus IC, ruler Venus/Libra/9th- while Venus is in its in its own sign [romantic feel to the trip/holiday] it is unaspected, having moved away from a conj with Mars, on its own/stuck/nowhere to go?- and it sits in Via Combusta- did the trip get delayed or just didn't go ahead in the end- or if it did go ahead there may have been problems/difficulties in the actual location?

*I also consider Mercury as ruler of intercepted 9th/Virgo- don't know whether this is the right approach or not- not too clear on intercepted signs and their rulers as I use equal house/whole signs usually...If this approach is wrong and if the 3rd house is ruled by Mars/Aries and 9th by Venus/Libra then the symbolism of the chart doesn't fit for me [??]

By What Means?

Travel by Air :ASC+Uranus-Cus9th=Gemini 20 d 56 m

Travel by Land:ASC+Cusp9th-Ruler9th=Sagittarius 21 d 42 m

Travel by Water:ASC+15degCancer+Saturn(Am)=Libra 15 d 52 m

In our case , the 9th's Cusp is occupy Libra 13 d 49 m two orbit from Libra 15 d 52 m.

Our VIP has been on a boat?

I also consider Mercury as ruler of intercepted 9th/Virgo

I find it is visually confusing when you switch from Equal hse to Regiomontanus -but I see Virgo is intercepted in 8th - which you did mention earlier in your account - With Libra/Venus ruling 9th & Aries /Mars ruling 3rd. --I think you will find it interesting to see how the outcome fits the symbolism - not long now!

MingWei & Handn have both mentioned Mercury R in a way I had not considered - but I think Mer & its subsequent movement could be relevant - I need to look more closely and then hopefully add something more when Deb posts the outcome.

Deb wrote: it's not all about the location because we don't want to forget the story of what happened on the trip too, and whether it proved to be enjoyable or not.

The cardinality of the chart and the t-squares Ur/Jup opp Saturn sq Asc, Node would attest to difficulties/problems during the initial stages of the journey resulting in delays getting to the destination perhaps with Ma/Sat and Ju/Ur involved would it be due to volcanic activity?. Also Sat L1 sq Asc..(perhaps the location was bleak/barren) but ultimately Venus exalted not only disposits Saturn and Mars but as ruler of 9th suggests a romantic and positive outcome (an anniversary or renewal of vows?).

I have just posted the updated PDF file which includes Rhona's own analysis of the chart and her account of what subsequently happened. Although it would have needed a lot of experience for anyone to see the exact nature of the defining event in advance, the symbolism was strong and giving appropriate warnings in this chart.

http://horary.co/pdf/good_trip.pdf

It's interesting how Rhona had a bad feeling from the start and the chart was able to confirm her need to be 'on guard'. There were some good contributions on locations but although its nice to get the extra details right, the main concern is how effectively one could answer the most important question - "will this be a good trip?". Given the circumstances I'm sure we would all agree that the answer was 'no' - in fact it could be argued that this chart was giving reasons not to go.

In my experience horary symbolism doesn't try to be clever or complicated, and will express itself in an obvious and straightforward manner if it can. Following on from Rhona's comments, I think it has done that here with Pluto rising, asc-ruler in the 8th, and Moon in 7th.

This is quite a dramatic chart for quite a dramatic event - thanks again to Rhona for sharing this personal situation with other astrologers.

Hello Rhona/Virgo24, and all

I'm sorry for your and your husband and family's loss, Rhona. It must have been a very distressing time for everyone, to go through that experience can't have been easy at all. I hope the jocularity in the thread hasn't been uncomfortable. It was brave to offer the horary for public discussion. I think it's generally brave for anyone to offer a chart for conversation in a public arena, but obviously in a situation such as this that applies all the more so, so thank you for bringing it.

This is one of those occasions where you'd like to be able to say I'm glad the chart was wrong and you had a good holiday and astrology doesn't work, but alas.

Again, condolences to you and your family.

H.

I now see that radical venus/end of matter/9th/via combusta needed to be expanded to get more detail about why it was not a good trip and to do that the chart needed to be turned. I am sorry to hear of your loss virgo24 but thank you for sharing and clarifying. x

Thank you Handn.
With a stellium in Virgo & ruled by Sat, I see everything as a learning experience and have test everything. I drew up the chart not only because I felt unsettled but also to "test" horary. I was blown away at how powerful even the very basic significators were, in what appeared to be a rather simplistic question - & how accurately they played out. This is what drove me to share it ? and perhaps because again I was testing out the theory with "strangers"
It's interesting to me that Mercury (the hour ruler) was retrograde at 9 degrees Virgo at the time of the question and had returned, this time direct, almost to the same place on the 18th of September - the planned departure date.
Good observation about Mer being "almost" back to the same position ? I checked to see when it was exact - it was to, within the hour, we received the 1st phone call alerting us to the change in my mother-in-law's condition. Astrology never ceases to amaze me!

Also because
MingWei
retrograde mercury .He is closed to the Sun the 2nd house of her husband. Mercury Combusted ,received or been under a power or help form the Sun the authority, leader, parents .Jupiter placed well and strong at Aries 0 degree in her second house and her husband 8th house, all of that refer to Money ,Own or Other's .
Intersting because we did receive a small inheritance from his mother

Many thanks to Deb for adding more appropiate signification to the outcome and showing the cmplex layers held within it- I think the turning of the chart was highly illuminating.

PS I have not been offended by anyone's comments, I have found it a very positive experience

Virgo24 is Rhona?

I am very sorry for that bad news~

Let's back to horary.

It seems I made a mistake thinking Saturn in 9th house but he in 8th house truly , however his depositor Venus was in 9th house well so that the trip was success.

Venus also was the ruler of 4th house which indicated his mother placed in the 6th disease house (from 4th husband's 10th ) and separating conjucts with Mars! (the 8th death house from 4th) .His Mother got uncomfortable before your trip, please add all the information together (4th Mother-in -Law +6th disease+8th death +separating conjuction)

Above all is to be wise after the even and feel sorry one more time.

As usual it is so easy to be wise in hindsight but in my defence I did make a list of my observations before looking at all the other posts (haven't been on skyscript for a while), and one of the things that hit me straight away was the South Node on the Descendant.

I would have interpreted that as a loss to do with the husband or destination. In a different scenario something could have gone seriously wrong with or at the destination, such as say as the plane landing in North Japan just 10 minutes after the tsunami or all flights to the destiation being cancelled half an hour before departure. Also your husband could have taken ill maybe.

In my admittedly limited experience the nodes close to the horizon seem to make a major statement, natal or in horary.

If you include the outers then Pluto on the ASC would have reinforced the theme of something heavy going on.

What I found so interesting in this chart was that initially it looked like quite a benign and attractive proposition; only a closer look unearthed the more difficult stuff.

Rhona, all the best to your family.

I agree about the nodes - interestingly I looked at it the opposite way round, perhaps because I was the querant, looking at the North Node on the Asc as being some sort of "gain" which taken with its cjn with Pluto (death) turn out to be accurate - easy to predict in retrospect. With the benefit hindsight there was so much symbolism held within the chart but its obviously difficult to be so specific beforehand.
