I came back to this thread precisely because I was looking to order Carol Wiggers' course, but I noticed her website is dated 1997 and the links to pay for the do not work. Has anybody beel able to buy anything from that site lately?

By the way, I have learned a lot from Frawley's books, as well as from Barbara Dunn. Do try learning from book if you can, they are all very good.

I took Chris Warnock's course and I would recommend it. He's a good guy and is always willing to answer my questions, even if they are not relevant to the current lesson.

I've been to Sue Ward's site and have read all her pages for students. Her program sounds terrific...comprehensive. The Foundation course (18 mos.) sounds appropriate for someone who has gaps in traditional techniques, and still gets to horary.

Upon completion, you earn "Certified Traditional Astrologer", and then you can move on to her Diploma Course (2 yrs) which sounds intense and requires accurate/correct interpretation of 3 horary questions.

The Foundation course is one fee (85 pounds). For the Diploma program it is a fee per lesson. All said and done, I think it is over $1,000, but sounds like it's worth every penny.

Don?t study Western horary and Vedic astrology at the same time. It?s too difficult. At the very least, take a class in horary, and dabble in Vedic astrology for awhile. Trust me on this.

A good teacher makes horary astrology much easier to learn in the beginning. Horary is applied intuition ? you either have the natural ?gift?, which is something you will figure out pretty early on, or you don?t. If you don?t have natural talent, you can still learn a lot from a good teacher. I say this as someone who is self-taught, with the knowledge that I do not have natural talent, although I am decent at determining yes or no in my horary charts. As you read the judgments of folks who are keen horary perceivers (some of them hang together on here, including the amazing Deb) you will see how these people synthesize a huge amount of info from a chart that those with less of a knack simply don?t pick up on. Once again, this is not to say that a good teacher doesn?t help those with less of a ?gift?, and I include myself in this less gifted category.

You don?t need a strongly intuitive approach for Vedic astrology in the beginning. Curiosity is enough. Unless you need a teacher to spoon-feed it, Vedic astrology rules for beginners are simple enough to learn from a good book ? I recommend James Braha?s mid-1970?s classic, Eastern Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer. Follow up and reinforce with the recently published Path of Light Vols. 1 and 2 by James Kelleher, both available on his website. Each Kelleher book is very expensive, and worth it you have a good grasp of the material in Braha?s book, which can now be had for a mere few dollars used.

Next come the nakshatras. Don?t bother going further in Vedic astrology until you have mastered these. This usually means taking a break for months and just doing nakshatras, and nothing but nakshatras. If you can?t name each of the twenty-seven nakshatras, call up a dozen to two dozen associations for each asterism, match them to the natal chart of someone you know well, and describe the differences in a male and female nativity for each nakshatra, you are not ready to move forward.
I recommend Prash Trivedi?s Celestial Portals for nakshatras.

Astrologers tend to dismiss him because the book didn?t have great editing, and was targeted to a pop audience. These are people who didn?t read the book carefully enough. Hart de Fuow?s slim book on the nakshatras can?t hold a candle to Trivedi?s book, even though de Fuow is more respected as an academic astrologer.

Without exception, the best resource on nakshatras on the web is at www.barbarapijan.com. Plan on spending a week there. After this, you?ll go back and spend a month there. Any less and you didn?t exhaust the incredible gift she makes available for free (Vedic astrologers normally charge for everything because of the way the tradition evolved in India). She shares insight on her pages that I have never found elsewhere, and is exceptionally accurate. That said, the website is poorly edited and incomplete, but this doesn?t lessen the value of what she offers.

When you have done all of this, you are ready to start yogas. This is the point where you need a teacher. If you have mastered Vedic astrology basic rules on your own, and really know your nakshatras, and have done a natal rasi for everyone you know well and studied it, and made an effort to understand the nakshatra of every married woman you know well, as well as every person over age 35 whose life you are intimately familiar with, you are now at the ?intermediate? level when a good teacher is worth gold if you want to take it to the next level, where you start to need the sort of intuition that you need right from the beginning with horary.

Beginners in Vedic astrology who start with a teacher right away usually do so because they are intimidated by the ?foreignness? of the system. Beginners also mistakenly think that a teacher will get them to yogas in three to six months because an experienced Vedic astrologer made some bulls-eye interpretations using yogas when they went for a reading. They somehow think that a teacher will short-cut the ground work that it takes to get to this point. These folks are wrong.

So take a class in horary, and go exploring for a year in Vedic. May a bright star light your go-chara (cow-path)?

There has been much talk about Frawleys methods and how he does reception backwards. In the first case oweing to the fact that he is fairly intelligent, he must know what reception actually is.

Why do you guys bash him so much? Are you afraid of unsuspecting people being converted? Is it Jealously? The question had nothing to do with frawleys technique and its bad enough that their is that picture of him on skyscripts facebook (Tom Flawley?) the last time I was on there. Due to all of the critics toward him Im not sure what to think of it. Is it just a harmless joke? Mysterious indeed....Yes I suppose he uses it backwards but he also knows how to use it frontwards too.

Its possible that his way of viewing planets as liking each other may be of his own invention, but Bonnati gives an example of a relationship question whose outcome hinges on the two planets being in each other decension, even though they are in mutual reception. Sun in aquarius and satun in the sun. One could owe this to the fact of the two planets being in detriment, but bonnati does point to the importance of factor of planets being in each other decension. Is it really a stretch to imagine that due to the sun being in the deriment of saturn he hates everything that saturn signifies? The planets are in mutual reception. The sun receives saturn. Yet if this showed the sun liking saturn wouldent they have gotten married? It was by a benifical aspect not opposition, and the fact that they are in detriment but still have the best intentions to help each other but muck it up just isent good enoughh for me.

Whats more planets need to be in aspect to have reception and this is true, but even if they are not in aspect they can still have disposition to each other. The most concrete way of this being shown is n medical horaries. Oscar Hoffman was a student of Frawley and wrote a book about medical horary. These dispositions are a key factor in deciding if the treatment/medcine or surgery will be harmful or not to the querent.

I have also not had very good experiences of the faster planet being more "keen" on starting the relationship as according to the querents asking the question, this was not always the case.

Whats more Frawley does seem to give his own ideas about the considerations before judgement,but thats not why he discounts them. He simply feels that they wont explain much more than what is already given in the chart. As for saturn being in the 7th or 10th house are you really going to let it dictate how you judge a chart? Nonsense.

Thats my opinion on the matter. I am not an acolyte of Frawley but I respect him and I respect his work. Due to all of his accomplishments he must be doing something right.

I accept he the premise that one should not make up stuff at whim, but this slavish idea of "Its not in the traditonal sources so it means nothing, is also a dangerous road to take. astrology has fixed rules but it is also an organic subject as well.

There are interpretations, and there are plain wrong. If you want to use it anyway, well, there is no astrology police, as I always say, but it becomes modern astrology.

"Slavish" is again, opinion. But if you are saying that forum members are full of fear and jealously, please, adress your comments in either a more focused way (somebody said that and that and I feel that...) or please refrain from doing such open stated but strongly remarks, which ended it up being adressed to a lot of people who are not represented by these kind of strawman.

Because people don?t agree with you, it is usually not because they are filled with jealously, it is not a productive remark, and it adds against your point.

The problem for me is that I have just a "mild" very "basic-explain-to-me-like-I-was-a-12-year-old" kind of understanding of horary/astrology. I have never found an astrologer who speaks "English" and knows how to talk to someone in their "own -mortal-language" in their explanation of a question to me. LOL

I ask questions but i dont understand their answers and when i keep asking they get all upset. i am sorry, i dont understand what you are saying....

so, i would LOVE to know - please - for any of you outthere, can you help me - refer me- to a site, or a place, or a person, who can teach me the way to interpret my own horary charts? I dont have much money and i am not that bright with the terms, but i have read up on this. i am aware of the place, time and location of the question and when is the best time to ask....and believe me....these past three days I HAVE A BURNING QUESTION TO ASK but i dont think i can anymore...

I appreciate you reading this....i need to start doing this on my own. i saw those other sites OMG!!!!$$$$$$ how expensive are these prices....$55 for 1 horary question....!!! $150 for three if you pay in advance!!!!! Foreclosure/Bankrupt....people everywhere.....this is so bad.
