This is an astrology discussion forum - not a free chart interpretation/tutorial service. The forum exists for committed students of astrology and we don't want posts saying 'this is my birth data - what does it mean?', or 'I've done a horary chart - what does it mean?' Even if you put 'please', 'I desperately NEED your help', or several exclamation marks after your header; we still don't want those kinds of posts.

We are, however, interested in discussing topics that help students understand broad issues of relevance to all astrologers. So requests for information on particular techniques are appropriate and often this is best explained within the context of a chart you are working on.

I have no idea if the following is allowed:

I have a personal project of taking the natal chart of the school that I went to and seeing what I can male of it. So, I have gone to the school archivist and have obtained off her good data. Unfortunately, this data does have times for the school's founding, only dates and a possible time. Also, there are a number of dates that one could use. I have the date of the school's opening, it's date of name incorporation and other dates. So I feel that this is quite a "grey area" of work without a clear black and white way of doing it. Thus I feel that this is a challenging exercise for learning rather than just a case of "here's my school natal chart, what does it mean?"

I have never posted a chart here. I use ZET 9.0.52 LITE. So, as a test, here is a chart that has nothing at all to do with this exercise. Rather, it is just to see if I am making effective posted charts:

For the "birth" of a shop, usually the hour is taken that the doors are opened for the clients; in that spirit you migt experiment for a school's birthchart with the date and time of the first teaching? After all, that is the core business of a school! I know a lot of preparation must have gone before, but would like be the gestation of the school...
I suppose first time classes being given would be easily traceable in your archives!
Another possibility would be time and date of an official openings-reception *IF* there was such a thing...

It's been a while! I've always had the charts. But when I came back here a few months ago I didn't see this thread and thought that it had been zapped.

OK. I will get my charts together and continue this thread.

OK. There isn't a lot of point in making this into a blackbox task. I will have to give the geographical coordinates of the school. Thus any reverse look up would get what the school is.

The school is TPS: The Peninsula School in Mt Eliza, Victoria, Australia. [NOT to b e confused with the school with the same name in the US.] There is an official archivist. From her I got this data:

"To answer your question about TPS' founding. There are a number of dates, so I have listed them for you. I'm not sure of times unfortunately.

1. 23/7/1958 first informal meeting of people interested in starting up an independent school on the Mornington Peninsula.
2. The name, "The Peninsula School" was decided on 3/6/1959.
3. 6/10/1959 The Peninsula School was created as a incorporated company.
4. 7/2/1961 the School first opened its doors to students. The first boys arrived at 8am, but school started at 9am.
5. 25/2/1961 the Official Opening of The Peninsula School. "

Thus I have decided to start with [4] for 9am. I am treating this as a natal chart with Aquarius as the sun sign. This is just to start somewhere. Every approach has its problems. For instance in Australia a lot of schools will be Aquarius because that's when the schools start the year. If I moved to the US the schools would all start the same again for a new sun sign. Thus to me a school's sun sign can't be treated quite the same way as that of a person. A school sun seems to express the collective energy of education in that country - rather like a collective outer planet.

Anyway, I would like to say something about the school, its controversies, energy etc. I spent 6 years at this school in the 1980's/early 90's. Then it was an all boys' school. [it went coed after I left] It is massive. The grounds were a golf course before 1961. Then, as an all boy's school, the whole place had a real "machismo, warrior energy". Cadets was compulsory for 2 years and it involved going on excursions to military bases. There were a lot of ex and current military people here. There was even a person called a school Marshall [mars + hall] who oversaw the cadets who was still a member of the army. So if I had to pick one planet to sum up the school it would be mars without a doubt. It was pure mars energy - everyone was expected to be athletic, have strong muscles and be able to do drill with 13 pound rifles. Any boy who didn't fit this got no sympathy at all and was blasted as a "wimp".

So, my main interest is to look for anything martial in the chart: mars and possibly pluto/scorpio.

I add that the history of the school has involved its share of violence/controversy. In 1991 there was a suicide attempt in the school boarding house. So, pluto as an energy of extremes would be worth a look at in the chart.

If I had to point to any outstanding example of the school succeeding it would be 1993 when a student there got the best mark in the entire state. Of course it is a private school. To translate that into a term that other countries gel with, it means that it costs the earth to go there and the school is not controlled by the education dept and can set its own policies, for better or worse. Back then the whole school had an "old" feel to it. The demographic of teachers was old and male [then] about 90% of the time.

We didn't produce anyone of note. Unless you count that dreadful band Australian Crawl.

For some reason it's blown up. The chart on my PC isn't this big. I don't know how it's occurred. I am using imgur.

Since the chart has been shown to be incorrect because I forgot about AEST [thanks to Alice for pointing that out!] I have removed the chart; it was too big and blew up the whole thread.

I am enjoying this thread. As in the OP it is a "major" project that will take a long time.

The previous chart was calculated for 9.00 am GMT. Below is the correct chart for 9.00 am AEST.

Note Mars conjunct the IC.

Yeah. Mars action there. Seems pretty consistent with my OP and the pretty macho machismo ethos that this school [at least then until it went coed] had.

Raises the point that maybe if you had this data before choosing a school you could choose better I mean, all that marching around in military gear wasn't quite my thing. Even now, about a decade and a half since it went coed, the martial aspect of this chart still fits pretty well... the school magazine that I came across this year had a person on the front page marching around in military gear.



As an aside the school lost a former student a few months ago. He was murdered in Detroit in a rental dispute. He was a high profile property developer and builder and he tried to evict somebody. They called someone over who shot him dead. Stupid and tragic waste.

I was also interested in the exact Pluto-Node conjunction in the 6th house. The 6th house covers public service of all kinds and one can see Pluto functioning as armed forces, the North Node suggests groups of people. It is in exact opposition to Mercury conjunct South Node, perhaps suggesting quite a bit of bullying that they try to keep undercover?

The school was born on a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Capricorn and this would give a very authoritative approach to education and probably connections to politicians and government officials of various kinds? Interestingly this conjunction is the focus point of a quintile pattern also involving Venus and Neptune, making up a midpoint structure of Jupiter-Saturn=Venus/Neptune. I am not sure how that would work for a school, but, as Venus is the ruler of the third house and Neptune the modern ruler of the 1st, it is important. One would assume this configuration would encourage creativity but that is not so likely in a military type establishment. Maybe the encouragement of music bands?

Alice, thank you for making such an effort! I would never call myself an astrologer; I just know bits and pieces out of books. But what struck me at first glance about the chance was:

[2] Saturn in Capricorn in its own house: 10

Not sure what that means though.

You are probably correct about the school's musical culture. People can be complex and have many aspects. Schools can be the same as in this case; this school had a repressive military aspect and it had a musical aspect. We produced our fair share of musical people: the band Australian crawl who all came from the school is the most striking example. But there have been many, many other former students, not as well known, who have gone onto more classical musical careers such as tuba, concert pianist etc.

I am not sure about bullying being "covered up". But bullying was certainly handled very, very badly by the school. There was a lot of "Hee-man" type bullying where someone for no reason would kick, punch or headbutt somebody as a sort of "thrill-kill, my muscles are bigger than yours" thing. They would bully like that in front of everyone. As though they were saying "my body is a weapon, here's how it hurts people and I am proud of it". Again, to me I go back to Mars as an energy. This was more "Mars" type bullying - the male body itself as a weapon [there were never any knives or anything like that at the school] rather than say, Pluto which would be more Ninja bullying.

Once I had a classmate who was picked up by a number of students and smashed head-first into a brick wall. He spent the next class period with his head in his hands. But rather than doing anything to help him the teacher - an ex military guy - offered to teach him how to fight so next time he could "hurt a bully so badly that he would never come near him again". This was I meant in the OP by a "warrior" and "mars" type culture. Crazy what went on. Totally crazy.

I add that the whole point of the exercise is to try to understand the school - in both ways good and bad - I am not out for a bloodhunt to sledgehammer the school. It had its bad points though. No doubt about it.

Note that in the OP I said "controversies" as a plural! I will get to them!

I have have now inserted the chart in normal size in Alice's post above in both Koch houses (her selection) and in Placidus. The differing house systems do lead to interesting variations.

Ps In future please ensure you mimimize a chart before saving it to your desktop for posting up.
