Lunar node in Lilly's ephemeris 1 by Eddy In Christian Astrology on p. 11, just after the list of chapters of the book, http://www.astrologiamedieval.com/tabel ... rology.pdf , I saw a page of an ephemeris of january 1646 used by Lilly. In it the Lunar node has a very variated motion. I compared this with the ephemeris of Astrodienst http://www.astro.com/swisseph/swepha_e.htm (note that England hadn't accepted the new 'Catholic' Gregorian calendar reform so that in the Astrodienst ephemeris you have to look 11 days further.) When the mean node is used, its motion is always retrograde and moving regularly. The true node of the instantaneous lunar orbit is less regular and can move direct from while to while. However, when you compare both the mean and true node in the Astrodienst ephemeris of jan 1646 none of them corresponds with that of the ephemeris page in CA. It is in the same area of 10 Leo but its oscillation is much larger than in the Astrodienst's and I believe much larger than ever is possible with the True node. While one can see a variance of 3 degrees in the true node between the beginning and the end of a month, the ephemeris of Lilly shows a difference of almost 4? between 2 and 10 january. I don't think that such a wide span of a true node is possible within 8 days. Lilly mentions eclipses in the accompanying aspect list, and these are correct according to the NASA eclipse lists. I wonder what is going on here. Perhaps others know links to (several) ancient ephemerides so I can have a look at the node.
