Spirituality and Horary

1
I wonder if anyone has used the horary astrology for spiritual purposes. I know that this is a natal astrology job, yet as a horary fan, I wonder if there may be spiritual horary queries. Does anyone have an example?

I am aware that this idea breakes the sound principle of horary that came from Olivia Barclay "Much of astrology is unprovable waffle. The advantage of horary questions is that they work and can be seen to work." Horary is not intended for such questions.

Yet, I remember Lilly's example: "An ingenious man with much seriousnes propounded the Question above, viz: Whether he should obtain the Philosopher's Stone?"...

So I'd like to ask for such examples... if anyone is willing to share some of them.

It depends on what you mean by spiritual purposes. I follow a spiritual path that works intensively with dreams, and have occasionally asked horaries about dreams, i.e., 'Is her dream a premonition of a physical (health) crisis?' Admittedly this is rather tenuous and questionable from the traditionalist point of view...

Yes, "odd questions", of all kinds... I am mainly interested in the spiritual field.

I find myself at times in the need to know if such or such thing is good for me or for somebody else from a spiritual point of view. So far, I've taken the turned 9th house from the quesited house to represent this spiritual perspective on the situation.

The spirituality may be also a part of a rather 'common' question, such as one concerning a choice between two paths. A situation may be rewarding on the material level, but not quite good for the spiritual evolution. I hope horary could shed some light on this too.

Some relationship may be bad at the first glance, but be a very good way to burn some karma and learn and practice some sound moral & spiritual principles.

It depends...

Of course, the interpretation of a such horary will depende on the spiritual perspective of the astrologer, on his/her education in this field

I don?t know if this fits your criteria. However, since it is a question from a spiritual practitioner, this is as good a place as any.

I haven?t finished the work-up as yet - hope to post in the next day or so - it isn?t coming together as easily as it might. So I thought I?d put up the background and data for anyone who might want to have a looksee in the meantime.

Question: When will I get my 2-storey house and the money to go with it?
Asked at: 1.02pm Sunday 29 May 2005, Adelaide Sth Aust (GMT + 9.5) 138e35 34s55 (Asc = 11.59 Virgo)

Background
?A? is a talented healer and clairvoyant who has felt as though she?s been stagnating for a while and needs some direction. Does private healings without fee. Wanted to open a meditation group early last year but insurance requirements stopped her from going ahead then. This is something she would dearly like to pursue, not to necessarily lead it but rather to facilitate a spiritual centre for others. This is one of the reasons for the money part of the question. She gave up her job several years ago to pursue her spiritual interests.

In addition, A wants to ensure her 3 small grandchildren (and 2 nieces!) have every educational opportunity (more money). I haven?t explored with her why she feels so strongly about this being something she needs to provide, or at least have in reserve.

A and her husband T have been in their current home for about 18 years and A would very much like to move. Preferably to a 2-storey house. Has felt herself ?separating? from her current one for some time, doesn?t want to be there anymore. Not from her husband note (that I?m aware)!

Basically, she doesn?t feel she can live in the new house till she?s taken care of everyone else! Wants the money in order to share it. For the good of all. However in her words ?it doesn?t hurt to ask for something I want as well?.

I don't think that horary is any less spiritual than natal. The traditional view is that natal charts are mostly about our lives, the people and events in them. It's the modern view that says that natal charts are exclusively about out inner lives.

You could ask many spiritual type questions. Instead of asking a lot of "Will this or that happen..." type questions, a better way might be to ask, "Should I do this or that..." While that might not be overtly spiritual, it is asking for guidance to see if you're on the right path. The level of spirituality is not in the chart, but in the question.

As I mentioned on several posts, back in March my beloved cat Zeppo got sick and I did two charts on his illness. For the last one in particular I really wanted to know if I was doing the right thing by putting him to sleep. The chart showed many signs of death. That chart gave me more comfort than any other I did, even though the outcome was bad. I felt like I had received a clear answer from the heavens, and that alone made me more confident in believing that there is a pattern and order to life. We can't see the unseen, but we can see a chart and it's message.

Does this answer your question? If not, what exactly are you curious about?

I?ve had an enormous amount of trouble getting into this chart and I don?t quite know why. (I may simply be a bit wary of my ability to incorporate receptions following the recent discussions on forum. :( ) So I offer up what I have and hope someone can point me in the right direction. I?m seeing A on Thursday evening.

I also rang A to inquire a bit further into the financial side of the question and discovered she had gone ahead with a small meditation group at home once a month. The initial insurance problem was with charging a fee to cover costs. So she went ahead at home without fees. As far as the grandchildren were concerned, she wanted to be able to offer to finance additional education for them if there was something in particular they wanted and wasn?t affordable any other way. Their choice whether to accept the offer or not.

Querent (A) is Mercury, combust in 9th. However in Gemini it is in its own sign and term and Saturn?s triplicity as this is a day chart. The descriptions for Mercury and Virgo include tawny or honey coloured and small, slender limbs and ?a searcher into mysteries and learning?. So I judge the chart radical as this describes A and her spiritual orientation. Mercury rules the Asc and MC in this chart, possibly indicating A?s current focus on manifesting externally her inner life.

The combustion should be restricting A. However the Sun doesn?t have any power to act, it has no essential dignity and only accidental dignity being in its house of joy and the 9th. It is in Mercury?s (sign, term), Saturn?s ( day triplicity) and Jupiter?s (face) territory.

The question was about money and another house, so 2nd and 4th.

Venus rules 2nd and is posited in the 10th conjunct the MC, received by Mercury it provides a link to it in the 9th. However it too is in Saturn?s day triplicity and term. It is also trine the cusp of the 2nd and rules the 9th. Would this confirm the 9th house focus and at the same time indicate her desire for money to finance her dreams is not unrealistic? It has only accidental dignity by being in the 10th. It is past the sextile to the NN in Aries in the 7th house of relationships, she left work 3 ? years ago (working with others for income). Fortuna is disposited by Venus and read in the 9th and indicates her ?treasure?. Venus is past the square to Mars

The Moon, her co-significator, is in Aquarius, received by Saturn in sign and triplicity. She is approaching a trine to both Venus and then the 2nd cusp from the 6th of daily habits and health. It?s interesting that the Moon is separating from the conjunction with Neptune by the same amount that Venus is separating from NN. As I said in the above post, A made the decision to leave her job to concentrate on her spiritual work. This was after a vision of a ship turning around to sail out to sea when she reached a sudden determination ?not to miss the boat?. Moon and Neptune indicating (lifting of) fog, emotional desire and water in the house of service. The Moon is also sextile the NNode in the 7th - showing her desire/service involves other people.

While the Moon is in its face it has no dignity otherwise. At the same time it trines Venus and the 2nd cusp, it will sextile Pluto in the 4th of home. It would seem A?s desires are expressed in this chart quite well, but what is the outcome? Pluto is also in Saturn?s terms.

Things seem to be pointing to Saturn. It has accidental dignity in the 11th, in mutual exhaltation by sign (Cancer) with the Moon and in her face ( :bl ), in Mars? triplicity and Venus? terms but its own detriment. So Saturn (restriction, teaching) is in the house pertaining to groups, hopes and wishes but its mutual exchange with the Moon (desire, emotion, house of service) shows the delay in starting anything larger scale such as the spiritual centre she would like. I don?t however think it specifically denies this. In fact the Moon will directly oppose Saturn 1 degree after forming the trine with Venus and sextile with Pluto. I feel the answer to her dreams of having a meditation centre may be ?yes, but not yet? and the ideas of money and house will be sorted first.

Jupiter in the 1st is a co-significator. Typically indicating expansion, it is in mutual reception by exhaltation with Saturn as well as being in his triplicity. So Saturn understands the desire for expansion but applies restriction by having more strength. (NB the Asc is 40? conjunct F.S. Zosma giving attributes of being depressed, unhappy and feeling restricted). In Libra, Jupiter is received by Venus by sign and term and is in the Moon?s face (again!). So again we have the desire?s signature.

Given that Jupiter also rules the 4th and the Sun will trine Jupiter in a little over 1 degree, I think the restrictions may not ease too much but that A will accept them more readily or differently over the next little while, possibly a month or so.

Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are all in Saturn?s triplicity. He operates from a position of strength but is not unaware or unsympathetic to their desires.

Saturn is received by the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Mars.

So it would seem the money may well be forthcoming after delay. Venus is mutable-angular the Moon is fixed-cadent. Fast and forever. How do we feel about 3 years instead of 3 decades? This would also jell with Mars triggering a square to Pluto in the 4th (both mutable-angular) at the same time as the Moon-Venus trine operates.

Mars in Picses in the 7th of relationships indicates that A?s husband may well control the outcome. He is apparently reluctant to move house again but knows that A is set on it if the money becomes available. Mars is received by Jupiter and exhalted by Venus ? he may control the money and A respects this? Mars is after all, in his own triplicity, term and face.

A currently seems to be passive in this scenario and it may take a confrontation to resolve her mind on it. It may take until Mercury is cazimi. She stated they don't currently have the means to accomplish the things she wants and she would either have to win the money (she's not a gambler) or be given it as a gift or inheritance etc. I don't see that in this chart - but neither do I think the chart denies the money or house may become available. Mars rules the 8th - death, insurance and other people's money - could this be the awful outcome? I judge that it will be another 3 years or so before any of this can be put to rest. Time will tell.

I think so. :) I particullary liked "The level of spirituality is not in the chart, but in the question."
This must be the answer I was waiting for.
Thank you, Mark!

Horary is mainly about questions, not about topics. If the querent is focused on the question, then the answer must lie in the chart. The rarity of the spiritual horary questions might be explained as the people who seek spiritual advice in their lives either seek it inside them, either use the modern natal astrology.

I feel very tempted to explore this area of horary by introducing asteroids (Chiron, others) or other elements such as Lilith or the Galactic Center.
For instance, I once asked a horary question about attending a course on a special Tibetan method of healing, called Prananadi, somehow similar to Reiki. Chiron was in the 3rd house and the 3rd house cusp's antiscion was partile conjunct the Galactic Center (information on how to use the healing energy of the Universe). Of course the traditional methods of horary gave the answer anyway, but it is fascinating to see the other astrological elements blending in the horary chart and creating a chart full of astrological symbolism.

I would really appreciate some comments on the above judgement as I'm seeing the querent tomorrow. I'm not at all confident of what I've come up with, but will have to go with it otherwise. :? Anyone care to add anything?

"Should I do this or that..." While that might not be overtly spiritual, it is asking for guidance to see if you're on the right path. The level of spirituality is not in the chart, but in the question.
I also think this is right on the mark (oops!) :D

Siraxi,

I think if someone was genuinely seeking spiritual guidance from astrology they would use whatever tequniques they felt would give them appropriate information. Whether that was divining it from natal + progressions or asking a pertinent horary question. It's all in the timing.
