Papus Astrology for Initiates by J. Lee Lehman

Hello everyone!

There is a diagram on page 21 concerning planetary domiciles and distinctive connections. In figure 8, they show the domiciles and also the distinctive planets in each sign that have either a plus or minus sign.

Does anyone here know what these plus & minus symbols mean in this diagram?

This is something new for me.

Yes, it is confusing (+) is the Exaltation sign of the planet but (-) is the Detriment sign of the a planet.

I found all the Lilly tables needed for the Lord of Geniture poll here at the forum in the Papus book I am currently reading. Good timing!

I have had the Papus book for years and found it buried on my book shelf. had never read it before.

This is all new for me and I haven't been actively studying astrology for many years. Just recently developed a strong desire to get back into it.

What does a book review involve, have never done one before?

Surprisingly, Lee Lehman doesn't even list this book on her website. I had to search for it in google books.

I didn't have any significant issues with the book as Lehman includes lots of footnotes on the pages to explain the meanings of terms use by Papus (Gerard Encassue, 1865-1916).

She also included many copies of the original diagrams use by Papus, including his tables from Lily's work.

The book starts off with information about Papus that fills you in on his history and activities in occultism and astrology. Goes through the information & principles used in chart making and includes after all that a step by step list of what exactly to do following the traditional methods as was generally practiced in his time.

The only section I have difficulty in understanding completely was a chapter in the back of the book on the procedures for calculating a calender. Got very complex and was full of terms I don't understand.

But for the most part I found the book to be easy to understand and assimilate and as a beginner I benefited from the knowledge imparted.
