actually just skimming over this last article, reminds me of someones work who had developed a means of entering in all of the phases of planetary cycles to arrive at a chart that showed up and down phases in economics based off a synthesis of all these cycle phases.. if i find that i will share it also...

As I dont read French I have never been able to read the books of Andr? Barbault so I am very grateful for the link to his articles translated into English. He does seem to be a highly respected and famous astrologer in Europe. It shows our inherent anglocentric bias that his name is not well known (if at all) in many British and American astrological circles.

Barbault appears to be one of the pioneers in working with the long term cycles of the outer planets related to historical events. I am informed from another member here he correctly predicted the collapse of Communism in the Soviet Union and eastern Europe.

If anyone has more specifics on that prediction please post your comments here.

Barbault's reputation as well as the ideas behind his mundane work have both been brought into English many years ago via Charles Harvey, Nick Campion and Michael Baigent in particular.

It's quite funny because I'm the opposite to you both in that I'm surprised to read in this thread that he's not already well known! He was described by the AA in 2005 as a giant in astrology. Plus, he's been around since the Big Bang (almost).

On the related point that you brought up Mark, I don't think there's a 'bias' amongst native English-speakers, anymore than in any other language, or country for that matter. I think 'bias' is quite a loaded way to put it really.

There's a lot to learn in astrology and it's not surprising that people have enough on their plate getting to grips with all the publications and research in their own country and/or in their own tongue. Astrology is a very big subject and there just aren't enough hours in the day to keep abreast of everything even in the UK alone, without stepping outside into other English-speaking countries. The internet makes it both easier and harder -- it's easy to be flooded with information but little time to digest it.

I stand corrected. Although since most of his work has not been translated into english I cant imagine such knowledge was really accessible or that in depth for many.

Well its a choice of word. I wasn't implying some kind of conscious conspiracy to block out other approaches. So I accept the term 'bias' was over emotive. I do think cultures can be more or less parochial in focus than others. Lack of language skills and ignorance of foreign affairs can reinforce this. Rather than step on any more toes I will leave it at that.

In regards the astrological community though I do think the internet and Conferences do a lot to break down such barriers. That is well reflected in the international background of our contributers here.

I agree we all by necesity have to adopt some degree selectivity with the mass of information out there. It depends on our available free time, our commitments and our commitment. I confess I am much more interested in what a traditional astrologer like Benjamin Dykes or say Margherita Fiorello is up to than a lot of modern astrologers in the UK. Its the same selectivity with my interest in mundane astrology and astrological history for me as I am not a professional and dont need to earn a living through astrology. I identity with the information overload you describe though. I have a large number of articles and books I have downloaded plus articles and books in my library I have in my ever expanding 'to do list'.

hi handn - i read mundane astrology by baigent, campion and harvey too.. the book came out in 1984, so barbaults name has been out and about for a while... good book btw - mundane astrology... as mark points out though, barbaults work has never been easy to access... i have only had a chance to read it very recently over the net aside from the small references to him in the mundane astro book mentioned above..

i try to deal with the info overload by having hard copy of these books, as i find i spend enough time reading on the net.. but, it costs a chunk of change to buy these astro books..
