Hello All,

Another astrologer sent me a query on how to read horaries in cases where the querent asks if a specific person is the father of their child (we must assume that they cannot do so via other means - some people may not easily get a paternity test, etc.). I have never been asked this question before by an astrologer or querent (nor have I ever been in this predicament), so I thought I would get others' points of view. How would you look for a connection/lack thereof between the quesited and the child?

I logically assumed to use the 7th house for the quesited and see if he is connected to the 5th house or its ruler. If he's not, I would think to look at any other planet that is connect and they will likely describe the father. I thought you could also possibly look at the 4th house from the 5th and see if it is also the 7th house ruler or in the 7th house.

This is more so dealing with questions on marriage - do others think it works for ex-boyfriend queries? I don't have an example chart, but others are certainly free to share. Thanks!

As I said, I have not answered a question like this and was responding to another astrologer's question about these types of horaries (not in reading the chart for them - they never gave me the chart). If anyone else has a chart that they can share, feel free to. I am not sure how you can get a proper outcome from such questions, though, unless you do get a paternity test (or maybe wait for the child to show characteristics of the father, possibly).

As a beginner, I answered a question from a querent who asked if a specific person was his father (his mother had passed away and never gave him closure). He heard rumors about the man being his father and wanted to see if he was. It was slightly similar, I suppose.

My boyfriend just told me he might be the father of his exes child. She is supposedly 5 or 6 months pregnant and was separated from her bf at the time and slept with my bf (we weren't together at the time). He said he used protection, but she says she's sure it's his. It's too late for an abortion and he and I are both against it anyway. If it's his, it is probably the end for me and him... he will do right by her, recognize the child and raise him or her with his ex. He intends to move in with her in the last trimester to help her out. I don't know if he will marry her or not, but they're bound together if the child is his... All our plans to have a family gone down the drain in just a few moments... All my happiness, vanished. All my hopes... I thought he was the one... I thought me and him will have a family... I thought I will be the mother of his kidz... I'm devastated by the news, to say the least.

Thanks, Talia - it looks like the result was that it was his child, based on a paternity test. I feel very bad for the querent, but it sounds like he was a bad influence for her anyway. The choice relating to the child seems so clear with Venus in Scorpio in the 12th conjunct his significator and disposited by a malefic Mars in the 8th. I would think Venus is the baby or the ex at least (the circumstances around the issue fit well with such an afflicted Venus anyway).

I answered this question on the astro.com forums.

I used Lord 7 as the boyfriend and his turned 5th for the baby.

As you can see in this chart they appear to be about to apply in the same degrees as we were expecting the baby to be born.

However, an ill dignified Venus prohibits the aspect. I said the baby was his but I wasn't sure how Venus, how I took to be the woman the bf is currently with (ie the mother), was going to prevent him access to the baby. It didn't make sense to me.

The end result was that she apparently got an abortion. Note how Venus is also the baby's turned 8th house and that benefics lacking in dignity behave in a more malefic manner.

See I would have taken Venus as the baby, Mercury as the man. Applying conjunction.....his baby. Abortion would be Mars interfering from the 8th which perfects with Venus before Mercury can if I'm not mistaken.

Why is venus the baby?

Because it rules the fifth?
If so then it's only because of the natural rulership of the fifth, because the querent is not related to the baby whatsoever.
For background the querent is a woman who was dating a man, that man's ex is pregnant, potentially with his child.

So Mercury is the man, his potential child would be the fifth from the 7th, and we get Mars. Mercury and mars appear to perfect an aspect in 3 degrees which matches the 3 months time of the due date. However venus prohibits this aspect. Venus naturally rules women and is ill dignified and from what the querent was saying of this woman an ill dignified planet would make sense. However Venus also rules the 8th from the turned 5th etc.

Either way seems to give a reliable outcome - using the 5th ruler or the 11th, however, the 5th ruler makes more sense to me because Venus would more naturally describe a baby than Mars. Mars would seem to represent abortions and loss, separation, pain, etc., especially coming from the radical 8th, much more suitably than Venus even if she is ill dignified.

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to articulate this properly.
Using the turned 5th doesn't make sense to me. His 5th represents his own children, it's assumed they are his own just by using that house. The question is about another's baby and whether it's his.
