Forum Difficulties? 1 by Tom The Forum seems to have been down for a day or so. It still loads very slowly or it does for me and I have not been getting e-mail telling me when a thread I've been following has a new post. Nor have I been notified of anything going on. So I don't know if this is my end or if it is a problem with the Forum. If anyone has any insight let me know. If this problem has been the same for everyone, I'm sure it will be fixed quickly. 2 by Astraea The forum has loaded ultra-slowly for me for a couple of weeks, and two days ago it loaded with only the message that the board was unavailable. I figured it might have been a server issue...but today I tried to search for threads on reception and got a message that nothing matched my request! I then tried to search for other topics, with the same result. So I think the database must have been compromised somehow. Quote Wed Feb 01, 2012 10:51 pm
by Tom I note a possible improvement. I received the e-mail message that my post was answered, but it still loaded a bit slow. Progress. Quote Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:15 pm
by Astraea Tom, have you tried doing a search? As an experiment, just now I did a search on Lilly and got a message that no threads on the entire forum match my request! Quote Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:46 pm
by Tom I tried Ibn Ezra, and had zero results. Then I tried Christian Astrology, and had zero results. I then tried 'football," and the only thing that came up was a post from today, Feb 1, 2012. Perhaps that's as far back as it goes. I haven't heard a word from Deb or any moderators. Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:05 am
by Astraea Very strange. Thanks for corroborating my search experience - maybe the whole database has been lost, sure hope not! Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:11 am
by epurdue It's definitely slower, and it's been up and down. It was down all day yesterday, and just now it was down for about 10 minutes for me. Did we anger some astrologer? Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:18 am
by handn Hello I haven't had any problems with slowness (except my own, naturally!) but about 10 days or so ago the forum was not able to be accessed by me and I just put it down to the glitches in the internet that happen from time to time. After that I thought nothing more of it. Then last night I kept getting the same message as Astraea about the board being unavailable. I've tried searches and I'm getting the same results as you are (Lilly has been vanished! Never mind his stolen fish, someone's stolen Lilly himself! Where's habeas corpus when you need it!), however on clicking back through pages of threads it looks like they're all still intact back to 2003 etc. I was worried for a moment that we were going to have to re-type all our messages for the past few years :-) Regards handn Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:32 am
by amandaW Same for me. Loading very slow. But it went down just as I was submitting a short post in answer to Andrew and now I can't get away from the feeling that it must have been something I did ! Though as far a I know I did nothing unusual. "The universe is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper" Eden Phillpotts Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:51 am
by Deb It wasn't anything that any user did and hopefully these problems will be resolved now. There were some recent problems and it was necessary to move the site, including the forum, onto a new server, but unfortunately I didn't get notification about this until the work was underway because I was travelling back from Australia. By the time I realised what was happening the forum was closed (to prevent users uploading posts which would be lost), so I wasn't able to give advance notice. I gather there are one or two minor tasks to be completed and that might cause a little slowness but the forum should be fully functional now with no more major disruptions. Sorry that I couldn't give a warning in advance! Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 1:22 pm
by Astraea Thanks, Deb. All's well that ends well! It's wonderful to have the forum up and running (even with a few stumbles) again. Quote Thu Feb 02, 2012 3:15 pm
by Astraea Maybe the server switch is still a work in progress, but if not I'm finding a few issues that might want looking into. The search function on the forum is still not working for me, yielding no results older than a couple of days ago; and clicking on pdfs and flipbook-format articles on the main Skyscript site brings up a Page Not Found screen. So it appears that not everything made it over to the new server...but my apologies if this heads-up is premature! Quote Fri Feb 03, 2012 3:35 pm
