The use of Venus does demonstrate how the influence of progressed planets unfolds more slowly over time than, say, a transit might. 41 by Tom If the Lord of the Geniture (LoG) shows us anything, it shows our best potential. It is the strongest planet in the chart that can act (Lilly). If we have one particularly strong planet in our chart, that is where our greatest strengths lie, and what we can best put to use for our own benefit. John Frawley used a phrase I like that deserves more examination that its ever received (from memory): The Lord of the Geniture shows us the life we want rather than the life were given which is shown by the lord of the ASC." That's not an exact quote but the idea is correctly explained. The Lord of the ASC can be weak or strong, well placed or poorly placed and it can even be the LoG. But the ruler of the ASC, if Frawley is right, is where we go on autopilot. This may be very good if it is well placed and the rest of the chart agrees. But it may be anything else,too form poor to middling. The LoG requires work. If it shows some kind of talent for creativity and we think we have no creative talent, we will have to work at it to develop it. The chart says the potential is there. Working at it indicates we will fail now and again. That is just the human experience, but if the words "promise of the chart" mean anything, eventually we will succeed to a greater or lesser extent. The beauty of using the Log is that it puts into practice what we all say by rote, that we can overcome the chart with free will. Could there be two lords? Traditional LoG calculation ignores the night/day issue but it was very important in ancient astrology. Were you born during the day or night? If you are a night birth that Moon in Cancer would be highly influential and would be a very strong candidate as LoG. If you mean a dominant planet, this would be Jupiter, which rules my Sagittarius stellium, is in his term, conjunct MC (in 9th WS) and Lot of Spirit. As Jupiter rules my Sun and the Lot of Spirit is in Jupiter's term and near him, I can safely say that Jupiter describes my soul perfectly. Amor ordinem nescit. Ever in love, and dote on all they see. Mercurialists are solitary, much in contemplation, subtle, poets, philosophers, and musing most part about such matters. If the Moon have ahand, they are all for peregrinations, sea voyages, much affected with travels, to discourse, read, meditate of such things; wandering in their thoughts, diverse, much delighting in waters, to fish, fowl, &c. He also points out, that certain mental states according to the lord of the geniture, will be accentuated when: The time of this melancholy is, when the significators of any geniture are directed according to art, as the hor: moon, hylech, &c. to the hostile beams or terms of Saturn and Mars especially, or any fixed star of their nature, or if Saturn by his revolution or transitus, shall offend any of those radical promissors in the geniture.
