Considerations before judgement? 1 by Cecilia I have recently cast a horary chart asking if a certain primary school would be a good choice for my daughter. However I have noticed the following: - There is no agreement between the planetary hour (mercury) and the ruler of the ascendent; - Moon is Void of Course; - An important significator (the significator of the school -Venus) is conjunct SN; - Ruler of the 7th is retrograde. It just seems to me there are so many impediments for a good judgment. Does it mean that the school is bad (Venus conj SN), and there will be no outcome (Moon VOC), i.e. we will never apply to that school? Or should I just forget about this chart and ask the question again at a later date. Please find the chart below. What are your thoughts? Quote Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:25 am
by Mark Hello Cecilia, Just to pick up your VOC Moon point using Lilly's approach the Moon is not VOC here. The Moon is separating from a trine to Mercury but applying within orb to a square of Mars (Lord 4+9) across the sign boundary. Here is a collection of traditional quotations on the subject of the Void of Course Moon produced by our host here Deborah Houlding: http://www.skyscript.co.uk/voc.html As you will see traditional sources frequently refer to the Moon being being VOC when it does not apply to another planet before leaving sign. On this definition the Moon is only VOC if it fails to apply to another planet before leaving a sign. It doesn't need to perfect an aspect before leaving the sign. Incidentally, the notion that 'nothing happens' with a VOC Moon is really a modern interpretation. While this can be the result it has a wider unfortunate connotation: ''A planet is Void of Course, when he is separated from a planet, nor doth forthwith, during his being in that sign, apply to any other: This is most usually in the Moon; In judgements do you carefully observe whether she be Void of Course yea or no; you shall seldom see a business go handsomely forward when she is so.'' 3 by Cecilia Thanks Mark, that is very helpful. I have come across so many conflicting definitions and interpretations on VOC planets - but I want to learn from reliable sources. On the overall the chart seems valid because it somehow describes the situation: - my daughter is a Saggitarius, which is the sign on the cusp of the 5th house: - the school is a well-respected single-sex elementary school for girls, well represented here by Venus (girls) in Gemini in the 10th. Now, the school (Venus) is exactly in the Nodes' Degree. Olivia Barclay calls the degree of the Moon's Nodes the "Degree of Fatality" and says that any planet in this degree will be unfortunate in a horary or electional chart. Is this a sign that the school is a No-No? Quote Wed Apr 11, 2012 1:22 pm
by Mark Hello Cecilia, Your chart seems to have gone. Could you stick up the question and data up please? Thanks Mark As thou conversest with the heavens, so instruct and inform thy minde according to the image of Divinity William Lilly Quote Wed Apr 11, 2012 4:44 pm

by Mark Hi Cecilia, I have loaded up your chart again. I cant remember what house system you had so I have defaulted to Regiomontanus houses. Mark As thou conversest with the heavens, so instruct and inform thy minde according to the image of Divinity William Lilly Quote Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:23 pm
by Cecilia Thanks for that, Mark. Yes I used Regiomontanus. Any other thoughts? Quote Fri Apr 13, 2012 7:51 am
by Nina Gryphon Hi Cecilia, I am not thrilled with the fact that Jupiter is in aversion to its own house. It indicates that your daughter is not in a good situation here, perhaps not able to get the best out of the school. The Sun, your significator does aspect the 5th house cusp, suggesting that you are on the right track in terms of finding a school. Further, we do see Venus with the South Node, so there is something about the school that is lacking. With Saturn in the school's house, I would avoid it. There may be some issue with the building, location, or the healthfulness of the environment. There are too many potential negatives here to recommend the school. Can you give more background about the situation? It might help get more forum responses. Kind regards, Nina Nina Gryphon ninagryphon.com Your questions answered. Quote Fri Apr 13, 2012 1:19 pm
by Cecilia Thanks Nina, everything you said makes sense. A bit more information abouth the background of the question: I have a 3- y.o. daughter and she will be starting school next year. We are undecided between 2 primary schools in our area which we visited recently. We liked them both although they are quite different. The school the question relates to is a private girls school. The premises seem to be very good (heated swimming pool, tennis court etc) and teaching is of a high standard. However is a bit too far from where we live. Also the pupils seem to come from a more upper-class background and we were wondering if she would fit. It also seemed a bit "cold". The other school is cheaper, smaller and has worse reviews. However it's charming and closer to where we live. We have been thinking about the schools for about 2 months and I now decided to cast a horary. It doesn't look like this school is as good as it seems, or maybe my daughter just wouldn't feel very well there? Quote Fri Apr 13, 2012 4:48 pm
by Nina Gryphon I guess an upper-class school would be well symbolized by Saturn (cold) in exaltation. Jupiter and Saturn don't behold each other, and are antithetical in nature (your daughter would benefit from a more expansive, open environment) so perhaps best to try the other place? As I understand from my horarys one Can Not ask the same query twice but rather a new query/question. With that VOC Moon, 28 Scorpio, the question is Moot, I don't see anything happening in this particular horary for her(daughter), the horary's 5th house, in this derived 3rd house matter.
