Significator combust? 1 by vegas1 Hi All, A big thank to all who have helped with my questions. I have another and would appreciate all comments. Please see the chart at http://www.astro.com Ascendant is 3aqu12, ruled by Saturn, at 0leo28 Partnership question, 7th house of Leo, ruled by the Sun at 27can31 Saturn is within 3 degrees of the Sun, but not in the same sign. Is Saturn combust or not? I reread some lessons based on Lilly's and they say that a planet is combust if it is within 3-8 degrees of the Sun AND in the same sign. Other lessons omit the "same sign" condition. It's interesting also that for this chart, the Sun is also the significator for the partner, and there is an applying conjunction. According to Lilly, this can bring about perfection (" Master B. His Houses" horary), I guess the power is in the hands of the Sun person, and the "combust person" will feel he had "a hard bargain". BTW, the Moon is at 8cap39 and in the 12th house, detriment. I think it means there are unknown or hidden matters. This is reinforced by Neptune in the 1st house, I take that it means I am not aware of all the facts. Plus the first aspect for the Moon coming up is a sextile to Uranus, unexpected and sudden changes? In any case, with Saturn in it's terms and occupying 0 degree Leo of Regulus for success and glory, with the conjunction, I judge that answer to the question is Yes. We'll see. Combustion has been one of those debates that is raised on this forum from time to time and one in which a definitive answer is unlikely. I personally haven't made up my mind because I can see both sides of the argument and they each make sense to me. I think the answer usually lies in each individual chart. However, most horary astrologers, particularly those who follow Lilly closely, would not consider Saturn combust at this stage and consider sign boundaries important. It is certainly worth noting though that as soon as the Sun moves into Leo, Saturn becomes combust. This might mean that the querent gets more than she bargained for and becomes overpowered by the quesited. In any case, with Saturn in it's terms and occupying 0 degree Leo of Regulus for success and glory, with the conjunction, I judge that answer to the question is Yes. We'll see. Most traditional astrologers would probably not consider the Sun and Saturn conjunct because they are in different signs (as well as different houses). Lilly sometimes noted out of sign aspects but once the Sun moves into Leo and becomes conjunct, it also becomes combust, potentially negating the strength of a conjunction. I'm not sure what you mean by your comment on Saturn and Regulus. Regulus is currently at a very late degree of Leo, about 29deg54' I believe. Quote Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:36 pm
3 by vegas1 Thanks Sue for pointing out my error, it must be the case of Saturn in the 7th. I also reread some notes about conjunction before changing sign, thanks for pointing that out also. Quote Fri Jul 22, 2005 12:14 am
significators 4 by yuzuru Hello I think most astrologer disregar combustion when the planet combusted and the sun are both main significators. See that saturn has just changed signs, simbolizing querent has changed his situation somehow. According with tradition, querent in the 7th house means he is the one chasing the relationship... but I think Frawley says something about "if the significator is in the cusp of the house, it means the person is thinking about the subject represented by the house", so it would mean she is thinking about you. Quiron is sitting on the ASC possibily meaning you have been (will be) wounded by the person, or has some kind of healer/healed play with her. Neptune can show deceit and lies as much as an idealitic or romantic nature (but this not agree with an saturn representation) Y Quote Fri Jul 22, 2005 4:29 am
5 by Sue but I think Frawley says something about "if the significator is in the cusp of the house, it means the person is thinking about the subject represented by the house", so it would mean she is thinking about you. Wouldn't it be the other way around? If the querent's significator is on the cusp of the quesited's house, then the querent is thinking of the quesited. I haven't read what John has to say about this so I might just be misunderstanding. According with tradition, querent in the 7th house means he is the one chasing the relationship... This is what I would normally think too. However, I'm not sure I understand this quote from Lilly on page 317 of CA: Contrary to all the rules of the Ancients, I have ever found, that when the Lord of the seventh hath been in the ascendant, the querent hath loved most, and when the Lord of the ascendant was in the seventh, the quesited loved best. 6 by vegas1 Thanks again for the thoughts and comments. Just to clarify, it's a business partnership and not a romantic partnership. Actually it's a high-risk high-reward business venture looking for a new people, it was introduced to me by a mutual friend. The horary question was "would this venture be good for me?" Seeing me, represented by Saturn, on the Descendant, I thought it would be a 7th house matter of partnership, rather than something for the 10th house. I interpret Neptune here as me not aware of all the facts regarding this company. The latest info I received was that the venture may be running out if money and looking for new investors (rather than an additional talents in management) Quote Fri Jul 22, 2005 5:00 pm

8 by vegas1 It turns out the business venture involves "burns", or the assessment of victims of burns, and here we are talking about Saturn being burned by the Sun. Also, if I treat this as a 10th-house question, then Mars is the significator, and gives a NO answer. Quote Thu Aug 18, 2005 11:42 pm
