For the importance of Saturn/Scorpio in USA political history, look no further than the horoscope of Prescott Bush (the grandfather) whose Saturn/Scorpio was recapitulated during Hurricane Connie (11-Aug-1955), Hurricane Diane (17-Aug-1955), and the subsequent Connecticut flood of 1955 nicknamed ?Black Friday.? Let me just say this: should we get a large hurricane this October before the election, the response of the Obama administration will be a critical factor for his election prospects. From a mundane astrology perspective, placement of Saturn in Scorpio amplified by the North Node placed in the bound of Saturn/Scorpio simply means a hurricane/flood/disaster has to be given a higher than random weight in scenario analysis. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has ordered the evacuation of low-lying areas of New York city, which could affect 375,000 people, as well as the closure of all public transport saying the hurricane is a "serious and dangerous storm". A state of emergency has been declared in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC and a coastal region of North Carolina. The affected area includes about 60 million Americans. A number of horaries have related to dire circumstances and people in distress. Saturn in the degree of the Moon's fall at the same time as being combust the Sun has been a main issue. The benefics have been in detriment and fall, and when Venus was square Jupiter people came to a dead end as a consequence of trifleness in action. Now Venus has entered her own sign, but with Mercury into Sagittarius and Jupiter in Gemini these two are in reception and form and 'opening of gates'. But looking up the term with Coley, he specifically mentions the conjunction of Saturn with the Sun as a case of opening of gates; especially if they are cojoined in watery signs, 'tis an Opening of the Gates of Heaven, and rarely pass without notable alterion of the Air. Coley actually describes the combination of various planetary opposites under similar terms, chapter 19, in his Key to Astrology. * I know here it's the mundane forum, but, since you mentioned it, any idea of the "opening of the gates" in natal? I have not seen reference to this term in any text on natal astrology (Coley is probably closest) and I do not have a specific case that comes to mind at this moment - but I believe that the occurrance of such combinations in a natal chart open specific avenues of traffic. The full Moon is scheduled for 19:51 GMT that's almost now (about an hour away). They're talking about lower Manhattan being flooded which has never happened in my lifetime and maybe not in about the last 180 years. The storm is now heading directly for NJ.
