This thread exists to highlight the predictions of two traditional astrologers who have both made a prediction on the outcome of the next US Presidential election. In both instances they have indicated that they think Mitt Romney will be successful.

I think its important to give an airing to these views and their traditional delineations as the bulk of astrologers both in the US and Internationally are predicting an Obama win.

Because neither astrologer here have a website at present there is a danger of their analysis being ignored in the event that their predictions are correct.

Since Steven Birchfield is not currently a member of Skyscript I have decided to lock this thread since he will not be able to reply to posts or comments. If you have any comments you can make them on the ongoing thread on the US Presidential Election.

Steven Birchfield is an American astrologer currently living in Norway. He has studied Medieval astrology with Robert Zoller but has also made an extensive study of hellenistic astrology. In mundane astrology Steven makes particular use of the techniques of the great Persian astrologers Abu Ma'shar and Massah'Allah.

In his delineation below Steven applies two main methods. Firstly, he looks at the inaugural or 'Ascensional' chart for Obama from 2009. Secondly he discusses the Aries and Libra ingress charts. Steven's prediction first appeared in a private astrological forum in September 2012.

Goran Koncar is a Serbian astrologer who has been studying medieval and renaissance astrology since 2005. In his delineation of the Presidential election Goran utilises two charts : the Libra ingress and the syzgy prior to the Libra ingress. Goran's prediction first appeared on October 30th.

I had thought of putting out my own delineation of the ingress charts up on Skyscript but having seen Goran?s analysis of the Libra ingress I see little point as his thinking is very similar to my own on the basic delineation of the chart. However, to his credit Goran has done a much more detailed and exhaustive delineation of the chart than I had ever contemplated doing.

Having said this I do think this chart is quite tight. Both planets have weakneses here so its a judgement call which might better lead to success. It looks a close result and with Saturn in its joy in the 12th one cannot rule out Romney undertaking legal action on any close results. If Romney loses, as looks quite possible here, I will probably have to accept that Peter Stockinger more accurately delineated the Libra ingress in assigning Mars to Obama.

US Election 2012 (Obama ? Romney)

The first thing I will look at in my considerations is not the US Ingress chart. It seems more expedient to me to look first at whether or not there is the chance that Obama will continue in his authority. The ancients had specific considerations for this question; i.e. the length of a rulers rule. It was in part based on the chart of the time of the rulers? ascension to authority and part on the Ingress chart of the year they acceded to power. The most important was the actual chart of the rulers? ascension.

In the States the newly elected president does not take office when the results of the election are final, but always on the 20th of January in the year following the election year. Obama acceded to his authority on January 20, 2009 in the Capitol, Washington D.C. That chart is as follows:

We start by examining Saturn in the ascensional chart. It was called the first ?lot? or fate of the Ruler and had signification for the condition and nature of the ruler ascending and the condition and nature of his rule. We start by looking at the Saturn?s ruler, Mercury. If it is not received (in Aquarius it is not aspected by its Lord Saturn which is in Virgo and falls in aversion) or is in a position unsuitable for it (it is running under the Suns beams and combust), this indicates his roughhandedness during his rule. Because the Sun is a malefic to Mercury (in conjunction), this is an indicator of the goodness of Obama?s condition at the beginnings of his affairs, and the badness of his effects and the corruption of his end. Since Mercury is separating from Saturn otherwise than from opposition, (from the trine) this indicates Obama?s preference for the good, his praising and honouring of it, but his lack of fulfilment of it. Mercury does not apply to Saturn before it (Mercury) goes out from its sign and indicates opposition rising against him amongst his own people (supporters) and party and the hardship from this and indicates he will likely lose his authority and position.

If Jupiter is under the rays, this indicates his love for collecting wealth. If Sun applies to it (Jupiter), in addition to collecting wealth he distributes it according to the house the application occurs. With the Sun applying to Jupiter in the 10th Obama will tax and collect wealth to distribute it in government spending.

Mars in a diurnal chart in the house of its exaltation is an indication of transitory honour and breadth of his fame, and the mediocre number of his benefits. Another indication of Obama?s weakness during his rule is the lord of the lot of rulership, the Moon, in its fall in the 7th.

If we consider the Lot of Rulership (02? Cancer 49? 19?) it is in the terms of a malefic (Mars) and itself signifies Obama?s lack of justice and use of wrong. The lord of the Lot is applying to Mercury, lord of the house of wealth, and is another indication of his collecting it during his rule.

These are the qualities of Obama?s rule? They will have signification when it comes to whether or not he will be re-elected with respect to the people.

Concerning the length of his rule we can judge as well from the ascensional chart. We are told by Abu Ma?sh?r:

? If Saturn is situated in one of the houses of the inferior planets or of the Moon, and they [inferior planet ruling the house] are aspecting it [Saturn], let the procedure be like the first one; that is, one measures from that planet which is in the cardine to the planet in the succedent to the cardine, or from the planet in the succedent to the cardine to the planet cadent from the cardine, and one gives a year to every 30 degrees according to what we have mentioned in the first case. If they do not aspect Saturn, one casts out half of the degrees between the two, and one should take a year for every 30 degrees of the <remaining> half; and let us begin the numbering from the weaker of the two in position to the stronger in position. ?

Saturn in the ascensional chart is in Virgo and the house of the inferior planet Mercury. Mercury in Aquarius does not aspect Saturn in Virgo. Therefore we are to begin counting the degrees from the weaker position (Saturn in the 5th) to the stronger position (Mercury in the angle of the 10th). Mercury?s longitude is 300,68? and Saturn?s is 171,4079?. We take 300,68 ? 171,4079 = 129,2721?. Now without Saturn?s lord aspecting it we are to take only half of those degrees between them, which is 64,63605? and give 1 year for every 30? which gives us a little over 2 years. This is definitely not two terms of the presidency. In other words this consideration does not exceed 1 term of office. It indicates the shortness of Obama?s rule. This agrees with some of the other significations we have had from the ascensional chart indicating Obama?s weakness.

Another method Abu Ma?sh?r gives us is to find the distance between Mars and its lord at the revolutions of the years in which they accede, like the procedure used for Saturn and Jupiter: each sign between the two <is> a month or a year according to its power and weakness. Now in the Ingress chart of the year Obama accedes, Mars (05? Cancer 43? 36?) is in the angle of the 7th in its triplicity and terms. Its lord is the Moon (12? Virgo 03? 18?) in the 9th. Since Mars is strong in power and position we count from Mars to the Moon giving a year to each sign (or 30?) between them. There are 66,3283? between them and therefore just a little over 2 years (again as in the previous consideration). Both of these methods give short periods of rule.

One last consideration is to look at the Lot of Rulership in the ascensional chart and if it falls in a cardine and the ruler falls in a cardine it signifies the longest possible period for the ruler. In Obama?s ascensional chart the Lot falls in a decline while its lord falls in a cardine. So again this is not indicating the full measure of years possible to rule.

My judgment based on the ascensional chart is therefore that Obama will not serve a second term and in fact will experience a sharp decline in the favour of the people.

Now I want to consider the Ingress chart for this election year.
I judge that in this chart the LOY is the Sun (on the cusp of the 4th) and the significator of the King is the Moon. I chose the Moon because the ruler of the 10th, Mercury, falls in aversion to its domicile Virgo (the MC) whiles the Moon beholds Virgo from Pisces and is the luminary of the chart. I also remember that the Moon is the ruler of the Lot of Rulership in Obama?s ascensional chart and therefore very significant that it is the ruler of the King in the Ingress chart. The first I see is that it is harmed by its opposition to Mars. This is even more significant when one realises that in the ingress chart preceding the election (Libra Ingress), Mars is ruler of the ascendant and Lord of the Ingress chart. I believe this indicates that Obama will not win the election and the people will give their support to the opposition party (Romney). In fact when I look at the Libra Ingress chart I find the Moon there (general significator of the people) joined to Saturn (ruler of the 4th) rather than the Sun (ruler and significator of the king/10th).
We will see I seem to be predicting something quite contrary to popular opinion among astrologers.

Why Romney will be the next US president

I'll be using two charts in my analysis, Libra ingress and the chart of the syzygy preceding it.
LOY in the ingress chart is a no-brainer according to all the ancient authorities ? it's Mars in the angle of the 1st, representing(very annoyed) people. The significator of the king is also not hard to find, because Masha'allah tells us we should choose between the stronger of the two candidates ? it's either the ruler of the Midheaven degree or the Sun. Well, here the Sun happens to rule the Midheaven and is aspecting it from Libra and the mundane 11th, thus qualifying for the job. Its lady, Venus is situated in the 10th sign of kingship in a royal sign which is a good descriptive detail reinforcing the Sun's signification in the chart. So if the Sun is Obama, Saturn has to be his opponent, Romney.

At the first glance, the power of the Sun in the beneficent/strong mundane 11th as opposed to Saturn's poor/weak placement in the 12th sign/mundane house in Libra seems to point toward a relatively easy victory for Obama BUT...the Moon as a general significator of the people is closely aspecting Saturn by a harmonious sextile from a royal sign ? it's an application which is received by Saturn in his triplicity/face, symbolizing Romney's acceptance of the matters comitted to him by the people; the people turn to Romney, pure and simple.

Moreover, close aspects from the luminaries are always very strengthening, especially so when harmonious ? Romney additionally gains the support of a planet from the succeedent 2nd. The Moon is in a relatively good condition because it's waxing in light and increasing in speed, while being under the earth in a day chart and in its feminine quarter.

LOY as the main representative of the people seems to favor none except his own interests being at the same time, full of long accumulated anger and resentment ? as a natural malefic, Mars is occidental, contrary to sect, in a feminine sign/quarter so very nervous and unsettled. Located on the degree of Zubenelschemali(Jupiter/Mercury nature) it may indicate anger/aggression of the people which will be expressed over legal/government/economic issues in connection with the results of the elections. Mars beholds neither Saturn nor the Sun pointing towards indifference, even a certain amount of hostility toward both candidates(which is definitely stronger toward Obama because Mars is inimical to the Sun's ruler, Venus and doesn't receive her application by square in Leo; Venus is, not surprisingly, falling from an angle) but there's perhaps more in this chart than meets the eye.

Mars' 12th part happens to land in Gemini in the terms of Saturn, trining Saturn in Mars's terms in Libra to the degree. I find this to be a pretty strong indicator in favor of Romney,as well as the fact that the Moon's 12th part is exactly on Saturn in the 12th,but there are also others. Mars is posited in Saturn's monomoiria, and the same ?fate? is shared by the Moon and its ruler, Jupiter in Gemini in the 8th! So it's actually Saturn that ?binds? the fate of the three main significators of the people in the chart, not the Sun!

If we take Scorpio as the derived 10th for Romney, Saturn's ingress in that sign might be interpreted as the arrival of the new ?king?, all the more so because Scorpio is culminating from the POF in Aquarius. North node is also there, designating success/victory for Romney but failure for Obama.

The chart of the syzygy preceding Libra ingress also shows an interesting picture.
The ruler of the ascending degree in Gemini is Mercury in Virgo, which is applied to by the Moon upon its separation from the Sun in the 4th sign/5th mundane house.

Interestingly, this transfer of light happens in Obama's 8th, which may be read as the end of his presidency. The Sun happens to rule the 4th and is thus Romney's significator, advancing toward an angle while Obama gets Saturn in the 5th sign/ cadent 6th mundane house. The Moon is translating the light from the Sun(Romney) to Mercury(the people). Mercury receives the Moon in Virgo meaning the people embrace Romney. So potentially one more indicator for Romney's victory, though probably with hardship and controversy because the Sun doesn't behold its domicile. The 12th part of Mercury shows additionaly where the interest of the people lies ? in the mundane 4th, very close to IC degree(Romney) which also happens to host benefic of the sect, Venus( in her terms) as Saturns's dispositor. So Obama is in the hands of Romney, figuratively speaking.

Jupiter is in Romney's 10th, along with the 12th part of the luminaries(very, very strengthening) but more importantly, Jupiter is the ruler of Obama's 10th in this chart, clearly indicating(again!) that his success is in the hands of the opponent.
