2 by Tom The traditional rulers of the mind are Mercury (rational mind), and the Moon (imagination). If they are both well posiitioned and connected by aspect or reception, the mind is considered to be working well. If both are exceptionally strong then you might be able to say the person is intellectually gifted. But I'd be very, very careful, especially with a horary. The nativity would be more revealing in this case, and even then the charts of famous intellects don't necssarilly sream "genius." A lot of it is what the individual does with what he or she has. I agree and that's why I asked to elaborate on this. I know of people who are intellectually extremely gifted, yet their placement of mercury are debilitated, retrograde and/or peregrine and unaspected. Actually I have been doing some research on this and I have some ideas.But they are rough at present; I need to have more data to get a more clear understanding of the operating factors to characterize extreme IQ (IQ>3 standard deviations) in astrological sense. Anyhow, there seems to be a lot of factors to consider.I hope to write on this in detail in the future when I collect enough data and arrive at consistent conclusions. 4 by Tom Since the houses show areas of life, I don't know that there is one that would indicate intellectual capability by itself. Look at this another way: suppose the question was: does this person have sufficient talent to play professional baseball? Sports are a 5th house activity, but does the ruler of the 5th indicate talent? Perhaps we'd have to look at the combination of rulers of 1 and 5. If that is valid then I'd look to 1 & 9 for intellectual ability, but I can't imagine it would be possible to pin it down to such a point that we could say, "Well this and that appear in the horary chart, so his IQ will be at or near 3 standard deviations above the norm on a Stanfod-Binet test" That might be asking too much. On the other hand, it may be possible to tease that kind of informaion out of a chart. I wouldn't know how to do it though. Tom Quote Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:55 pm
