Let's please stick to the subject and not make racist remarks. This is not the place to expand on theories about "root races" being beneath another. This is racism no matter how it is dressed up. This forum does not tolerate it. I have also removed some replies to this which are not pertinent to the subject matter.

In keeping with Paul's remarks, I intend to address only technical astrological issues here.

Varuna raises the issue as to the possible relationship between the navamsha's status as an "indicator of dharma" and its calculation according to trikonas or triplicities. He also raises the question: If divisional charts take their meaning from the number of the corresponding house (e.g. D9 = 9th house = dharma) then what are we to make of the vargas based on divisions beyond 12 (as in his example of D-16)?

I cannot answer the second question, since for practical work I do not ordinarily employ all of the 16 vargas named in the BPHS, but limit myself to the so-called "shadvargas" mentioned by Varaha Mihira, Kalyana Varma, etc.

Most of the shadvargas have correspondences in Hellenistic astrology. There are Greek versions of the drekkana, trimshamsha, and dwadashamsha. Interestingly enough, the varga which is most conspicuously absent in the Greek tradition is the navamsha.

Nevertheless, the Greek authors provide a certain rationale which has a bearing on Varuna's speculation. They say that the Ascendant is the helmsman who steers the ship of our destiny, and that the 5th and 9th houses are naturally auspicious because they trine the Ascedant.

If Hindu astrologers held a similar opinion, this would support Varuna's idea that the fact that the navamsha is based upon 1-5-9 is intimately related to its status as an indicator of dharma.

And, just to stay on topic, it would stand to reason that Ramanujan's conjunction of the Sun and Ketu in the navamsha was intimately related to his dharma.

And was mathematics his dharma? During the time that I worked with Mr. Behari, he often wrote letters to me which explained some of his ideas in greater detail, as the original work contained some passages that were difficult in English. Mr. Behari was endlessly fascinated by the fact that Ramanujan, enthralled with mathematics since his childhood, prayed to his village goddess (an aspect of Kali) to give him a gift for that art.

Clearly, she answered his prayers.

And if that isn't dharma, I don't know what is!!!

Looking at Ramanujans Dasha sequence here.

It seemed that he was since 8 years old in Mercury Dasha.
( Mercury is karaka for numbers and mathematics,
and is Atmakaraka).

He was then discovered and made famous in Ketu dasha.
Which may be interesting in context of this thread.



Discovered as said in the year when Ketu dasha started.
Ketu in 8th house was difficult for him in mental issues.

Ketu in Shravana NAK. ruled by the Moon placed in 10th house, for public attention.

(Ketu is in 10th house from Arudha lagna which may increase it's role in gaining fame in ketu dasha).

Mr. Behari always spoke to me very highly of Dane Rudhyar and remarked on numerous occasions that he had studied Rudhyar's work deeply and liked it very much. Both of them were Theosophists. Mr. Behari also spoke frequently of his studies at the original Theosophical center in Chenmai.

That explains a lot of my feeling of their similarity in wiew, although in different branches of astrology. Fascinating...
