I just heard the sad news about the death of Michael Baigent. He suffered a fatal brain haemorrhage at a Brighton hospital on Wednesday June 19th. He was 65.

Originally from New Zealand Michael was probably best known for his books The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. which he co-authored with Richard Leigh.

In astrological terms terms Baigent was author of a very accessible guide to Mesopotamian Omen astrology entitled From the Omens of Babylon: Astrology and Ancient Mesopotamia (1994) Its still very worth reading.

He also was a co-author of the book Mundane Astrology: Introduction to the Astrology of Nations and Groups (co-written with Nicholas Campion and Charles Harvey) 1984 (reissued expanded edition, 1992)

Commenting on Michael Baigent's passing Robert Bauval said: ?Michael was a kind and gentle man, and a great writer. He was the real thing, original and with fine virtues and integrity, who wrote responsibly after carefully researching his subject. He was a Renaissance Man, a Gnostic on a quest for the divine spark. I had much admiration and respect for him.?

I'm also shocked and saddened to read this. I didn't know him well but corresponded with him on a number of occasions, and he was always very friendly and obliging. He bought up the stock of Primum Mobile by Placidus de Titus to keep the book available to astrologers (it was going to be pulped otherwise). He was pretty unique and very gifted man.
