13 by Mark I have tried this on a few Cancer rising people with zero success. Cannot comment on Capricorn rising though. Some of Ibn Ezra's ideas do seem a tad quirky. I note he really seems to really have it in for the sign Aquarius. In his Book of Reasons for example he informs us that this is the true sign of the Devil rather than Capricorn. I suppose if Sarah Palin ever gets elected to office we will find out if thats true ... Quote Mon Sep 29, 2008 12:10 pm

Cancer & Capricorn rising 15 by Saturngirl Hi Tom, I noticed your post whilst reviewing back pages of the trad forum& find it profound. I have Capricorn on my Asc.( I use Placidus house system for Nativities),Mars is Lord of the 3rd & is placed in the 7th in the sign of Leo. My brother is a sun sign Leo & we have always been in conflict & aren't close! So yes,in my case, sadly, this is true. Wishes SG Enjoy what you learn,as it keeps the mind youthful!! 16 by dragonqueen This is true.My sister has Cancer rising and I cant even communicate with her. She is critical(virgo Sun,Mars,Venus and Pluto in 3rd) and her voice annoys me. Interesting that I have Leo in 3rd in WSH but her AC degree is in my 3rd in Placidus opposite my Sun,venus,Mars. Leo is opposite aquarius planets,so im not sure it is all down to Cancer. She has the Moon in 12th in Gemini Quote Sun Dec 01, 2013 12:01 pm
17 by hervaro Scorpio rising here... I 've often wondered about such combinations of houses. Venus, Lady of my 12th and 7th (Placidian and WSH) is in her exile in the 1st, and while in the past I 've had some partners that (at least in my view/experience ) were inimical or devastating to me, my now-for-13-yrs husband has manifested as the best that ever happened to me... He has a way of showing me where I "get off the road" so that I can digest it, and take corrective action. Not on a very different note, he learns me how to "let go of things". Seems like a better manifestation of house 12? Since we 're together though, I 've been "maltreated" a few times by whom I then would have called "my physician", in such a way that the one(s) who should have helped me in health-situations, actually made things worse, while I (then) absotely trusted them! So there seems to have been a shift in characters with time... Herman http://www.hervaro.be Quote Sun Dec 01, 2013 6:21 pm
18 by Yukionna Cancer rising and no problems with my only (older) brother. We were very close when we were young, although I did throw some scissors at him once and smashed his skull with a pipe, he still wears the scars from that. Oh well, kids will be kids... Like Deborah, I have Sun ruling 3 in Alcabitius, so maybe the sibling-problem does really only apply when having Mercury as ruler 3 both in WS and quadrant system. Quote Tue Dec 03, 2013 7:26 am

20 by Larxene Marius, I do find your interpretation to have merit (i.e. regarding the nature of the signs) and to be intriguing. I would add something. When reading Tom's initial post, I had a vague intuition that Mercury and Jupiter represent 'brothers'. I took out my copy of The Anthology by Vettius Valens (Schmidt's translation) and here is what I've found: "The star of Zeus is significant for...fidelities, inheritances, brotherhood, community, benefaction..." "The star of Hermes is significant for...disputation, speech, having brothers, interpretation, the herald's office..." So it seems that both stars have some kind of sympathy with the house of brothers. Also, the 3rd and 12th houses are in a square aspect. Notice, that Mercury also signifies disputes, quarrels, debates etc... which increases his sympathy with the 12th house. For that, I am inclined to agree that this testimony is especially salient when Mercury is the lord of these two houses and is in bad condition, as you said. Interested in Hellenistic astrology? 22 by Larxene Helios gives us brothers? I have not heard of that. However, I have read some delineations from Firmicus Maternus which relates Helios to brothers and sisters when it is in the first house. All planets may have some effect on one's relationship with siblings, but for some planets isn't this only true when they are located in houses that deals with siblings, or are in some relevant aspect to it? I would say, based on what I have read, that Hermes is a natural significator for brothers, just as the Sun and Moon are natural significators for father and mother respectively. We can use Hermes to delineate brothers regardless of house and sign, just like we can use Sun and Moon to delineate father and mother, irrespective of house and sign. However we cannot do the same for the other planets (though Zeus might be used...I am not sure about the exact meaning of 'brotherhood', and the Moon is usable as well). This was what I meant when I say that Hermes has some sympathy with the house of brothers, as it strengthens the testimony due to naturally being the significator of brothers. 24 by aglaya Hi, all. I went through the charts with Cancer on the Ascendant that i have and, even if I apply the whole house system, I can't say that my examples can confirm this. There is one chart, of a my distant cousin who sued every single person i his family over a piece of useless land but, then again, his whole family is engaged in the same fight and most of them (at least to my knowing) don't have Cancer rising. But, as you say, Tom, the logic itself is well grounded and intriguing - we can't expect it to be 100% correct - that would mean that Astrology is no more complex than math for 1st graders. However, I can't help but to wonder if he actually mentions the influence of the 7th house onto such matters anywhere in the book? Whilst the 12th suggests mean attacks, unequal fights and attackers who hide behind the curtain, the 7th turns the attackers into open enemies. Having said this - I have quite a few charts of people who have difficulties communicating with their family who's 7th ruler went either into the 12th or the 4th. In some cases, L7 is attacking their Ascendant ruler from there clearly suggesting that the person is most likely to have open or secret enemies among his relatives. In a few cases, the symbolism of the house in which the L7 is placed is also very descriptive of the circumstances - whilst the person receiving this influence from the 12th says that his relative sued him one day with no prior notice, the persons with the same influence coming from the 7th (ex. L7 casting a square onto L1 from the 4th) would usually describe troubles with their family members as "open", direct and often expected. No under-doing, just plain fights. Cheers, aglaya Quote Tue Jan 28, 2014 6:38 pm
