querent and question are same?

Just a quick question: How do you explain when the significators are the same? For example: A question about work; look to the ruler of asc and ruler of 10. Both are Mercury? A planet can not be in a aspect with itself? Would this be very positive..considered a conjunction?

Obviously they cannot be used as the same thing. Here are answers to a couple of scenarios that might be encountered

1) If the querent is not intregal to the question, ignore the significator for the querent. Example: Will my father die from his illness? Gemini rising Virgo on the 4th. Since the question is about the father use Mercury for the father.

2) Use a planet in one of the houses. Will I get the Job? Pisces rising Sagittarius on the 10th both Jupiter ruled. If there is a planet in the 10th, that might rule the job The receptions will usually tell the story. If there is no planet in either house, check to see if the almutem is different than the sign ruler for one of the houses. IN the above example Venus can be almutem of Pisces and could be used to signify the job.

3) Use common sense: Will my wife find out about my girlfriend? Both can't be the 7th house ruler. Usually the lawful spouse will get the 7th, but consider using Saturn for the spouse as she is the one who is spoiling all the fun.

There are probably other ways to handle this problem and I hope other will provide some insight.

My thoughts (and what I would do in such cases):-

In the event that I face a chart which gives me only one ruler for both houses (querent and quesited):-

1) I would ignore the one which is not important and describe the event
as is shown by the chart, e.g. condition of the ruler of the quesited
tells me about the quesited (ignoring the querent).
2) If querent is important to the outcome of the horary question,
I take the planet as ruler of the quesited and moon as ruler of the
querent (remember moon always a co-ruler of the querent).
3) Look also to the planets in the first house and quesited house. They
can be used as co-rulers. Again choose wisely as which would
rule the querent and quesited (if you have more than one planet
in one house).
4) Don't forget Almuten of the houses. They may differ from the rulers.
5) Still only one planet ruling both? Then, (in desperation) you could
use exalted ruler or triplicity rulers esp. if they have certain affinities
with the matters quesited.

Remember that there are many different types of significators:-

1) Universal significators, e.g. Sun = men, Moon = women, etc.
2) Accidental significators: almuten of houses, rulers of houses (sign rulers, exalted rulers, triplicity rulers, etc.) and planets in houses.

Morinus would give priorities to planets in houses (but again he was not doing horary!!!).

Example:-

Would I (Asc) get the promotion (MC)?

Pisces rising with Sagittarius in the MC. Both ruled by Jupiter. Assuming that there are no planets in both first and 10th houses, put moon as ruler of querent and put Jupiter as ruler of promotion. This is logical as Moon = co-ruler of querent and Jupiter is very natural for promotion/expansion.

Would she buy my house at the stipulated price?

Virgo rising with Gemini MC, Pisces Dsc and Sag IC.
Assume that no planets are in these houses (1, 4, 7, 10)

Mercury rules both me and price.
Jupiter rules both she and my house.

I would take Mercury = price (quite natural as something that we negotiate/communicate/exchange and Mercury = commerce).
So, I have to take Moon (co-ruler of querent) as me.

I would vote Jupiter as ruler of the house and put Venus as ruler of her (exalted ruler of Dsc and quite natural as a lady - more so if Venus happens to be the Almuten of 7th!)

So, all in all its concept + experience + logic + intuition = success!!! (at least we hope so!).

Yes! Thanks... these are awsome, clear and detailed. Any views on what would happen in the case that both were important to the question.

For example: I just posted a legal matter. The question is the outcome of the event. Mars represents both H10 (The judge) and H3 (The written evidence)

From your answers I am gathering 2 things. House 10 would be more important to the outcome so focus on Mars as the judge. Mars also more reflects the "enemy" the "judge" and the contents of H3 could be examined for the evidence... right:) yes, yes, I think I get it:) Super thanks!
