Feasible question? 1 by Jack Sweeney Howdy all Some time ago I asked a question of which I expected a vague answer: Which country/city should I move to? Well, I got gemini setting, with Mercury there. Don`t recall other details but I immediately thought London,or some other Gemini places. But judging from Deb Houlding`s link below,if IC indicates north, should I assume Gemini setting with ascendant ruler J?piter in Leo in 9th could indicate West, like the USA? As I said,I`m not sure if it was correctly formulated http://www.skyscript.co.uk/house_answers.html Thanks in advance Quote Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:05 pm
2 by aglaya Hi, Jack! Well, I got gemini setting, with Mercury there. Don`t recall other details but I immediately thought London,or some other Gemini places. What exactly do you mean by "Gemini setting"? The 4th? Surely, the symbolism of the houses and angles should also be taken seriously. For what it's worth, sometimes the chart will suggest non-movement (ie advise the Querent against leaving his current place of residence) by accentuating the 1st house (home, the initial point, where we are born, where we already are) but, at the same time, the sign on the Ascendant will not be the same as the one that rules his current country. We can't always expect perfect congruence because the sign ins't necessarily describing the Querent current homeland- sometimes, it is descriptive of his surroundings and neighbourhood. Having said that, whilst L1 inside the 9th does, indeed, indicate Sout-west, when the natural symbolism of the house is taken into consideration, it also indicates very distant countries and foreign travel (the 9th). In addition, a fixed sign (leo) could be suggesting some sort of permanency (leaving for good) and finally, the combination of the planet and the sign os telling you more about the most immediate surroundings. Personally, if I'd have to choose between a town/country ruled by Leo and a place described by these two planets, I'd probably go for the second option- a Leo ruled residence, in my head, has to be a place much warmer than London. Finally, it is always god to check your natal chart and examine the shape of each quadrant. Traditional authorities teach us to avoid the quadrants occupied by malefics and focus onto those in which the benefics reside. Now, although this is something that can't always be used since, in many cases, both natures are present in a single quadrant (or house), it is a good place to start from. Cheers, aglaya Thanks Aglaya Setting is 7th house. But according to Deb 7th may just be going abroad, moving, not necessarily going West. With Mercury in Gemini (my Ascendant) I thought London,or maybe Nuremberg,USA,not sure. Regarding natal chart my malefics are dignified or exalted,so I*m not sure I should avoid the directions shown by their quadrants Quote Sun Nov 30, 2014 5:50 pm
4 by Paul Jack I'm not sure this is the best way to approach this kind of horary. It would be better/easier to at least short list the places you would like to move down to two or three locations, or if there is one you have in mind in particular then to ask about that particular location. Otherwise I can't see how a horary could reasonably pinpoint down to an exact place any particular city. Otherwise you may want to look into things like astrocartography and so on to see if that appeals to you. You can certainly use the chart to give general directions of course, but really for something as big/important as moving home and moving to a new city, I think it would be better to do some shortlisting first. That`s what I thought, unless the charts points to directions, like querent`s ruler in North quadrant etc thanks Quote Mon Dec 01, 2014 12:13 pm
6 by aglaya I didn't have enough time to reply yesterday and, in the meantime, Paul has mentioned everything I thought of mentioning (plagiarism of thoughts!? ). Whilst the 1st/7th axis describes the dynamics of the activity that you're currently thinking about (staying vs. moving away), in a way, both cusps are somewhat personalised. The first represents you and your initial point. The opposite one describes your destination. Only, in this particular case, you are yet to choose the acceptable place to move to. For this reason, I think that there are at least two other methods that might be more useful than the approach used for the first question. Assigning a cusp to an imaginary place could lead to misleading answers. Cheers, aglaya Quote Mon Dec 01, 2014 5:32 pm

Right but this is not a city/location that is best to live in - but rather a direction, or cities/places of the nature of a sign etc. As far as I understand it, Jack was looking for something more specific than this. But as I said in my reply, you can certainly give general directions. However if Jack at least narrowed it down to a couple of cities or asked generally about whether it's a good idea to move or not, then, at least in my opinion, there is more that could be done.
