Now that you mention it, yes, this can be a miscarriage chart. (I did not want to say it because I did not want to alarm you.) As you pointed out, Mercury is radical L8, so the aspect could mean literally "the death of the baby". So yes, the picture in the chart *could* show that there was conception but it will not survive.

BUT! Big BUT! That was not the question asked. The question was "Am I pregnant?" So that is what the astrologer answers.

If, however, you had the baby's survival as your primary concern when asking the question we could answer about a miscarriage. So you have to be very clear about what you were asking. If the question was not about a miscarriage, or if you are now uncertain if you thought about a miscarriage when casting the chart, then Mercury could be anything. In that case we cannot assert this is a miscarriage chart.

In a client situation I would drill the client to help me understand the question clearly. Here we are unfolding the chart and the situation surrounding the question as we discuss.
Polina wrote: In other words, if the chart shows pregnancy but then you have an opposition (or square or applying aspect) from any "malefic" or bad or negative planet (ie one representing death 8H or ill health 6H) then wouldn't that (couldn't that) necessarily "undo" the fact that the pregnancy occured, ie the chart shows "yes there was conception but look what happens next"?
Yes. *If* this is a miscarriage chart that is exactly how such a thing is shown in horary.
Polina wrote:I tend to think of positive aspects as good, negative as bad.
In my opinion, the notion of positive aspects and negative aspects is biased and misunderstood by many astrologers.

*Generally speaking*, trines are easy, smooth. Sextiles less smooth. Squares involve aggravation, difficulty or delays. Oppositions cause regret. Oppositions and conjunctions are strong/intense.

The goodness or badness of an aspect depend on two things: receptions and the CONTEXT.

If death is indicated by a trine or an opposition it makes no difference, you die anyway. In death charts receptions are usually irrelevant. Any aspect with L6 or L12 is unpleasant. A trine with L6 makes you sick easily! A conjunction with L12 takes one back to one's addiction easily! What's good about that? If you get a job by trine it will be easy to get the job. If you enter a relationship by an opposition you will regret that you entered it. If you get to the top of Mount Everest by an opposition you will get there, but you may not be able to get back! If you graduate from school by a square it means that you will graduate with difficulty, but you can still graduate.

Events occur if the receptions support the aspects otherwise even a trine or a conjunction will not work. If one person dislikes the other and then connect by conjunction they will not come or stay together. That is common sense and reality, isn't it? And horary is a snapshot of reality! So we look at the aspect along with receptions. There is no absolute good or bad aspect. With some exceptions the outcome of aspects depend on receptions; and always depend on the context.
Polina wrote:"how could a trine from [a planet in Cancer] be bad" since Cancer represents motherhood and fertility...and this is where I get blinded by my limitations.
Context! And receptions. If the reception is bad the trine can show "someting bad happening easily". I is rare in practical horary that Cancer would mean motherhood and fertility. The primary concern in horary is house rulers. So if The cusp of a relevant house falls in Cancer then the Moon is a sinificator. If any significator is in Cancer we look at the receptions and aspects with that planet, etc. If L6 is in Cancer and you aspect it you will get sick regardless of the type of aspect or receptions.

There are many possible contexts and combinations?
Polina wrote:Example: if Mars were applying to an opposition within orb of Venus (ruling the child's 8H) would that not show death in X time units? Or not necessarily?
Unless timing is part of the question is is not certain that the timing will appear in a chart. In the majority of the cases it does not appear in a chart if not part of the question.

Hi Felipe,

Well my view on it is a tad different, to me the question "am i pregnant" (ie will i end up pregnant this cycle before it is over) includes "will i conceive and carry to term a healthy child" because to me that is sort of the generally understood desire. I wont say "anyone can get pregnant" but a positive pregnancy test doesnt' mean much if you miscarry or if the child dies during birth etc. So to me asking "am I pregnant?" isnt so much "will a pregnancy test be positive"... it is -- "will the test be positive, the baby stay in the womb, will the mother carry to term, and will the baby and mother survive delivery". You know, the whole nine yards. I say that because I wasn't just thinking short term -- to me that's all included in the same question and obviously if there is either a risk of loss OR something wrong with the fetus, I would want to know sooner rather than later (otherwise I could wait it out and just use blood tests to confirm everything).

So I can't say the baby's survival was primary in mind when I asked, ie, I didnt ask "will the baby survive" bc i wasn't sure if there WAS a baby... but yes, since i've had losses, that's part of the expectation "did it work" means -- will it HOLD and be healthy.

In any event it sounds like there is at minimum really severe affliction here and maximum a loss... It's not alarming, it is better to know because sometimes losses can be prevented. Forewarned is forearmed in some cases. The more info you have the better equipped you are to deal with it...

What I suppose I donnt understand is why wouldnt any and all information about the pregnancy/baby (or other topic of a horary question) be provided in the answer? For example (theoretically) : if I was having surgery and I wanted to know if i will survive the surgery and not die, and the horary showed I would live, that is great. But if I were the astrologer and I noticed the horary shows complications from the recovery down the road, to where the person is hospitalised again or has another severe health problem, then, since the overall question is about the person's health, the best answer to me would be the most complete one. i.e. something like "so yes you will survive the surgery...and recovery will go fine, but in X units time you are going to have lung issues because....." or whatever. Does that make sense?

I am pressed for time as working but will reply more to your comments this week. THANK YOU so much for the details because it really helps understand the charts!! hats off to you :-)

Hi Polina,

Yes, I understand that there was more to the question than what was articulated in the words: "Am I pregnant?" If extra things "are included" in your question they must be explicitly told to the astrologer, which you have done now. Still, it is the astrologer's duty to ask for details.

So yes, based on this information I think you have formulated the answer well: "there is at minimum [an] affliction here and at maximum a loss?"

Best,

felipeastrologo wrote:This chart shows the most common testimony for pregnancy: L5 is in house 1. That is: "there is a baby inside the mother". (Mother being the querent) It is rather literal.

In this chart there is no need of any aspects and there is no need of a significator for the mother. So yes, there is pregnancy.

But there is a significant affliction to the baby in the form of an applying opposition with Mercury with negative reception from Mercury towards Mars. If there is a history of pregnancy problems or concerns with difficulties in becoming pregnant this *can* be such an indication.
Hi again Felipe,
IN case you are "out there." I wanted to loop back for 2 reasons, one to provide more info on the outcome here and second, to pose another question.

1) I am (was) not pregnant. Now, I dont knwo if I conceived and it did not implant, or if there was no fertilization but by the end of the month the cycle ended as it normally does.
1b) I am now wondering if the affliction you saw from the father was in fact an event that happened with my ex (the father of a previous loss and a man who I had separated from). He ended up taking some ...negative actions shall we say, towards me, that resulted in me having to solve an emergency to prevent harm to a third party and as a result, me being without sleep or food on the most critical day of implantation. I could not have lpredicted this would happen out of the blue, but I now in retrospect wonder if that is waht the chart was saying, ie the promise of conception thwarted by outside forces. Just an idea.

And here comes the question:
3) SINCE I am not pregnant, I cast a horary for next month's attempt which is using donor sperm from a different bank. these attempts are becoming very costly to me as a would be single mother, so I really have to be judicious in when and how often I make the attempts. Jupiter is in the 1st. I note in your sentence above, "L5 is in house 1" is a given for pregnancy. In this case the H5 cusp is not ruled by Jupiter, it's ruled (ugh) by Saturn. I know Jup is the natural significator for children however I presume that alone is not enough testimony for a "yes"?

Hi Polina,
Polina wrote:I don't knwow if I conceived and it did not implant, or if there was no fertilization but by the end of the month the cycle ended as it normally does.
What the chart is showing is: the inserted fertilized ovum "inside you" and its L8's immediate affliction, which translates as the ovum will not survive "inside you". How or why is not possible to answer with horary. The tight opposition stresses the fact that the affliction is present at the chart time; so the "pregnancy" did not develop further. In practice, while the statement "pregnancy" was probably used with the image of a growing ovum/child, the outcome came to one of the options we considered: "a loss".
Polina wrote:I am now wondering if the affliction you saw from the father was in fact an event that happened with my ex (the father of a previous loss and a man who I had separated from).
The "father" affliction I mentioned as *speculation* was before I knew this was IVF. So, it can be disregarded.

As far as I am concerned, we need to look first at L5. Saturn being L5 is not a problem in itself just by being Saturn. Jupiter in detriment in the 1st is likely of significance.

I would have to look at the new chart to give a proper opinion. If you post it please make sure to state clearly what you want to know and what your concerns are.

Hi Felipe,
Many thanks for the reply. Ok then I will post the chart here. The question is will the attempt at pregnancy/conception using IUI in the month of july work in that I will conceive/the egg will fertilize andimplant/ the child will not have any disorders/I will carry to term and deliver a healthy baby.

If the chart shows "no" (and I am pretty sure it does bc Saturn is not in the 1st), then I'd like to know any hints as to the impediments.

Also I'm aware of the early ASC warning but am reading the chart for clues anyway, as I need as much information as possible on this short (and expensive) journey.

Here is the chart:

ps. FYI just in case it affects the reading or understanding of the question. IVF is invitro insemination which involves taking loads of hormones, artificially extracting the eggs from the ovaries, artificially inseminating them in petri dishes in the lab, allowing them to grow to 3- or 5- day blast phase, and then implanting them back in the female. I'm not doing that as my hormones are fine and I am able to conceve in my own. IUI is intra-utero insemination which is simply inserting sperm into the uterus. ICI is intra cervical which is basically injecting sperm up to (but not through) the cervix. The latter two can be done in a home or office environment. IVF can only be done in a clinic for the obvious reasons. This time I am doing IUI or possibly a combination of IUI+ICI. but in any case there is not a live partner unfortunately.

As noted, this is for the month of July, the next cycle. We are currently in June :D

Are you asking about future aspects? The phrasing was "will it work" (not "did it" / not past tense).

Or do you want to know exactly which process will be used? I can say money has already been paid and at least one IUI will be performed. I have to wait for responses from providers about costs for a second IUI vs just ICI by myself.

Also FYI this "process" takes about 1 minute long in time. But it cannot be started prior to ovulation. It's not like IVF that takes months and thousands of dollars. So when I ask "Will it work in July" it means in that cycle. We are currently in the June cycle and I am not undertaking any attempts this month for financial reasons.

Does that help clarify?? I just dont like to get caught up in clinical details if its not necessary but I'm happy to provide as much information as needed in order to understand the question.

Ok no worries :-) and thanks in advance.

I'm getting a solid 'no' the more I look at it, (presuming even with early ASC nothing drastic will change as time passes). But it helps me learn to read the details/nuances of these sorts of charts, ie Jupiter as natural ruler of children yet NOT the ruler of the 5th house, so does it mean the same thing or is that less of a testimony? that sort of thing is a nuance I dont have the answer for yet.

23
Hi Polina,

I agree.

L5, Saturn, is retrograde. It is on Pluto by antiscion and it is on the star Antares. Antares is the star of things that end or fail to start. So we have some significant afflictions to L5 and an absence of pregnancy testimonies. I'm afraid, the answer to the questions would be negative.

Jupiter, the natural ruler of sperm, in house 1 aptly describes the method/processes you are planning to attempt.

Felipe thanks. A testimony like this always leads me to wonder: if I change something (add more vials, do the procedure ina clinic, or do ICI instead of IUI) would it change the outcome? One astrologer once told me horary is a glimpse of what will happen if we "keep on the same path" but doesnt show if we take other action. So what other action could I possibly take? :???:

In what way does jupiter reflect the procedure -- simply because it is "in my home" or putting the sperm (Jupiter) in me (H1)? Couldnt' conception by natural means be shown similarly? I realize probably it would use the 8th house but...?
