I also had/have a problem with aggression but I think it's due to the fact that Mars squares my Mercury in Libra (which conjuncts my Moon and Sun in Libra on the Ascendant) so my problem was with being too aggressive with my words and having to learn how to tell the truth without being hurtful or assuming my opinion was the right one. The interesting thing is nobody believes me when I say that I was shy when I was younger

I was very agressive with my words too and often I felt I was the truth?s owner. But that can be explained by 3 planets in Aries: Mercury, Venus and Sun...besides a Jupiter in the cusp of the ASC
We have a similar configuration: Scorpio, Cancer and Libra.
You don?t have Aries, but the Sun?s dispositor is in Mars?s sign!

The lesser dignity of triplicity is more for almuten calculation and time rulership. Outlet for a sign to produce things the other rulers can't. When a planet is debilitated by fall or detriment, only support from its dispositor will help.
I have Mars in late Taurus, dignified by term and triplicity, but in Taurus. While studying with Zoller I asked him that very question above. He told me minor dignities don't mitigate detriment or fall.
I also broached the subject with Ben Dykes here through PM a few years ago, he gave me the answer I supplied above.
Mars in my chart is determined toward finances and partnerships and brings his debilitated condition with him. In Taurus Mars is incapable of building (or destroying) efficiently, he is held back and frustrated in this fixed earth sign.
I have only come across a few examples of a prominent Mars in Cancer. It keeps the emotions at a low boil, expressing themselves awkwardly and at inopportune times.

Hi Andrew - I don't know if you're still interested in the topic - my natal mars is in cancer H2, dignfied by term and triplicity, in partile square to moon in libra H5, and in mutual reception by exaltation with jupiter in intecepted scorpio H6 by partile sesquiquatrate - I'm past my 2nd saturn return and have at least some sense how this has worked out (hint: not great) - if you are, I'll offer some details, if not - an interesting conundrum for me as well. I think detriment always manifests but the minor dignities take the edge off, tend to add some kind of lining - stainless, tin, copper, etc, if not silver, give it a bit of a sardonic twist. Although for me, the MR with Ju may add a more humorous note than others may experience.

Mars is generally ineffective in dealing directly with the mundane affairs ruled by cancer, and succeeds only on her terms (pardon the play on words.) [Geburah, I've heard, is a war goddess under all that armor.]

Mars in cancer tends to overeat, but is adept in the kitchen.

Maybe a bit too ready/easy to get pregnant - a mixed blessing.

Mommy Dearest is a big deal, one way or another.

Not a natural athlete, but with surprising energy reserves - endurance rather than prowess.

Net, planet in detriment but with minor essential dignities - always unhappy and problematic -seems the only way to achieve anything is to redirect the natural inclination. Is this the case? If we look at this from general principles the nature of the malefics is always to be destructive. If anything I would have thought a debilitated malefic would be more likely to have a destructive and malefic effect? The issue of whether or not it can do this is surely more about its placement by accidental dignity rather than its essential dignity? Bringing this down to a basic CSI analysis essential dignity can be seen as motive , while accidental dignity is opportunity or ability to act. If I saw a horary, electional or event chart with Mars in Taurus or Cancer on one of the angles i would certainly not assume it was an ineffective planet! Quite on the contrary I would be worried about the power of its malefic influence.

I (in my nearly limitless ignorance) agree. Based on my experience, an afflicted malefic is an unhappy malefic. I am blessed not only with mars in cancer, but saturn in leo. Mars has minor dignities, saturn is an abject b-----d. Mars in exile seems more misdirected - (not misunderstood, poor dear. Run along next door to the modern forum...) and is prone to error in the affairs of the tenanted house and its opposite, while Saturn in fall undermines matters where he sits and seems to deny those of the opposite.

The sympathy with the water element is inherent in mars, but apparently needs the feminine cover of night to emerge - hot water can make you a nice cup of tea, a steamy bath, or a scalding horror. The dignity by term is strong or negligible, depending on your author (Lilly I think says its very important. Morin doesn't use it at all.) A lot depends on the condition and disposition of the moon, and if she beholds Mars, I suspect.

Ok, I'm usually immune to giving much attention to a single planet in a certain sign and expecting to get many informations from it as it is such a small part of the picture.I've also always had troubles linking a single placement with a potential influence onto the life of the native as the same planet in the same place will act differently if differently aspected . In a way, I believe in aspects rather than in placements . I usually only open my eyes wide and examine the placement and the nature of the planet itself when i see an unaspected planet- not only because it's all I have but also because such planets tend to exaggerate and often express themselves through the sign they're in in a very "aggressive" way. Same goes for the houses they're occupying. But, after reading this thread, I felt challenged! )) So, I decided I'd make a list of some interesting people with Mars in cancer but, just in case i get too carried away - I decided I'd focus onto something "martian" to begin with and see how many obviously Martian famous people have got this placement in their charts! Instead of searching for warriors , I decided I'd rather focus on sportsmen. How much can a man (i decided I'd only use the charts of the male nativities) do in sports with Mars in Cancer!
So, I opened the Astrotheme search page and entered this placement as the only criterion. I am stunned! The results are truly fascinating! Some of the most glorified and most famous players of the modern era were on the list. True champions!

I did not pay much attention to the placement inside the houses as I'm aware that not all the data are accurate over there so I'll skip that part but this is the list of my biggest surprises:

Roger Federer- I must say I find his style rather boring but that man is already ona good way to be remembered as The Nr.1 in tennis. Separating aspects mainly...if this data is right, I'll surely take some time to give this chart a better look

Jean-Claude Van Damme - another martian type in more than one way. His carrer was mainly buil upon his sports skills, fights, macho appearance and strength (mars, mars, mars....)- his Mars is in Cancer too


Now, look at this; I must say I'm a real fan of football (or soccer if you like ) just like the rest of my family and the "Who is/was the best player ever?!" arguments are fairly common in my home. ))) The fact is- we basically argue only when it comes to the positions on the list, but the names are always pretty much the same. Those same names are usually found on similar lists in Sports magazines, websites etc. Not that I had any reason to check that twice but still, I did- I looked up some of these lists again- as expected, 3 names are occupying the highest positions in every single list:

Zinedine Zidane - Mars on 28,26 Cancer (I believe I've seen his chart already so, if the data really is correct, the Moon is applying to his Mars from Scorpio inside the 6th which is pretty descriptive)

Michel Platini - Mars on 17,06 Cancer, conjunct the Moon

Diego Armando Maradona - the Mars on 15,47 Cancer, his chart is a real treat,I'll say no more.

Then Novak Djokovic, a few great football players and basketball players.....

The Mars of those people has obviously had enough strength to make them great!

the important word is "efficiently". I have Mars in Taurus in the 8th, and when he rules the time period there is definite explosion and harm, but not as bad as one would expect.
Case in point, during the Venus/Mars firdar period (Venus rules the 1st and 8th in my chart and disposes the debilitated Mars) with Mars on the MC of my solar return I had a gun pulled on me and fired at point blank.
The first shot jammed and the 2nd one paused long enough for me to escape.
Mars in the 8th is determined toward a violent death, plain and simple. But in a fixed earth sign with no real dignity his actions and initiative to create death are hampered. In this case due to faulty weaponry mechanics (Mars in Taurus?), now when he is the principle rule of the firdar things might change. But it will still be due to malfunction, not efficient action.
