In traditional astrology, the 1st house isn't necessarily equated with Mars. Mercury rejoices there(a minor accidental dignity) because his association with intellect, head and speech. Saturn is a co-sig.

The reason I allocate AC to home team is that because AC is the most powerful point in the chart. I don't know how things are in the USA, but here in Europe, playing at home is considered to be a strong advantage. Particularly when two teams of equal standings play, bookies give home team shorter odds. Home ground is like a fortress where the home team fight and protect, while visiting team has to play in an alien and sometimes hostile enviroment(disadvantaged), going into a lion's den, as it were, with the local supporters roaring behind the home team. The AC is the ones who do the fighiting and the 7th is the House of open enemies.
Statiscally also home team has been proved to be in an advantageous position.

I agree completely with Gem: most of the time the home team is the favorite. Here in the US the home field is generally considered to be worth 3 points in the pointspread.

But it sometimes happens here, and I am certain it happens 'over there', that the home team is playing a clearly superior opponent, in which case they are not made the favorite by the line maker. If you have a home team that has a loosing record and they are playing a road team that has won it's last dozen games, then no amount of home field advantage is going to make them a favorite. You think that team really thinks they are going to beat the visitor? They're not fools. They know the most they can hope for is to not be completely humilitated in front of their fans.

Sometimes there is no home field advantage at all. Some teams actually do better on the road. Years ago the New Orleans Saints (NFL) were a terrible team. Their 'fans' showed up with signs that said 'New Orleans Aint's', and some wore paper bags over their heads so no one would know they went to a Saints game. You think the Saints had a home field advantage in that situation?

But you are correct in that we need more than one way to decide on who gets the first. An analysis of team preformance over the last few games is probably better than using the spread alone, but you can never be sure.

One of these days I have to try Goca's method, even tho I'm skeptical. I have been experimenting with Sophia Mason's diurnal chart method, which would bypass the question entirely, but I have decided to put it on the back burner for now. Anybody interested?

In Soccer ASC go to team that begin from center of field, make first kick.

We've discussed this a few times in the past. I think it is logical but it's not really practical, the main disadvantage being that unless you are able to watch the game live, there's no way of knowing which team kicks off.

I think there are cases where a chart may be judged without deciding who is asc or des. In such instances, any fortification of the Midheaven is an advantage to the favourite. As far as I can grasp, Fortuna represents the favourite. I wish the effect of Fortuna was more clear and cutting. This could probably be the case in contests of a certain quality. It would appear that the order of considerations should be adjusted according the nature and quality of the contest.

Today we have Birmingham - Newcastle. Birmingham keeps the ascendant, that is for sure. But in the game Gueugnon - Nantes, played half an hour earlier in France, Nantes are 2nd in their league while Geuegnon are rock bottom. Geuegnon are not in command of the situation. They will loose their league. They loose the ascendant.

I'm all into the relationships formed between the lord of the hour and the radical ascendant, to see whether there is a give-away here regarding how a chart should be approached.

As the quality of matches step down from premier level, the element of predictability changes. The outfall of the match is decided according to a different weatherbell - and our tools should be adjusted accordingly. In almost every instance there are several matches of various qualities occuring at almost the same time. The art is understanding the qualities of the game and matching these with the qualities of the moment.

I propose Baseball.
In Baseball, Guest Team begin and we bravely assign ASC to GUEST.

In case of Soccer we need statistical investigation.

New idea from Bonatti.

Look at rulers of 6th and 12th and see which is stronger (essential +accidental). If stronger 12th then ASC=Home team, If stronger 6th DSC=Home team.

It is not Bonatti himself, it is really B.Brady. Brady (and me) think, 2th house is material support and physical reserves or form of team or sportsman. 12th house is non-material support of local town and fans. 2th house represent team reserves and their past record. So, power of 2th (or 8th) houses may represent a potential favorite.

Idea is absolutely new, I tried it yesterday 1st time, so I take sum of essential and accidental dignities.

I tried to study essential dignity on 4th house cusp (which ruler get more essential dignity there), but it seems don't work.

Where can I look this up, UBER? Can you give me where I find this in either Bonatus or Brady's work, so that the idea can sink in?

I hear for the first time that 12 house represent nonmaterial support. I always read 12 house represent hidden enemies.
