NC quotes in his 2004 edition p.156:

Two dates are given for the independence of Iceland from Denmark, both of which may be the basis for a national horoscope. Legal sovereign independence was granted on 1 December 1918 [chart set for Rejkjavik, 12 noon (Wat +1 hr); ascendant= 21Sag 15] ?.The second date is that for the severance of all links with Denmark and the proclamation of a republic on 17 June 1944 at Rejkjavik ? the Republic formally inaugurated at 2:00 pm (WAD + 0hr / 02 Libra 13 rises).

Norway extends loan - Better than Russian solution

On Monday the Nordic Prime Ministers met in Finland to discuss the finance crises. Norway will extend the credit to the Federal Bank of Iceland, Norwegian Prime Minister Stoltenberg said. Iceland will receive a loan of 2 mrd Euro from the International Monetary Fund. Stoltenberg says this is better than Iceland taking a loan from Russia.

- I think it is better that the IMF sets up an agreement that can form the basis for a closer cooperation among the Nordic nations, says the Norwegian Prime Minister.

for the first time since the discussion came up, the Isclandic crisis hit my general news sites, with an article about how there are large protests calling for the resignation of the PM in Iceland. that was in the last hour or so for me, on the pacific coast, and its about 2:20 pm here. just for time reference. thought it pertinent to your thread,

In a recent questionair refered to in the Norweigan news, 30% of the population were considering emigrating from Iceland. This poll has been taken as T Pluto approaches the IC of the National Chart of Iceland.

The Norwegian government has decided to give Iceland a long term loan of 500 mill Euro, or 4,25 mrd NOK. (Source: Aftenposten).

Iceland's Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, resigned yesterday January 26th and today the socialdemocratical leader, Ingibj?rg Gisladottir, has been asked whether she can form a minority Government that can lead the nation forward to the national election that is due in May.

This is transit Pluto closing in on it's opposition to the MC in the national chart of Iceland. The minority government is thought of as an intermediate solution up intil a new government can be elected. Mercury is retrograde as this process comes to surface.

Andrew,

the Act of Union agreement December 1, 1918 was just 2 days Prior to the Saros 11 North Eclipse. this action one day after. Do you suppose that possibly Iceland identifies more closely with the 1918 origination date than the 1944 one?

something to look into.

Iceland Central Bank holds interest rate at 18%

While the rest of the world is moving towards an interest rate of zero prosent, the Central Bank of Iceland reported yesterday, Thursday, that they are holding their interest rate at 18%.

Tansit Pluto is approaching the opposition of the national MC at 3CN32 but won't quite complete the aspect and will perform a frustration when it turns retrograde at 3CP17 on April 4. This story is not likely to be over with the first.

Could other nations be forced to turn up their interest rates if the financial packages to not turn the economy around and there is a need to defend the currency as the nation plunges down into the financial black hole?

Good observation regarding the eclipse-cycle, Granny! :'

I think it is terrific, but probably symbolic of the total cataclysm Island that must be experiencing at the moment. The story still smacks of transit Pluto in bicorporeal Capricorn in opposition to the MC. The power was given to the opposition.

Ingibj?rg Solrun Gisladottir is born Dec 31. 1954 in Reykjavik. Interesting to note that she is in fact a Capricorn and born on the last day of the year.
