I would be very happy to take a look at this chart and post my thoughts here, provided that it is a valid chart. Before we embark on any kind of delineation we look for radicality. My point is: when did you ask the question? It is always better to use the time when the question was clearly and honestly asked.

I'll try to be clear as there has been a lot of confusion about this chart.

At 6:41 pm on January 14 my husband told me that there was a possibility that he could get a teaching job in Switzerland. The chart is cast for that moment, with the implicit question, "Will we move to Europe this year?"

Background: My husband broached the subject so we could discuss whether or not we would be ready and willing to uproot and move this summer if he were to get the job. His friend who had worked at the school before, was waiting to hear from the current holder of the job who was considering whether or not she was going to retire this year. She, my husband's friend, wanted to know if we were willing to relocate this year if the job became available, so we had to make a decision.

To my way of thinking, the moment that the idea was expressed, with its implicit question of whether or not the opportunity would arise and if so if we would take advantage of it this year constituted a clear "moment of astrology" and as such could be interpreted using horary techniques.

My current view is that it is unlikely to happen this year and I have forum members contributions to thank for my change of mind on this, particularly the realization that with fixed angles it is unlikely that anyone is going anywhere fast in this situation.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the chart.

I'd say this is a very much a valid horary chart.
I do not see a movie here at all.

As you rightfully said, fixed angles.
Moon natural lord of homes is fixed trinng Sun, you and your husband*
Mars, lord of 4th house, is about to enter a fixed sign.
Saturn lord of 7th house *new house* is not doing anything at all other than stationary and about to go retro. I would say change of plans.

Sadly there is not a single yes here.

I believe that an opportunity will arise. The Sun is applying by sextile to Jupiter, natural significator of overseas travel, who happens to be on the cusp of the 9th house. Jupiter rules the 5th house (ambassadors, go-betweens) and is in the last degrees of Pisces. So a change is imminent with the intervention of a third party. Also, the Sun has been going after Mars for some time. Again, Mars rules the 9th house and the 4th. So, you have been looking forward to a change and some travel, but never quite had the chance. However, the Sun will soon conjunct Mars in the next sign. The Moon trines the Sun from the 10th house (a nice opportunity). The Moon is the almutem of the 10th house. It is interesting to note that the MC is right on the exaltation degree of Taurus. The last aspect of the Moon is the sextile to Jupiter.

All of the above indicate lots of changes and are positive sings that some opportunities towards your goal will present themselves. Good luck!

Thanks CD. It's not such a bad outcome because the woman will retire in the next year or three and we'll get our shot at the move then.

I appreciate your confirmation that this is a valid horary, something I never doubted but there was some dissension on this point.

Is it now? Thanks for pointing this out. It's not very clear in the images attached, but it doesn't make any difference whatsoever as far as my judgement is concerned. In fact, it reinforces it! Jupiter is right on the cusp of the 9th and Mars is co-ruler of the 9th (Aries intercepted).

This is the outline i used

1. The 1st house and its ruler and planet (in 1st if applicable) represent the enquirer)

2. 4th house and its ruler and planet there if apllicable represent - current residence

3. 7th house with its ruler and a planet there if applicable represent - future residence

4. if 4th house and its ruler is more fortunate than the 7th house and its ruler - questor better stay where he is at

5. if 7th house and its ruler stronger or better aspected to the ruler of 1st house or any planets in 1st house - move.

6. if moon separates from a fortunate planet - the questor is leaving the good

7. if the moon applies to a fortunate planet, it is better to remove.

8. If the moon separates from aspects of the malefic - stay where you at

9. Angles - Cardinal - move is possible, mutable - more planning ahead, fixed - most likely querent will stay or the move will not happen as fast as thought

10. any good planets in 1st or 4th house - better to stay

11. any good planets in 7th, better to remove



this chart has

1. moon is fixed and slow trines Sun - last aspect was trine to merc (neutral)

2. angles fixed - no moving

3. mars about to enter fixed sign

4. saturn in 3rd house

5. minor reception exchange between sun/mars a bit better than sun/saturn reception

6. No planets in 1st, 7th, 4th house

7. mid degree on asce - NO change


I would not use 9th house here at all because it is not about traveling. It is about moving.

Well I'm going to have to walk out on a tightrope on this one as the confusion has really baffled many of us. And that tightrope walk leads us into a very murky swamp that those of us who value the Ancients and Lilly have learned to ignore. Yet according to a few Horary artists via this Forum, our great adept and generous host Deb has stated according to some on our Forum 'that in some horarys she saw how Outers were useful as she could Not see any other way to accurately judge a said horary without consulting an Outer on the issue'.

Notice our confusion on this one and Neptune in 7th for the astrologer, Tara. And I think the 7th may include the consultantcy here as well.

As stated I do not want to be branded a Horary Heretic who studys Traditionalism; but this one has us swimming around.

At first I thought the quesited was about a job for her husband, being the horary's 4th, or derived 10th of the 7H/her husband.

But now that the question has less muddy waters we see it's the 'move to Europe' that is the quesited.

And if Saturns Rectrograde or rather stationary R, will there be a return from Europe if the job is aquired as it just won't work out?

I am very well familiar with relocation horaries and the rules that you described, but it is not always advisable to use the 1st/7th axis, especially when overseas travel is involved. Usually, the chart itself will show you the way, and this chart is screaming 9th house. I don't think it can be any more pronounced than this. Furthermore, this is not exactly a question about relocation (Should I stay or should I go), but about a job abroad. So, it requires a slightly different handling than a typical relocation horary.

I don't know how I managed to confuse the fact that the person who is in the teaching position is retiring with the husband retiring. Yes, something Neptunian is afoot. So the husband is not retiring. Geesh, I am sorry about that.

So perhaps you can look at the ASC ruler as the querent and her husband, since this is a shared venture. I thought Saturn described the husband until I realized he was not retiring. Saturn may be the female teacher about to retire. Just a thought anyway. Saturn slow in the 3rd to me just seems like an elderly person in a teaching position, so this could describe someone possibly retiring, and by soon turning retro this could show a change - to retiring? The MC ruler applying to Saturn and Saturn retro can show giving a position back (a reversal). Since the ASC ruler is really stuck in a sore spot in a sign of Saturn and the 7th ruler is likely describing the other teacher, this seems to be the case to me - they are waiting on Saturn. Saturn tends to delay matters also, so this could be a bit of a wait. I would like it a lot better if things weren't so cadent and fixed on top of that (plus Moon with Algol).
