Yes, Maternus considers the 4th and 7th to be associated with death. But occasionally we also get delineation of death from the 8th and by extension, the 2nd (due to the fact that Maternus considered some houses opposite to each other to have similar meanings in addition to their own meanings).

However, in this specific case, there are no planets occupying the 4th and 7th (when using Equal House), but there are certain planets on the 8th and 2nd. So they become the main testimonies.

Often in modern times we would be asked to check the condition of the domicile lords of the 4th and 7th, and while Maternus also mentions something similar, he did not give any overt delineations, so I have less information on how to delineate it that way right now. In other words, it's still in the research stage.

hi larxene,

i find very little difference between whole sign and equal house myself.. perhaps it has to do with me always associating the sign on the ascendant as the sign that defines both whole sign and equal sign house cusps - in this chart - sun in aquarius is the 9th sign from gemini rising. equal house would have aq on the 9th as well.. i suppose if one puts more emphasis on the degree, then one could say sun in 8th - but that i think has more to do with incorporating the midheaven axis in the different house systems that work towards doing that. well - that is my personal take on whole sign and equal house.. i don't see much difference between the 2 myself based on how i view equal houses..

on death and sam cookes chart.. i mostly see mars opp sun as a problem and sign of potential death by murder.. i could rationalize this with cap on the 8th and saturns position, and mars exaltation, but i don't really think that is it - though it is a good rationalization.. the opposition of sun to mars is a challenging one as i see it, no matter what the chart. i think it causes a lot of strife, conflict and strong opposition, mostly due the fact that mars in an opposition is a sign of open conflict. i mentioned i thought he was pugnacious and something else - i forget... it was based on this opposition that i said that. upon looking at the chart more closely, i note the very close aspect between mars and saturn using the 22 degree 30 minute aspect - 1/2 a 45 or 1/4 a 90 - a 16th harmonic aspect.. i know it ain't trad astro, but i thought i would mention it as it shows up as a very close aspect using this modern technique. otherwise - the tie in of mars as exaltation ruler of the cap 8th, even with saturn in the 8th doesn't seem enough to make it happen.. perhaps if i could find another chart with a similar set up where mars and saturn weren't in such a close aspect to one another, i convince others and myself of the value of this 'un-traditional approach!!!
