May I ask something like that about the Part of Marriage? Paulus says that it is calculated by day and night from Saturn to Venus and projected it from the Ascendant for men and the reverse for women.
But Ben Dykes in his mp3 on lots reverses it for day and night births too: in short Dykes reverses for day and night and for men and women.
Any thought and source?

Hi Margherita

Just wrote a long post but then I lost it as I closed my browser down by mistake. I don't have time to rewrite now, but I was basically quoting Dorotheus. You can see what he writes on p.24 of this file http://www.skyscript.co.uk/dorotheus2.pdf

It seems that Pingree translated the term into "Lot of Wedding" initially, where we are given the calculation (to be reversed at night). But then he translates it as the "Lot of Marriage" in the next section, where we are told to reverse the order of the planets for women. He doesn't specifically state that this should be reversed at night also, but I think we can assume that the previous instruction applies here also.

Hope this is helpful as a source for you to consider yourself.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but Maternus uses Saturn-Venus for male charts, and Mars-Venus for women. The passage can be found in p. 222-223 (Bram trans.), or p. 393-394 (Holden trans.). The two Lots are given different names.

Also interesting is the formulation of the Lot of Substance. In Dorotheus' fifth book on elections, the Lord of a house/planet signifies how an event ends, while the house/planet itself shows how an event starts off. (I believe this association is implied in Valens, though not explicitly stated.) This Lot seems to be "from the end to the beginning". :) Intriguing.
