The technique did enter India during the second (Arabic-language) transmission of astrology from the north-west, if not during the first (Greek-language) one. But it was misunderstood or simplified in exactly the way you describe and apparently didn't catch on. The simplified version is described briefly in the ?????????? Manu?yaj?taka (the original title of which seems to have been ?????????? Karmaprak??a).

In a way, the year itself can be seen as a sub-period within the period related to any given terms (their divisio or qisma in Arabic, Sanskritized as kisim?), and the months, etc, as sub-sub-periods. But the Indian T?jika authors treat the year as the greatest unit and invent various da?? systems to subdivide the year, sometimes adapting or 'creatively misunderstanding' Perso-Arabic techniques.

I wonder if the Bhrigu samhita or Nadi astrologers were using the technique for predicting events. Now, I remember that a couple of Nadi readings that have come to my notice used some irregular periods of time for prediction. I could not figure out how they arrived at those blocks of time.

I've never come across anything like that myself, but I have seen it suggested that the periods that underlie the so-called minor years of the planets (such as 8 years for Venus and 15 for Mars), and which are based on astronomical cycles, were used in some n??i texts. But we're drifting off topic.

Ignoring Nadi and coming back to the topic- the simplified version works best with intrinsic nature of planet- Saturn bad, Jupiter good.

I tried this approach on Hitlers chart and it works well.

Ac Libra 26 deg 41m- take it as 27 deg.= 1 year of venus left. 1deg of term= 1 year

Saturn term in scorpio : 1916-1922 (wounded 1916 and 1918)
Saturn term in Sagittarius: 1943-1948 (dead)

Jupiter term in Scorpio: 1911-1916
Jupiter term in Sagittarius: 1922-1934

As I said before, it's also a zodiac question. Historically speaking, many Greek and Persian astrologers worked with a zodiac that didn't begin with the equinox, and that will change the place of the terms, though it won't affect the promissors (planets and aspects) encountered by the significator.
