Did you read this chart given the late ascendant or did you accept the late ascendant as indicating that it was too late to ask this question? I presume your question was specifically whether she will attend the gathering or not.

The question was simply will I/we be meeting with my wife's sister tonight. It was important enough for me to ask the question because, if I knew we wouldn't be meeting I could then invite her ex. Our son would be overjoyed to see him again.

The late ascendant didn't bother me at all.

This was an event based horary that centered on a meeting (aspect) between my ruler and my wifes sisters ruler. So we have Venus, the ruler of the 1st (me) and the Moon ruler of the 9th, 3rd from the 7th (my wifes sister). No applying aspect therefore it looks like she isn't coming. It's interesting to note that the last aspect of the Moon (a past event) was a sextile to Venus. Yes, she came to visit a few hours ago. We met and my wife was out. The outcome was that she never attended the gathering. Her ex was invited but had other plans.

I would love to hear anyone's comments on this.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what I think about this. When I saw the late ascendant I thought that it was probably too late to be asking this question. I don't think I would have read the chart. But I can understand you just wanted a simple answer to a simple question and so ignored the particular consideration of a late ascendant. After all, it is only a consideration not a stricture. It obviously gave you an accurate answer and seems quite reflective of the situation given the Moon separating from Venus, indicating recent contact. I wonder if the late ascendant is indicative of the fact that it was too late to make use of the answer given in the chart. Although the chart showed that your sister in law wouldn't turn up, the information turned out to be of no real value because her ex partner already had other plans. Interesting.

Deb mentioned that this is one of the worst ways to learn horary and I agree. There's a couple of reasons why I disagree with practicing with your own charts. One is that it is very difficult to be able to read your own chart and be objective when you are generally desirous of a particular outcome.

I personally start to learn my little skills in horary only when I give up drawing to myself and start drawing to others, friends and members of the forum. The problem with that is the lack of feedback which can make learning very slow. It is good to keep clean cut notes and always keep horaries, because you can see later "oh, it was a translation of light" or something like that.

Maurice McCann says in his site that he learned by testing all the rules in a day-to-day method with e-mails and correspondence, and this took him to disregard a lot of rules, like considerations before judgement. I don?t quite agree with this method. My knowledge of astrology indicates me that the answer given is dependent of our method of asking and reading it. If you use an method which rules about an inpersonal thing, like e-mail, you will find a lot of colorful qualitative indications useless. An e-mail can only arrive or not. An missing person can be death, injured, kidnapped, mentally insane, making a joke, etc, so qualitative issues are very important.

If you do wanna make a buck in the stock options, then you only matter with quantitative issues, and qualitative ones are very useless for you. I know of an astrologer who disregar a lot of things, like houses and signs, to use only aspects in predicting finances ups and downs. To me is not astrology?s fault, the problem is the kind of question and method he is asking, and this positivist, empiricist view. Astrology is not an positive science, is an humanistic one, so people should be aware that method, like in the human sciences, always shapes the kind of answer you get it.
