On December 28, 1930 Welles father died of heart and kidney failure, Welles was 15 years old. The profection was in the 4th whole sign, Virgo, with the profected Asc at 24 Virgo 20 ad Mercury as Lord of the Year. The profection is in the 4th of the father with Mercury, lord of the year, in the profected 8th (death, inheritance) with the Sun (father).

Welles wife was pregnant during this period and he was having affairs (Neptune?) with Dolores del Rio and Geraldine Fitzgerald around this time.

These aspects were all active at the time Welles married Mori but I did not examine them in detail; in retrospect, they appear to indicate the reason Mori's family pushed for a marriage, there was a “secret” (12th) that is now revealed (Uranus), she was pregnant. Note that Uranus was not conjunct the MC at the time of the wedding although it was trine directed Pluto; Pluto is critical in the profected 10th (wife's 4th – dictatorial father) so it's likely the family knew. Directed Mercury (ruler of the profected 9th), which has now moved to trine the radix lot of Daughters, supports knowledge of the pregnancy being a motivating force for the marriage.

The bulk of his planets (7) are in 1st degree signs (Aries thru Cancer) indicating he is strongly motivated to act primarily according to his own feelings, ideas and inner desires which he expresses freely although with 3 planets in the 3rd degree signs (Sagittarius thru Pisces) in the 9th and 10th he is more reserved when expressing himself to the media (9th) and those in authority (10th), taking their possible reactions to his real inner feelings and ideas into account.

Marriage
Jupiter in Pisces in the 10th ruling the 7th in Sagittarius, two mutable signs, indicate he may have multiple marriages, all to warm, generous women (Jupiter) who were strongly connected to his career (10th). Difficulties with his wives families and an element of coercion is indicated by Saturn and Pluto in the 1st in opposition to the 7th. It is interesting that both the signs are dual-bodied and that he maintained two relations at the end of his life; one legal, the other, back-door.

Finances
The most elevated planets in Welles chart are the Moon and Uranus in the 9th; he was largely known for his highly individualistic (Uranus) ideas (9th) which were first recognized when he was quite young; his mother (Moon) believed he was a “boy genius” and he appears to have been treated as a child prodigy by some of his teachers.

That his income would likely depend on his oratory and writing (9th) is shown by the Moon ruling the 2nd (money). That movies and schemes would play a part is shown by Neptune in the 2nd. Welles, in the second half of life, was plagued by the IRS, who were chasing him for several hundred thousands of dollars. The problems can be seen by the Moon being in the 8th (taxes) from the 2nd and with Saturn (ruler of the radix 8th) in the 1st; they dogged him.

Triplicity Rulers

Welles career (10th) and personal life (1st) are closely tied with Saturn, ruler of the 10th, critical in the 1st conjunct (5º 05') the Ascendant averse to Mercury (L1) in the 12th. Air signs are on the 1st and 10th which gives the Asc and MC the same triplicity rulers: Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter. Saturn is the 1st (diurnal) triplicity ruler and so rules the first half of life. He is angular, so powerful, in his own triplicity and so supported by friends, associates, conjunct the Asc and in an applying trine with the MC and applying square with Jupiter; Welles did have career success early in life.

The second triplicity ruler is Mercury (L1) who is burnt and debilitated in the 12th and involved in an applying sextile to Jupiter in the 10th. Jupiter is in Pisces, Mercury's detriment and so he's rejected; the studio bosses (10th is authorities) took control of Welles work in the later half of his career and blocked his efforts to have it presented to the public as he meant it to be shown; opportunities (sextile) led to disappointment (12th).

12th Parts

The 12th part of the Asc is 16 Aries 20 which falls in the 11th house, a good place, and in the terms of Mercury, L1, so his life was largely in his own hands, concerned with the arts (with Venus) but not without strife, also being with Mars, or disappointment (Mercury in 12th and burnt).
The 12th part of the MC is at 8 Aquarius 07 which falls in the 9th house, also a good place, in Venus' terms, which connects his actions with artistic pursuits (Venus), in the 11th (hopes), entertainments (5th) and disappointment (12th), the places Venus rules.. The 9th, being cadent, denies him control over how his efforts play out.

On January 14, 1863 Addam's mother died in childbirth; Jane was 2 years old, the profection was in the 3rd whole sign of Libra which holds the cusp of the 3rd house. The cusp is at 10 Libra and was in the mitigated semi-sextile (conjunction) of the directed Sun, putting the profected Asc at 10 Libra rather than the Ascendant degree of 21. The profection is in the 3rd of siblings, the Sun, ruler of the radix Ascendant and acting as Lord of the Year is in the 12th of sorrow.
