He stepped out exactly 5 pm BST But if things now go this way I think it's correct to say he is staying in power out of the election, but then to stand down. 134 by Mark Absolutely riveting! If you wrote political fiction like this no one would believe you! Now a Liberal Democrat-Labour coalition is game on again. This is like the political equivalent of white river rafting. If this does happen it will explain something about the Aries Ingress chart I wondered about. The fixed star Bellatrix was on the MC of the chart and traditionally represents the female warrior and is associated with loquacious women. It was odd as there were no women standing in the election. I put it down to just the 'war of words' represented by the general election. However once Gordon Brown steps down as leader, Harriet Harman, as the deputy leader will assume the role as leader of the Labour party until the result of the leadership election. Although, he is stating he will remain until the Labour party conference in October I wonder whether he might need to step down as PM before then. In response the Conservatives have offered voting reform in a referendum. However, the system they are proposing (Alternative vote) is not really proportional representation. Its interesting the Conservatives are already criticising a prospective Labour-Lib government will lack democratic legitimacy as yet again this would result in another Labour PM not elected through a General Election. Interesting...maybe Joakims theory about Nick Clegg for PM is not so crazy... Interesting...maybe Joakims theory about Nick Clegg for PM is not so crazy... Mark There is actually some reasonable logic talking in favour for it, although it would of course be very controversial. The strongest case I can see would be as a kind of safety mechanism, preventing the new Labour leader inheriting the PM title to simply call for a new election, just saying "I wasn't part of that agreement" or something similar. Don't forget they need support from Scotland and Wales as well, and maybe from Brighton (Greens). Maybe they would feel more comfortable with a non labour PM in this situation. Of course, neither of the alternatives would be easy for the Conservatives to stomach, but Clegg would probably be easier to digest then a "new" Labour leader that never stod in the elections. It's interesting though how everybody on tv etc. simply take it for granted it should be a Labour PM after Brown! A bit short of time looking at charts now, but it's interesting that GB makes his move which opens up for the Lib/Lab or "Progressive" Coalisition just as Trasit Sun is in opposition to Con Party native Sun, but will it lead to Con going into opposition or Labour? Yes your right. Oh well another beautiful theory destroyed by an ugly fact. I do think all this criticism of unelected prime ministers is a bit odd. I suppose the leaders debate encouraged the notion of a Presidential system like the US. However, Britain is a parliamentary democracy and the office of PM has always been one of selection by the consensus of parliament not the public. 137 by Mark We return to another day of astrological deal or no deal. Gordon Brown's dramatic announcement to resign as Labour party leader but remain as Prime Minister has really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons. We now know that Nick Clegg met secretly with Gordon Brown before his announcement yesterday and that secret parallel negotiations were going on between the Labour party and Liberal Democrats. Today we have formal negotiations starting between the the Liberal Democrats and Labour. The meeting was announced as having just started at 10.08am on the BBC news channel so I have timed the chart for then. The chart has an applying Moon-Venus sextile. The Moon is angular in the 10th house (sign division) while Venus is in the 11th house associated with Parliament. The Moon is strongly out of sect (in a day chart, above the horizon and in a masculine sign) It also lacks any essential dignity and is peregrine. Venus on the other hand is within its term (bound). The dispositor of Venus is Mercury which is located in the 10th house and stationary. Mercury is Lord 12. That ever present Saturn-Uranus opposition is quite close to the MC-IC of the chart. The MC is in a cardinal sign but its ruler (Mars) is in a fixed sign As thou conversest with the heavens, so instruct and inform thy minde according to the image of Divinity William Lilly Quote Tue May 11, 2010 10:22 am

Hi Tom, Even if we do end up with a coalition government of the centre-left I wouldn't agree at all that things would effectively be the same. The United Kingdom hasn't had a peace time coalition government since the 1930s. The last coalition government in Britain ended in 1945. Apart from a slight wabble in 1977-8 during the limited Lib-Lab pact its been a totally two party duopoly running the show. This looks like it might be the final end of two party politics in Britain. I think any historian would agree that this represents a highly significant development. Imagine if a third party emerged nationally in the USA and challenged the hegemony of the Republican-Democrat House of Representatives. Wouldn't that excite a few Americans? Of course I am comparing quite different political systems. In Britain our legislaure and executive powers come together in our parliament. The PM is selected from parliament. In a sense one could very well apply your statement to American politics with the two party duopoly that that has totally controlled American politics since the civil war. Its interesting that the USA like Britain upholds a first past the post electoral system that does not really reflect the range of political opinion. Smaller parties are effectively squeezed out by the powerful party machines in the US. As a result the Republicans and Democratic parties are effectively political coalitions reflecting the wide spectrum of political belief each party has to represent. Incidentally, its by no means certain we are heading for a Liberal-Democrat-Labour coalition. There are many political factors working against this at the moment. 140 by JoakimS Lib-Con talks resumed at 14:00 BST, Mc in Gemini, Asc in Virgo, Mercury Stationary still in Taurus on 9th (Placidus) and will soon start to moving forward. Of course many other things in the chart but adding up this with latest developments it pretty much points towards a Lib-Con coalition - unless the deal is blocked by the LibDem trippel lock mechanism. /Joakim Living on Earth may be expensive, but it includes a free trip around the sun every year. http://www.astrocalc.com Quote Tue May 11, 2010 1:51 pm
141 by Deb Hi Mark, Joakim and all, I heard a media conversation earlier today where the reporter asked a commentator what he thought now, and his answer was ?what I think now is that it?s best to stop trying to predict what is going to happen next?. There is probably something for astrologers in that. Any clear-headed astrological assessment really needed to take a view of the available charts well in advance of the event, before the media started pumping out messages of where the situation is most likely heading. When we get close to, or into, the event, it is very difficult for an astrologer to not be trailing the media view. Even at this stage, with the uncertainty of how the government of the country will be settled, it seems to me that the preceding charts gave clear warnings of all this sense of failure to govern, the disturbance, the end of the preceding situation, and the ?hung? state of affairs that weren?t going to be clearly decided (and the probability of another election being needed again afterwards). When we have the full hindsight view a lot of details are going to fall into place and make much better sense than they could beforehand, when most of us hadn?t got a clue of how such a situation could possibly arise let along be resolved. I have personally gone off the idea of keeping up with the charts that accompany every statement; it seems to be more of the same, or a descent into minutiae, whereas the interesting thing (in my opinion) is how astrologers had infomation available before the event, and to what extent that was able to mirror and reflect what actually happened. Just a thought. Deb Quote Tue May 11, 2010 2:50 pm
142 by Mark Hi Deb, Ok I guess not everyone here is as interested in the political intrigues in this kind of detail. Apologies if this is getting boring or irrelevent for some of you. As a close observer of UK politics all my life I have found the last week the most fascinating I can ever remember. Maybe that excitement has overtaken a more detached view at times. I accept that astrologically we have flogged this to death. In any case it looks like the speculation is effectively over regarding a Lib-Dem Labour coalition. According to the BBC the talks are not going any further and an announcement is imminent..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/ I do plan to put up the chart for when the issue reaches its outcome with the likely announcement of a coalition agreement between the Conservatives and Lib Dems. I also plan to do a round up of successful astrological predictions prior to the election here. After that its on to a new thread on the Labour party leadership election. That should show the electorate - who, judging by the planetary receptions, doesn't have much interest in either of them - giving their vote to the enemy I'm a lifelong tory and the events of the last few days have simply emphasised the reasons why!
