Yesterday's assassination of Pakistani governor Salman Taseer has stirred fears of increased instability in the democratically elected government of Pakistan. Taseer was regarded as the highest profile Pakistani political figure to be assassinated since former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto three years ago. Remarkably, Taseer's untimely death coincided with the January 4th solar eclipse (13 Capricorn). The Capr. eclipse quincunxed Pakistan's Saturn/Pluto conjunction (13 Leo). When we arrive at the April 3rd New Moon square to this eclipse (13 Aries) could we see the unraveling of Pakistan's fragile coalition? In a worst case scenario; are we looking at a possible war with India (April 3rd Mars/Uranus conj square to Pakistan's natal Mars/ 0 Cancer)?

If I may venture an opinion on this, if the situation spirals out of control on the Indian subcontinent, a monumental 'distraction' as it were, this would almost assuredly encourage North Korea to seize the opportunity and make a bold move against its southern neighbor. Any thoughts on this? Perhaps this may require a new thread......

SALMAN Taseer's Decency Incurred The Wrath of Fanatics

As a symbol of the religious extremism engulfing Pakistan, the assassination of Punjab governor Salman Taseer could not be more significant. Inevitably, there will be grave fears for the survival of the nuclear-armed nation's nascent democracy. Taseer, a liberal man in every sense of the word, incurred the wrath of religious fanatics over his bold defence of Aasia Bibi, the 45-year-old Christian mother of five sentenced to death by hanging for alleged blasphemy under the Islamic laws introduced by previous military dictator General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. Bibi clashed with fellow labourers while working in a field over their reluctance to share a water bowl with a Christian. Words were exchanged in which, it is claimed, she insulted the Prophet Mohammed. Taseer, who was tortured unmercifully when he bravely campaigned to save Zulfikar Ali Bhutto from Zia-ul-Haq's executioners, was outraged by the sentence imposed on Bibi. He used his office to campaign for the blasphemy laws to be repealed.

Hello Jerry,

Interesting comments for us to ponder there. I do think there is an international dimension to the Korean crisis. Especially in regards China and the USA. However, could you please transfer your comments on Pakistan, the Middle east etc on to a new thread? These are important topics in their own right and worth discussing properly. This thread is already extremely long so I think its important we all remain focused on the core subject i.e. the Korean crisis.
