I'll provide more comments on last nights games when I have chance to think over them some more. I'll run this on the January listing, if it overruns into February, if appropriate.

One thing I will say about last night: Astrologers generally seem to have a good idea when things will happen and usually they do, but not in the manner they think.

Other things for me to ponder: Saturn trine MC in the game start time.

I'm beginning to think exact timings may be a lost cause, so I'm looking at today's 3pm games slightly differently.

The way I'm thinking is that there will be goal-scoring opportunities while a team's sig rules the hour or the MC, or perhaps is received by the planet ruling the hour. Actual goals may be signified by aspects from Arabic parts or planets crossing angles.

Planetary hours are Mars (radical), Sun (non-radical), Venus (radical), Mercury (non-radical). The underdogs may have opportunities of scoring during periods of non-radicality, particularly the Moon teams during the Sun hour (3.15-3.45) because Moon is received by Sun.

MC changes from Pisces to Aries at 3.30. (Asc changes at 3.45.)

Arabic parts - Conquest opp Mars, conj Sun (late); Successful Outcome conj Moon, opp Jupiter; Sudden Advancement trine Mars and Moon. I'm not quite sure about the trines so this will be a bit of a test. Oppositions suggest goals being conceded. These might be via penalties or own goals when the opponents have no opportunities of their own for scoring, e.g. Wigan/Everton.

Sun and Jupiter are above horizon; the others are below. Mars crosses Asc around 4.40. Sun crosses Desc around 4.45.

All timings mentioned are for Birmingham. London will be slightly earlier, Hull earlier still and the north-west slightly later.

I forgot to mention that Part of Death will conjoin Mercury and Sun during the games. Mercury doesn't have a lot going for it anyway but Sun has some positive testimonies and it will be interesting to see whether or not these can 'trump' Death.

I'm wondering, when the planet ruling the hour is below the horizon will it be less effective? Or perhaps being in or out of sect might make a difference?

The question with this chart is whether the Moon so close to the IC proves radicality and victory for the favourite, or whether the Moon opposes the MC is fortunate for the underdog. Pluto lingering around the cusp of the 7th could also be the underdog. Although both contacts are separating. ManC have yet to loose a home match, while Portsmouth have only won one away-game in the premiership this season. However, in terms of risk/reward perhaps the result should be moved away from the favourite and Portsmouth will deliver their uttermost in attempt to survive in the league. POF is sextile Uranus. With the Moon in the first time of Virgo - there's a first time for everything.

I would add that City is strenghten by Cancer, their natural sign (Manchester being ruled by 69) being on the ascendant, and the Moon, their natural significator, being angular.

This counteracts my previous consideration. Maybe the result will be irregular like 4-1 or something?

Re ManC/Portsmouth
With Moon aspecting Jupiter (albeit by opposition) and both planets angular, we might expect a high-scoring game. (The experts are going for City to score 3+ goals.) One would expect Portsmouth to play a defensive, blocking kind of game and the fact they are signified by Saturn would support this. When the hour-ruler changes to Venus about 20 mins into the game, there should be goal-scoring opportunities for both sides.

Arsenal are marginal faves. Chart is radical by triplicity; hour-ruler Saturn is L7. Sun L1 sextile MC; Saturn L7 sextile Asc. Possible draw?

I have noted several things going on at 4.42pm. Sun crosses Desc, hour-ruler changes to Jupiter, Success opposes Saturn and Conquest opposes Mars (red-Arsenal). It will be interesting to see what (if anything!) happens then, just before half-time.

ManC - Portsmouth 2-0
Very ordinary - I would say. Goals in the 40th and 45th minute.

Portsmouth were the better team in the 1st half and ManC's first goal was against the run of play. However, both their goals were scored during the Venus hour (ManC in light blue=Venus) at 2.12pm and 2.18pm

What definition are you using for the Point of Death? I have tried to reproduce your aspects but am getting a different position, so I think my definition must be wrong

It's the Part of Death as listed in Solar Fire and was conjunct Sun at 4.50pm. Not that the exact time is particularly important and it will vary slightly with different house systems anyway, given the formula which is Ascendant + 8th cusp - Moon. To be honest I'm not all that happy with it because it's different from Al Biruni's version which is Saturn + 8th cusp - Moon. I've no idea where SF got their formula from but it seems to be working in these charts so I suppose I shouldn't really knock it
