David Cameron has assumed of the office of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

He entered Buckingham Palace at 20:08 BST. He left Buckingham Palace at 20:35

David Cameron formally signed the document of invitation to form his Majesty's government at 20:35 BST

According to Stephen Birchfield this chart can give us an indication of David Cameron's likely tenure in office. Incidentally, although the Sun is below the descendant it was still full daylight at this time in London so the chart is diurnal. Interesting that the MC ruler is stationary.

David Cameron stood outside 10 Downing Street and made his first speech as British Prime minster at 20:43. Cameron is Britain's youngest Prime Minister for 200 years.

Resigned as PM, resigned as leader of the Labour party, and resigned even as an MP!

Which makes Harriet Harman the temporary leader of the Labour party, a leadership contest will begin immediately, and there'll need to be another local election in Brown's former constituency.

Mark, how will you keep up with the charts? :-)

Yes ...there are a few charts here aren't there? Maybe too many!

Regarding the impending Labour leadership contest I am going to follow Deb's tip and create a separate thread for just data and leave the analysis to another thread. There will not need to be half as many charts I hope. The main problem is going to be getting accurate natal data. Unfortunately, none of the likely contenders are Scottish which would make it easier astrologically. :???:

I dont think we need any astrology for the forthcoming bye election in Gordon Brown's old constituency. Unless the constituency is carpet bombed a new Labour MP is guaranteed.

I would like to round off this extremely long thread by congratulating two of our members: Steven Birchfield and Matt for correctly predicting not only that Gordon Brown would lose but that the subsequent government would be a coalition of the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

Well done both of you. :'

This is more impressive than it sounds as there were numerous potential outcomes to the general election. For example Labour and the Liberal Democrats might have formed a coalition if they had had sufficient seats. Equally, the Conservatives might have formed a government on their own either as a majority or minority government.

I would like to to put up both members posts so that others can take a look at the technique they used. These are certainly worth noting for other members looking at other elections.

Firstly, Matt made our first prediction using the Aries ingress chart. Short and to the point it perfectly described the outcome.
The London Ingress should cover the General Election in the UK. The incumbent ruler is represented by L10 with 21 Gem on MC. Mercury is in the 7th but in Aries whilst the cusp is Pisces so not really angular. Fast in motion but only in the 7th degree from the Sun.

The opposition therefore is L4. IC is 21st degree of Sag. and Jupiter is closer to DSC than Mercury. The DSC is the Derived MC of the 10th so its place here has an advantage over Mercury and is essentially well dignified. Not quite close enough to guarantee outright victory.

Capricorn occupies much of the 4th house so Saturn is co-ruler. He is in the first, retro and opposing mercury and the Sun, natural significator of rulers.

I interpret this as the Conservatives have most votes but not enough MP's for a majority. The Liberals are conservative Saturn in Libra so they go against ther natural instincts to support Labour. So the next government is a Lib-Con coalition.
Steven Birchfield used three methods to successfully predict the outcome of the election. Firstly, a chart based on Brown's accession to office to calculate how long his tenure might be. I have taken the liberty of copying this bit of Steven's post and inserting in the new thread on David Cameron as we have data for his accession to office too. The other charts Steven utlised were the Aries Ingress chart and the close of poll chart. I have quoted Steven's comments on this bit of his post below for members.
Next I looked at the Ingress chart of the year for England. I know it is very common for people to assign the 4th to ?opposing? candidates. However I have never found this thought to be true and secondly all the candidates are in fact a part of the current government and not enemies to the government, which is what the fourth signifies. I believe that the various political parties are denoted by the rulers of the Midheaven. Gemini has no exalted ruler so we have Mercury as the ruler and nocturnal triplicity ruler, Saturn as the diurnal triplicity ruler, and Jupiter participating triplicity ruler. In this scenario I find it far more fitting that Saturn is the conservative party and Jupiter the Liberal Democrats. There are other parties of course but it is these three which generally make or break a majority government.

I then wanted to find the LoY and significator of the ?king? or ruler. There is only one planet suitable for LoY in this chart and that is the Moon. All the other rulers of the Ascendant all fall cadent of the ascendant and in aversion to the ascendant. The Moon is the nocturnal triplicity ruler and the only one aspecting the sign of the ascendant. In fact her aspect is co-present with the ascendant degree. The Moon is also the natural significator of the commonality or general public. She is determined most strongly to signify the people.

It is my judgment that the significator of the ruler is Mercury. It is true in a diurnal chart that the Sun could have this signification but as a rule it only assumed that authority if the ruler or exalted ruler of the Midheaven somehow fell amiss and particularly fell in aversion to the Midheaven. Then if the Sun was well placed and aspected the Midheaven it would assume that role. Otherwise the choice of significators for the ruler was the authority of the ruler of the Midheaven. It did not fall by default to the Sun. I might add that in a nocturnal chart the Moon also had the natural authority to assume the role as significator for the ruler in the same way as the Sun in a diurnal chart.

Now I consider the joining and separations of these significators. The first I noted was that Mercury is VOC. It will not join with Venus until it leaves Aries and the Moon must also change signs before she joins Mercury. I deem him VOC and the signification of that should be obvious. It is separating from the reception by the ruler of its sign and its motion is void. Mercury for me signifies nothing coming to the ruler. The Moon however is joined to Mars and it should be distinguished that she ?beholds? Mars as well. She is also joined to the Sun and Saturn but she does not ?see? them since she is in a sign in aversion to Aries and Libra. I felt this indicated the desire of the people for change (and this would be a radical change from Labour who have ruled for 10 years) and Mars renders the light of the Moon to Saturn as well as the Sun because he does ?see? both. I?ll get to the Sun/Mars signification in a moment. But I see the trine to Saturn as a strong indication of the people towards a conservative government. I also feel one of the strong motivations in this election is going to be the people?s economy which has really suffered. Saturn in its exaltation, must also be noted is the exalted ruler of the 2nd and holds a promise of a better economy for the people being placed in the ascendant by division. But Saturn has its problems also. One, it is opposed to the Sun, ruler of the 12th:

Quote:
?The misfortune of the planets is if they are in conjunction with the malefics or in their opposition or in their quartile or their trine or their sextile ... or if one of the malefics is raised above them in the tenth or in the eleventh place from their place. This is most harmful if the malefic does not receive them ... or is in conjunction with the Sun or in quartile aspect or in opposition. With regard to the weakness of the planets, it is if they are slow in their motion, or in their first station or retrograding.?

While Saturn makes a great promise being in the ascendant and in its exaltation it is made misfortunate and weak and I fear cannot live up to the promise it ?appears? to make. So I am of the opinion the people will give their disposition to a party making a promise that it cannot keep. In fact when the Moon does ?change? signs and is joined to Saturn committing its disposition to Saturn, Saturn will ?return? it to the Moon and the only ?upside? to that return of light is that Saturn is in an angle.

Sahl writes:

Quote:
?The explanation of return is when a planet or the Moon is joined to another planet that is retrograde or under the Sun beams, and it returns to it whatever it receives from it, and it destroys the matter.?

The moons? disposition is corrupted because although Saturn is in an angle by division, it is cadent to the ascendant sign and the Moon is cadent to an angle. It signifies the matters of the people promises to have a beginning but in fact has no beginning and no end, i.e. they come to nothing.

Now looking at the Poll chart Mark produced in the beginning and keeping in mind what the planets signify in the Ingress chart and the election it is quite remarkable that we find Saturn conjunct the Midheaven and Jupiter (also lord of the ascendant here) applying to Saturn and committing its disposition and power to Saturn. That very likely signifies a coalition government between the conservatives and the liberal democrats. We will note that Mercury is once again VOC and now retrograde and falls in the 6th by whole sign and cadent to the Ascendant once again. It is also interesting to note that the Moon is VOC as well.

Those are just a few of my thoughts for what its worth.
They are worth quite a lot wouldn't members agree? This seems to confirm you dont need thousands of charts just good mundane technique!

Outside the Skyscript forum another astrologer who correctly predicted the outcome was Bernadette Brady using her visual astrology method.

http://www.zyntara.com/VisualAstrologyN ... il2010.htm

Although it must be conceded this prediction came quite late.

As for your humble moderator uhmmm. Its back to the drawing board I guess. I will have to revisit how I approach ingress charts. Although i do feel the chart very strongly indicated a coalition government. Just not the political hue I went for! I plan to open a thread soon looking at charts for previous elections and comparing them with ingress charts and checking out how effective they were in reflecting the outcome. I do feel that to be useful a technique needs to produce replicatable success.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this thread and especially those who posted their thoughts here. :'

Now in this chart, Venus(20th degree Leo) made her last aspect, a trine, with Jupiter in Sagittarius(13th degree) - or am I unable to see the obvious, as Steven delineated it :?
Anyway, I would like to know how this would change the delineation; although Jupiter is a natural significator of wealth his accidental significations are quite different.

Hi Goran

As Steven Birchfield's post on this is rather buried earlier in this long thread I have cut and pasted this particular part of his delineation again ie regarding 'length of the ruler rule'.

The first thing I looked at in my considerations was not the Ingress chart. It seemed expedient to me to look first at whether or not there was the chance that Gordon Brown would continue in his authority.

Now the ancients had specific considerations for this question; i.e. the length of a rulers rule. It was in part based on the chart of the time of the rulers? ascension to authority and part on the Ingress chart of the year they acceded to power.

The most important was the actual chart of the rulers? ascension. In Britain I notice there is no formal ?swearing in? ceremony such as they have in the States. Instead, the Queen formally asks the incoming party leader to ?form a government?, which is the first act of a prime minister. The BBC gives the time table for when Gordon Brown formally was asked to form a new government. It says Gordon Brown arrived to the Queen at 13:51 (1:51 pm) on June 27, 2007 and he left the Queen for 10 Downing Street at 14:48 (2:48 pm). Now we don?t know the time the Queen formally asked him to form a government but looking at the charts of the time period there is very little difference in house positions. I have simply chosen the chart of the middle of his time there. I doubt if they sat for an hour chit chatting before the Queen popped the question. The chart is representative for the entire period and is as follows:

Gordon Brown accedes
27 Jun 2007
14:20:00

Midheaven = 23? Cancer 15' 58"
Moon = 00? Sagittarius 28' 45"

There are certain things that Abu Ma?sh?r focuses on. One thing was the nature of the rulers? rule. For this they used a lot called the ?lot of rulership?. Now they often derived this from the chart of the shift of the triplicity indicating a new dynasty. I have derived it from the chart of the rulers? ascension since this is an established political custom that every Prime Minister must go through.

Lot of Rulership for Gordon Brown: based on the chart of his ascension (diurnal)

Asc + Moon ? Mars = 46.2396 (16? Taurus 14? 23?)

I?m not going to go into a complete delineation of the all the things in this chart because I am most interested in the matter concerned with how long he will rule. Some of the things this chart indicates with regards to the nature of his rule are however relevant to the length of his rule.

- Venus is ruler of the lot; beholding the sign of the lot but peregrine.
- the Lot is in the terms of Jupiter and if it was in the term of a benefic, this indicated his use of justice during his rule.

The next two considerations are perhaps more important to the question of his reign:

- Venus is separated from Mars (lord of the 2nd). If the lord of the lot of rulership was separated from the lord of the place of wealth, it indicated his waste of that wealth; in other words, fiscal incompetency having a derogatory effect on the peoples wealth from their livelihoods.
- Venus is joined to Saturn in its detriment (without reception) and indicates his subject?s lack of support for him and the weakness of his rule.

Besides this lot we are also told to particularly look at Jupiter in this chart. And we are told by Abu Ma?sh?r that when Jupiter fell cadent to the chart luminary (and or the ascendant or Midheaven I might add) that his rule will not be successful, and his period is short. In his ascension chart the lord of the Midheaven, the Moon, and the exalted ruler of the Midheaven, Jupiter, are together in Sagittarius (a cadent whole sign) and fall in aversion to both the Midheaven and the chart luminary the Sun. Neither are they joined to a helper or planet in any of the angles rendering their light to the Midheaven and Sun.

Next we?re told particularly to look at Mars in the chart of the ascension and its lord; i.e. Mars and Venus. We are to start counting from Mars, if it is oriental of the Sun, to the Sun and then from the Sun to Venus. From Mars to the Sun is 63? (I?m rounding off here) and from the Sun to Venus is 44? for a total of 107?. Then there is given one year to every 30 degrees. This would give Gordon Brown a rule of 3 years.

I would judge by these considerations that Gordon Brown will not serve a new term but only finish the term of his predecessor.
