PD of planets are still on my to do list.Martin Gansten wrote:Indeed, it is visually impressive (if a little overwhelming for me personally). I wonder about the terminology, though: why say Distributions/Circumambulations rather than (primary) direction? Distribution is Ben Dykes's translation of qisma/divisio, and circumambulation is Robert Schmidt's translation of peripatos; neither has been around very long compared to direction, which is getting on for a millennium now in the western world (and has been used in English for at least 400 years). I regularly get people asking me if I use distributions (or, somewhat less often, circumambulations), and have to explain to them that those are just primary directions by another name. This practice of assigning new 'brand names' to old techniques creates a lot of confusion.
I implemented (on request) also "directions" of other planets using Ascensional Times - which isn't astronomically accurate - so I didn't want to call it "(Primary) Direction".
And I was confused as well, which name should I use for this technique - I was thinking, that Circumambulations are "more" related to using Ascensional Times.
Thanks for clarifying - I didn't know.
I noticed that the timing for the primary directions is off by a few weeks/few months compared to the Delphic Oracle astrology program (I have the primary directions calculated using strictly Hellenistic era settings, including the key of Ptolemy). Is this because its using a different default key? Alternately it might be due to the factor that Martin Gansten brought up. I'm not overly familiar with the calculation of primary directions so I don't know for myself.Martin Gansten wrote: Mon Dec 05, 2022 6:47 pm Oh, I see. Well, if you are not using the classical Ptolemaic style of directing, then I suppose it makes sense to call it something else ('direction by ascensional times' is perhaps a little unwieldy, though it would be the clearest). But you do direct the MC by right ascension rather than oblique? If so, it would seem to be a bit of a mix.
What I have often thought would be useful for traditional-style predictive work, but haven't yet seen any software do, is an animation displaying the natal chart with the terms, the current directed significators of choice, and the current transits.
BTW I apologize if someone has brought this up already, this is a very long thread and I didn't read through all of it. In any case, it's not a major issue, I just wanted to bring it to your attention. I love your website Petr! Thank you, I use it everyday.
