I don't think the octopus picked out Spain before the tournament started though, did he? At least Amelia and I managed to do this and we both used completely different methods. I made a few bob on it, so it appears it was possible to predict the outcome beforehand - even without an octopus!

Indeed. Full kudos to both you and Amelia! I think its best to make your mind up before the forum discussions start influencing you. I confess I wanted to believe Andrew's horary prediction as it seemed to reinforce my incorrect hunches. Plus I always want Brazil to win! Still, looking at the mundane charts Spain was a strong favourite. I must go back through the first thread and see what reasons you gave for picking them.

Did you put any money on England too or was that just understandable national loyalty coming through on your part?

One of the astrological highlights of the tournament, in my opinion, was some of the work that went on around the quarterfinals (page 2&3 of this thread) and that Ficina summed up on July 1:

I think most people would like their national team to do well but where betting is concerned the astrology comes first, so no I didn't put any money on England. In fact I opposed England (betting-wise) in their first two games because the charts just didn't show them winning.

Andrew, thanks for picking up on that. The Jupiter/Uranus conjunction which occurred just before the tournament started was a very useful clue in several respects, particularly regarding the Germany/Argentina game. However, I didn't spot the Holland/Brazil upset, so kudos to Janis for that one.

I think the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction (in opposition to Saturn, although OOS) highlights the fact that we wouldn't be able to count on a 'traditional' winner to go through, but as several others have mentioned, something "new, exciting, and different" (Aries ingress + Uranus) would emerge...

Someone posted earlier on this thread (I think) that Brazil and Argentina were always the 'fall-back' choices when no other team choice stood out, because Brazil and Argentina (but especially Brazil) have traditionally had strong teams, who almost always made it through to at least the quarter-finals, and in the case of Brazil, almost always even further than that.

This didn't turn out to be the case this time around! As Ficina mentioned, the astrology doesn't care whether they're your favourites or traditionally considered the best, or not! I haven't had a look at the 'start of the tournament' chart yet, but it will be very interesting to keep as a comparison for future World Cups! This has been a very exciting World Cup to watch; certainly more full of surprises and upsets than most of us expected.

Many thanks to all, who appreciated my job and contribution. I tried to participate in analysing the charts as much as possible. I must admit I was inconsistent in my judgements, but I have been experimenting without any foreknowledge how to read sports charts. In fact, I am satisfied with my progress.

In order to improve the reliability of prediction, we need to elaborate a comprehensive system how to read such cards (which indicators should be given preference, and so in order, which are minor and can be disregarded). I love if all would participate with their contribution. Otherwise judgement is too contradictory and incomplete.

In a couple of weeks I will have managed to draw the table of essential and accidental dignities, including of outer planets and their impact on seven visible ones. Of course, there could be imperfections and I hope that you will help avert them.

I admire your motivation to sharpen our techniques. I will be following up some personal research too. However, I think it would be extremely difficult to agree an astrological consensus. Its a noble aspiration but practically exceptionally challenging. I dont know what your perception is but I think astrologers are a very individualistic lot.

As Ficina has commented a few times its interesting how totally different techniques can be applied to the same astrological issue. I do think its important to keep an open mind and discard what doesn't work for us. However, we all draw our inspiration differently. I am currently getting a lot inspiration from hellenistic astrology and its techniques. However, thats just me. I dont expect others to necessarily follow. Equally, I am keen to bring in mundane techniques where they are applicable. On the other hand I dont personally plan to start pointing outer planets in a dignity sense. I will be interested in your ideas nonetheless. Thats not a criticism of your suggestion. I am just motivated by a different take on things. I therefore have a lot time for the idea of 'unity in diversity'. We are all different. However, lets come together to share what we feel works for us. In some ways its the diversity of approaches that makes this fun.
