I for one have some difficulty understanding the logic behind malefics negating each other's indications when in aspect. Is this the case only with squares? What about oppositions, trines and sextiles?

Thank you Steven for the clarity of your reply; things make more sense now. I was already using the malefic's domicile or exaltation as a "mitigating" factor in analyzing difficult aspects.

Looking at the symbolically profected (Pauline method) Coakley natal, the indications (which I notice) in the profected chart (year-to-month-to-day) for January 19th 2010 lead me to "predict" her defeat in the special election on that date.

(Note: I do not do "predictions" as a general rule {I use astrology primarily to discover and understand the hidden underlying macrocosmic influences at work in a situation or health condition} however, there have been numerous postings lately on various threads in the Philosophy section and in the Mundane section which are so insistent upon prediction determining the value of astrological investigation, that I decided to make this predictive post, and I shall make several more in the future: we'll see how well my little divinations work, but I for one do not accept the idea that the validity of astrology as a whole rests only-or even primarily-upon foretelling the future...)

Where did you find out he was born in Wrentham, Mass? Some sources state he was born in Wakefield, Mass. I personally went down to the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and Statistics, and there was no Scott P. Brown born in 1959 in Wakefield or Wrentham Massachusetts. Perhaps he was born in a different state?

-based upon a chart erected for the time of 1st media projection of Brown's victory, I find testimony of delay, secret enemies and institutional machinations (12th house & Saturnian matters) in the chart, therefore my 2nd prediction is:

"Controversy surrounding delay of Brown's swearing in and seating in the U.S. Senate will soon be reported in the media."

So does this render my second "prediction", about controversy over delay in Brown taking office, incorrect? It was a 12th house based "prediction", house of hidden things, secret enemies, etc. No, I hold that my little prediction was validated, but not in the way I thought of when I made it!

-turns out there was an attempted delay, but it was Scott Brown himself who wanted to delay taking office!
-Brown's desire for delay (of at least 1 week, if not longer, according to reports in the news media) caused "controversy" within the leadership of his political party, and they pressured him to take office as soon as possible (1 week prior to when he originally wanted to be sworn in)

So, there was an issue of delay, and one of "controversy" over it, reported in the media; however, the delay came from Brown himself (not from "secret enemies") and the (mild, short-lived) "controversy" was within his own ranks! This outcome emphasizes to me that when considering the 12th house we mustn't always-or even usually- consider its testimony to refer primarily to "outside" hidden forces/antagonists, etc; it can also testify to an inner "secret" (unobvious or unexpected) causal influence, motivation, etc. Who would have thought that Brown would want to delay his own taking office? Yet, according to the media, he did in fact desire this and only changed his intended course to satisfy his party leaders and supporters by moving up his swearing in.

No one, which is why the media reports are a distortion and Brown was forced to threaten legal action to get the election certified while the Senate leadership pretended they had nothing to do with it. If you're looking for 12th house stuff and secret enemies, look to the US Senate leadership and the administration using their pal, the governor of Massachusetts, to delay the Brown's seating as long as possible.
