It makes a lot of sense if you're in international waters with cameras all over your boat knowing you're broadcasting the event around the world!

Mark, no offence intended by this but there is no source for 'local time'. The source you quoted did not give the time zone, you just assumed it must be local time, but apparently you hadn't seen my earlier post referring to the map which gave GMT and mentioned the IDF attack. So far that is the only source we have that pinpoints a time a location and that mentions the attack.

The ship was broadcasting GPS coordinates, don't you think that makes sense, to do it in Universal Time? Especially when in international waters, that is to say, outside national time zones. Why would the people on six different boats use a land-based 'local time' when they broadcast their position? Whose land would they use? They are moving!

In any case that map and the pin on it is the best source we have. The media don't zone in on the information that we astrologers want. News outlets are frenetic places full of wrong information and lack of fact-checking. For the time being that map is the most independent, most direct source data that we have got. Until it is proven wrong it must stand as the most reliable source to quote.

Seems you are right.

Here is a Guardian article giving the time as 4.30am GMT. Although this totally contradicts earlier reports by the BBC and AFP stating the attack beginning around 2.00am GMT. Also the Flotilla set off from Cyprus which has the same time zone as Gaza/Israel. However, you do have a good point about Universal time for International waters. Anyway...

Here is the relevant bit:

Over the next few hours as the Israeli ships circled, the flotilla issued a series of brief messages through their spot locator, a telecommunications device which charted their progress on a web site.

"This is a HELP message," it said at 12.30am. "We have been contacted by the Israelis but are still fine, don't worry."

Shortly afterwards another states: "Challenger 2 [one of the boats] contacted by Israeli Defence Force radio A/O approached by IDF ships", and another: "Going ahead". Three more "OK" signals between 1.30am and 2.30am were then replaced at 4.30am by a red exclamation mark stating: "Last position before IDF attack. 04:30 GMT, Latitude:32.64113, Longitude:33.56727" ? around 70 miles from the coast of northern Israel and 90 miles from Gaza.The assault had been under way for at least 30 minutes, according to Dr Arafat Madi, one of the European organisers of the convoy who spoke to the activists by satellite phone shortly afterwards
