A painful transition perhaps but maybe the beginning of a new genuinely multi-party Parliament that better reflects the real political diversity in the United Kingdom? The first past the post system has successfully kept a lid on this diversity for decades with only the Liberal Democrats breaking through. For example with proportional representation the Greens would currently get something like 30-40 parliamentary seats and UKIP 80-90 seats. I suspect Labour and the Conservatives will still stubbornly resist electoral reform. They both simply have too much to lose. Still, lt looks like the old ossified tripartite party politics has had its day.

Yes the good old days for Labour in Scotland when votes could be weighed rather counted are long gone. The end of Scotland as a Labour fiefdom has been clear since the Scottish Parliament election of 2011 when the SNP won a landslide majority.

Ironically, despite being on the winning side in the Independence referendum, it is the Labour party, not the SNP who have been politically damaged since many Scots saw them as being hand in hand with the Conservatives in the Better Together Campaign. That is political hemlock in Scotland.

If I remember right you said it would a No in the referendum but the issue would not be resolved and would soon be back. I am tending to think that the SNP will not be sitting round the table at number 10 but do they want to ? I may have made a joke about Scottish independence making England " a nation once again" but it is not looking so funny now

for the record i stated i thought the yes side in the scot referendum would win, and that the leader of that campaign - alex salmond was on an upward trajectory professionally.. while that didn't happen, it seems like his goal of greater recognition for scotland has succeeded in a round about way.. not immersed in uk politics, it is hard for me to get a proper feel for what is happening but i appreciate the exchanges here for broadening my understanding.

i looked at clegg and farage's charts last night.. i tried to get on the forum last night, but was unable to for some reason.. so here are some of my thoughts this morning on the possible success of these 2 political leaders.

nick clegg's 530pm chart has a nice moon rising trine jupiter in leo.. to me that has a positive feel to it for a politician. the moon is involved in this config too, but further away from the ascendant degree as well.. the sun/mars square would seem more problematic or pugnacious but either way jupiter as ruler of the ascendant in leo in the 8th or 9th house of the chart also has an emphasis on showboat politics to it as well..might or might not work so well in uk politics.. this is a return in the profection chart to the ascendant sag as well which i think is positive. after that is pretty much more of a negative picture i get off the solar return chart, transit data and etc.. i don't like how saturn/neptune is on the angles of the solar return chart or the t saturn on his moon come may 7th.. none of that looks positive to me. the natal sun/mars square gets caught up in the location of this same saturn/neptune square via it's position in the solar arc data as well.. so i would say net negative for clegg in spite of some immediate positives outlined at the beginning..

nigel farage has the best astro data of all the charts i have looked at so far.. while none of these charts give a 'winner' feel to them, farages chart comes the closest.. there seemed to be enough positives to push the chart ahead of cameron in terms of astro positives.

the very close trine in the transit chart of jupiter to farages sun is very positive. it would have been nicer if it had lined up with the angles as well, but one can't have everything.. it does line up fairly well in the solar return chart and with the angles in the sr chart as well.. the same saturn/neptune square is unfortunately in the vicinity in both the transit and solar return chart as well, so more mixed bag feel as a consequence.. t moon is in a lunar return and in farages chart one notes the close trine of moon to jupiter so net positive. i think what tips the scale for me to positive with farage is the position of transiting mercury - 7 gemini - so close to the midheaven angle.. mercury is the ruler of his ascendant and also on an angle in the solar return chart. the solar return chart has 4- 5 - or 6 planets on the angles which speaks of an important year and net positive given the overall feel/position of the planets to angles..

the profection data for farage has sag ascendant - so jupiter position in the charts takes greater significance.. jupiter is also the ruler of the solar return ascendant, placed in a trine to the ascendant in the sr chart, although retro in a night chart.. it is conjunct mercury in the natal chart while mercury as i noted is conjunct the midheaven in the transit chart and on the ic in the solar return chart - collectively positive for the most part as i see it. natal mercury is in an out of sign conjunction with jupiter - 4 1/2 degrees.. one could just look at the transit chart and get a positive feel off the timing of this election and farages chart, but the other charts back it up to a good extent too..

basic overview on my collected posts here so far - i have done 4 candidates - farage has the best set up followed by cameron.. milibrand and clegg are somewhere noticeably below that.. i will get to the others in the next few days.

nicola sturgeon,

this is the only leader who we have an accurate birth time for which makes any comment on the angles more relevant.. the general overview i get is very positive, perhaps more so then nigel farages chart which i commented on earlier..general question - are women in politics less common in the uk then elsewhere in the west?

her natal chart has some obvious positives to it - ascendant ruler mars, conjunct the midheaven ruler sun making this conjunction in her chart especially important in terms of public recognition/success and how the data overlap with it. saturn in the 7th in the commanding position to those leo planets is also a favourable set up for someone who will be taken seriously and is quite determined and serious in whatever she does commit herself to. it is perhaps slightly offset by the wide opposition to neptune with this opposition squaring onto the midheaven axis.. the close square of moon in aquarius to the ascendant will give her a certain public popularity, although i suspect increase her need for privacy too.. in opposition to the mars/mercury is a mixed bag - probably the potential for having to separate her more logical verses subjective or intuitive impressions might create some periodic conflict which might also come out in public.. i say this due the opposition of mercury and the moon which have direct association on the persons thought process.. either way the mind is coloured by the mars in leo - ruler of the ascendant, which in turn is in an out of sign conjunction to her sun in cancer. this conjunction in turn is square the 12th house jupiter in libra.. that's an interesting pattern i am going to with hold commenting on for now..

in her solar return one notes the conjunction of jupiter on the same degree as her natal mars - ruler of the ascendent and 4 degrees of conjunct natal sun ruler of 10th.. this suggests something quite positive in itself as i see it.. the sr ascendant is conjunct her natal mercury in the 10th house area and of course goes back to this important mercury/moon opposition conversation, as it is again highlighted in the sr 2014 return.. in fact, the sr moon is exactly opposite natal jupiter while sr mars is conjunct jupiter - so this square involving sun/mars to jupiter is very strongly highlighted in the sr chart via moon/jupiter/mars and sun... all in all - net positive as i see it, although maybe a bit too much of everything and a bit too much for her to be thrown into the limelight and having many different energies coming at you from all directions. i suspect it is no different for any of the others, but it seems to impact her chart in a more significant way then the rest.. sr midheaven at 14 aries is conjunct uranus at 16 - same place as the lunar eclipse... the sr chart has a nice mercury/neptune trine at 7 water - trine her 7 degree scorpio ascendant..

the profection chart has cancer ascendant highlighting her natal moon and sun given sun is in cancer in the 9th roughly speaking.. i'm really not sure how much to weigh profections, or whether to give more emphasis to the chart based on setting the profection up for her birthdate or for the time of the may 7th election where everything has changed and moved on.. i see a lot of interesting connections - venus in taurus on the descendant in the profection chart for july 19 - 2014.. profection ascendant at 7 cancer, right where the water trine of mercury/neptune is in the solar return chart and etc. etc..

in the solar arc direction data, the natal 45 between mercury and pluto is rather highlighted.. i tend to think of this aspect as the with holding of info, or having knowledge that is with held for questionable reasons, or to gain an upper hand.. all politicians must be cutting behind the scene deals of sorts, but our society has gotten so far removed from the idea of democracy where i see it as more of a corporate take over of the political process.. i don't know how this plays in the role of any of these politicians but it is something i would wonder about in regards the solar arc and natal config here in sturgeons chart.. the same 45 between these two planet is found in david camerons chart fwiw.. the sa midheaven trines her natal moon and highlights the moon/uranus trine - a positive.. sa jupiter makes an exact trine to her natal mercury in the 9th/10th area too - another positive.. i do try to lap this data back to the other charts to look for further confirmation and emphasis on something.. nothing in particular stands out in this regard, other then the sa ascendant at 6 libra 59 here being squared by mercury in the solar return chart and of course the profection chart which highlights 7 cancer as well.. greater emphasis on mercury which in turn rules the 11th and 8th of her natal scorpio chart and natal mercury in the 9th/10th house area are about it..

minor prog data is very positive here too from my own pov.. i didn't look at this for the other charts as i wasn't as committed to the times offered on them! here is what an overlap of her natal chart with the minor progs looks like.. i will look at robinsons chart in the next short while..

I was looking forward to your views on Nicola Sturgeon. In answer to your question the proportion of women in the House of Commons has increased over the last few years but from a low base. I gather there is a mens' club atmosphere with sexism rife. If I were a woman I would not wish to work there. I daresay if Nicola went there she would not put up with it but she has previous FM Alex Salmond carrying on like he is still in charge. she is FM of the Edinburgh Legislature not a Westminster MP.
This means making predictions on her fame and status is tricky. Failure in one capital could still mean success in the other

since we are working with a day chart for peter, the moon can be anywhere from about 20 sag to 3 cap - dependent on the time of day he was born.. he is one of 3 capricorn suns involved in this election process with nicole - a sun in cancer, cameron - sun in libra and farage - sun in aries.. all suns in cardinal signs! i am going to go back and look at these charts from a few different angles later, but for now - peter robinson.

transit data on the day of the election to his chart has possible lunar return, t sun/pluto trine at his mercury/neptune square, t uranus/pluto square also at this mercury/nep square, t mars trine his natal mars, t neptune 60 jupiter, t mercury opposite venus, t jupiter 3 degree conjunction to natal pluto and maybe a few other things i missed..

natal jupiter/mercury conjunction in his chart ( farage has the same) is in a wider orb - 7 or 8 degrees, and connects well in the solar arc directions back to his natal chart - sa jupiter 60 mercury and sa mercury 60 natal mars.. perhaps the most interesting solar arc direction is sa uranus which will conjunct his saturn in the next year.. see my note below on his chart for why i think this is significant..

i don't see much merit in looking at the solar return or profection data without an approx birth time for him..

i like his chart though for a few reasons. the jupiter/saturn trine which catches his sun would seem to be a net positive for someone involved in politics.. this is where the solar arc direction of uranus to saturn in the next year is especially interesting and potentially positive. perhaps it reflects some of the changes in the uk political process too which i don't fully understand..

the chart appears to lack water.. however neptune is prominent as it is the dominating planet over the cluster of planets in cap.. the square from mercury to neptune would indicate some fuzzy thinking, offset a bit perhaps with saturn in virgo, but amplified another way with the mercury/jupiter conjunction even if in cappy..

the scandal involving his wife mentioned for january 2010 is interesting as one can note the solar arc jupiter and sun running thru the area of the venus/saturn square in his chart.. relationship problems are always possible with the venus/saturn square.. 2010 had saturn in libra for the most part. i like a noon time chart which gives aries rising as this would put this saturn transit in the 7th house area to go along with the solar arc direction data.. but that is highly speculative on my part! he seems to have been resolved of any legal problems with this as i understand.

The UK comes in fairly low at only 22.8% of the House of Commons women. The USA is even lower with its main lower house the House of Representatives only 19.4% female. Canada isn't all that high either at 25.2%.

The Scottish Parliament is 35% female. Roughly in line with Germany. This is likely to increase at the next Scottish elections in 2016 as the SNP, under Nicola Sturgeon, have just controversially decided to designate many constituences as female only SNP shortlists to improve gender representation in the party for the 2016 Scottish Parliament Election. At present three of the party leaders in the Scottish Parliament are women. After the 2016 election this will probably lead to Scotland having female parliamentary representation over 40% similar to most Scandanavian countries.

A disinterested view may help us here. I think my last post to this effect did not go through but looking at your assessments they look promising whereas I might have a prejudice here that clouds judgements. All women shortlists were a Labour plan for choosing election candidates a while ago and were not considered a good idea at the time but neverless the female representation Mark mentions could be promising. I reckon that the Lord of the year for UK is Venus so women could be important for us this year. One must not express opinions but in any case I cannot vote for Angela Merkel anyway so we are probably left with a choice between two men. Maybe their wives can knock some sense into them cos in the event of a pact or coalition male combative attitudes may not be much good

thanks matthew and mark for the interesting comments on the topic of women and matthew for mentioning some possible astro connected to it.. i thought it was interesting how sturgeon is the only women and the astro seems most positive for her. i also noticed matthew you mentioned about thinking farage had jupiter on the midheaven in some future? solar return in the other thread on farage.. i projected a solar return for farage into 2016 - looks good, but no jupiter on the midheaven.. sturgeon has the transit of jupiter to her midheaven for 2015 though, but it isn't in effect until a few months after the may 17th election..

James - My statement about Jupiter in Farage's chart was qualified by (I think from memory) and was an error but the mood of the debate was that he had no chance anyway so no harm done I hope. in the meantime will look at the SR for Nicola Sturgeon. It looks more promising but I like the look of Venus with the king star as well as Jupiter. Do not worry abut the date. Politicians are criticised for "short-termism" but we take a long view

My first impressions of her radix is to see Venus in Virgo in the tenth. This symbolism makes me think of her Majesty Elizabeth I dubbed the virgin queen. She is close to the nodal axis and the dragon's head is in the 4th in Pisces. The recent eclipse was more seen to the North of Britain and I believe that Pisces will have significance for Scotland at this time. Mars is in a fiery sign in the ninth showing us her fierce ideology.

Whatever happens in the UK election with fixed angles in her chart she bwill be around yet awhile to restore pride to her nation

a brief look at her SR 2014 shows Leo on the ascendent so ninth house matters of beliefs are the big issue. Ruler Sun is square to Mars conj NN so difficult challenges. Retro Saturn in scorpio does not help. I think of how she has been under the shadow of former FM Alex Salmond. 12th house ruler Moon is conj SN in the 10th so something prevents her achievements this year

A member of my Association (Nicholas Grier) wrote an article on the election earlier this year that appeared in the UK Astrological Journal. Nick strongly suggests a second spell for Cameron as PM largely based on the close of poll chart and transits of the leading players.

Overall I feel the weight of astrological opinion seems to be leaning towards Cameron leading as Prime Minister again.

So this is maybe a good time to ask if anyone takes a divergent view and thinks Miliband will be Prime Minister?
