I spent the whole day at the casino, with ups and downs but the trine from JU to SA had more ups than downs. Otherwise, without the trine, it would be useless to engage in such activity.

Back in 2008, I did not have a full grasp of what the aspects meant.
I was led to believe that any aspects you have by transits to your natal chart and midpoints the luckier you are. What I have found is that it is much easier when the diurnal shows soft aspects to your natal or diurnal. Otherwise, you can transform yourself into sort of a Mephisto letting the adrenalin flow without any control. It is a choice.

Afterthought:
Astrologers will debate on the value of 'soft' or 'hard' aspects in winning.
The truth is that you need all of them but in different dosage.
Having learned midpoints early in my studies, I was full hard aspects to shake the lucky pot. But too much of it can lead to an oversized ego, as these aspects generate energy and action. They are asking your willpower to engage in the world.
And why do we call the trine a 'lucky aspect'? My theory, and it is very debatable, is that trines (and sextiles in general) do not function with willpower. They are 'connected' to the astral world, the Gods, the sky, the planets and they require more an act of 'consciousness'. You just need to connect with it and enjoy the ride.

This diurnal shows that you can win with squares to your natal chart but nothing to get excited about.

A closer look at the transits says it would be better to wait the following day when the MO will make a trine to transiting JU in diurnal 5th/natal 8th and ruling the diurnal 2nd House.
But I was working and I was not fully aware of the power of diurnals.

On May 31, 1975, the diurnal AS is making a trine to his ruler UR in diurnal 9th/natal 8th.
And transiting MA ruling his natal 2nd House is trine his natal MC/diurnal 11th - He had to appear on TV.
She also mentioned that the square from SA to JU prevented him from winning a larger sum.

Time chosen was when the AS was in trine to his natal JU-UR and the MO on the cusp of the 8th.
Sophia Mason uses a lot the MO when selecting event charts for winning.
My own experience, and it is limited in terms of buying lottery tickets, says that if you want to go for a big jackpot, you need to work around your 2nd/8th House cusp (Topocentric) and Fortuna. The transits to this axis, especially looking at transiting JU by conjunction, sextile or trine to this axis.
And see also the aspect patterns you have in relationship to this axis as well as the midpoints for additional clues.
For example in my chart I have a partile aspect with MC sitting in between a sextile to UR and the 8th House cusp. It sounds pretty much like using astrology in money matters.
I also have a Yod with NE/PL = 8th House. An activity under the radar screen and the uncertainty and a desire to connect power and the mysteries of the universe.

Angular distance is used as a measure between stars or points on the celestial sphere.
Kepler believed that they are paramount in the geometry of the sky.

Sensitive points
Using a blank chart provided by Deborah Houlding, let's draw the sensitive points of personal points and Jupiter to the 2nd/8th House axis for our example chart of Bill Shoemaker.
As you can see, JU at 7 Leo has a sensitive point at 13 Can equidistant from the 8th House cusp.
8th House = JU/13 Can
The MO at 11 Sco, sensitive point at 9 Ari.
8th House = MO/9 Ari
And so on for all other points or stars in his chart.
A transit to a sensite point provides a midpoint structure.

Midpoints
The midpoint MO/8th falls at 18 Virgo and he has MER at 19 Vir in opposition to MC at 17 Pis.
He thinks a lot about money (self-talk) and is able to make a lot of flexible and changing observations in his career, day-to-day fluctuations in his earnings.
He also has MA/JU=2/8th House which is one of luckiest midpoint if you have it in this axis. These are the self-made persons financially, like Henry Ford another one with this midpoint in this axis.
Witte says "Joyous happenings. Fortunate deed. Joy of work. Fortunate accomplishments. Work or activity for justice or money."

Transits
Now, let's say that JU is transiting to a midpoint or sensitive point, you can judge the quality of the transit in a more concise way.
As astrologers, we are trained to look at ptolemaic aspects.
Here we would say that there is a wide square from FOR to the 8th House and a wide trine between the MC and the 8th House. But we would be missing additional information about this chart.

So when you look at your 2nd/8th House axis, the angular distances can provide a better view in the analysis of the chart.

The MO is travelling in the natal 5th and is heading to a conjunction to PL. This looks good!

I also note transiting ME (ruling my natal 1/2) in opposition to transiting SA in diurnal 5th and ruling diurnal 8th/natal 5th. This one showed a problem with my accountant not filing in my report properly and not getting an expected refund.

The examples I am showing up here are real-time applications of astrology.
But I have not fully mastered the art of synthesis yet.
A true system or application would need to incorporate
1) A bi-wheel with natal and diurnal.
2) The aspects of the day to natal and diurnal (planets and houses) and only those aspects. Orb to be determined, starting from 1 degree.
Sophia Mason says that only exact aspects are considered but I have seen it starting to work around 30 minutes (This is my personal preference) and even the effects past the exactness.
3) Time during the day when the planets become Angular or when they cross a House cusp including natal AS and MC.
4) A tri-wheel with Progressions or Directions? Not sure, it would clutter the reading but at least a notification if something happens at that level. Say for example, the SU transits your natal UR and you have progressed JU right there, this would enhanced your chances to win a larger jackpot buying a lottery ticket.
5) The 7 Hermetic Lots in the chart for further testing. Right now, I have seen evidences with Fortuna and to a lesser degree with the Part of Victory (the Part of Jupiter) but I have not incorporated them enough.
6) A timeline of midpoints for the day and when they encounter the AS, MC, A/M, Planet/AS and Planet/MC.

Gambling with diurnals is one way to look at them. But they show much more. For example, if you have the ruler of your 2nd House contacting a planet in your 6th House, you may very well decide to buy a new kitchenware or a tool for gardening. Don't gamble your shirt at the casino!
When I first started to investigate what was happening when I won (I was working with midpoints), I would return home right away to check out the chart configuration. But I was always trapped 'in the moment', not being able to make a difference between a 'moment' and a 'lucky day', which is what diurnals brought me.

And I have seen all kind of theories predicting 'lucky days'.
- Using only exact aspects to specific aspects in your chart. (Some truth to this!)
- Using only specific aspects (hard or soft) or using all of them including minor ones. (The more the better? Not really. As I mentioned, no aspects = you loose hard aspects = you win and loose soft aspects = you win... if they are related to money houses.)
- Using highly sophisticated sets of divisions and sub-divisions that are time-consuming.
- Using Joyce Wehrman's system. I did! But unpractical at the race track. A natal planet has to be on a House cusp within 30 minutes of longitude, which equates to about 1 minute of time and try that at the race track when almost all races are delayed for all kinds of reasons. But she did point out rightfully that hard aspects can make you win. They don't deny.
- Using names for planets Angular. I once bet on a long-shot horse called 'Heavenly Fish' when Jupiter was right on the AS in Pisces! But it was too easy with this one. Most of the time, you will need a master degree in linguistic, history, mythology and you name it to decipher the meaning and the subtleties in the names of a horse. Not to mention the new asteroids which may conjunct the AS and are bringing a whole set of potential names.
- Using the theory of Diogenes by 'looking for an honest man' and carrying a lamp around to find out the truth in gambling but most likely ending up in Sinope for debasement of currency.

Buddha said 'Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth'. Regardless of lack of understanding, disbelief or ignorance.
It all comes down to my first question when I first got interested by this subject. What do I see? Most of the time, emptiness. The truth must be somewhere in there.

Following up on the last post, the sextile from SA to natal VE was still effective with some different aspects on the following day, Nov 27th. It shows a mix of diurnal change and similarities from one day to another.

Now, transiting VE (diurnal AS/natal 5th and ruling diurnal 5th) is making a trine to transiting JU ruling my diurnal AS.
The MO has advanced to form a conjunction to PL and will trine MA in diurnal 9th/natal 1st and oppose natal JU-ME and square the diurnal MC later in the day.

Taurus rising not doing much by aspect (although conjunct FOR) nor from VE the ruler but
JU ruling diurnal and natal 8th is sextile natal ME ruling diurnal and natal 2nd and AS. And the orb is tight.
This is one of the best combination I have found because both planets are conjunct in my chart. Aspects to or from ME or JU to my natal ME or JU.
