The Duke of Bordeaux: August 2-9, 1830 named Henry V, King of France Continued 37 by janegca Bordeaux-Aspects-Age 9.png Viewed 7230 times 96.85 KiB The T-square was reinforced in both the maiora and minora esse. In the profected chart, the Moon rules the 3rd of travel. The radix 3rd contains Mars, ruler of the profected 12th, radix 9th (foreign places), and 4th (home, grandfather); it was also active on all three levels of direction and critical in the maiora esse. That the moment marked a critical turning point in the life is shown by the node and the Lot of Honor being critical in the minora esse with the minora ascendant conjunct the radix north node. His life went on and his situation was not radically changed, he remained the last of the Bourbon line and the legitimate heir to the throne even though he did not sit on it. Interestingly, he had two more opportunities to take the throne. Quote Fri Aug 25, 2023 6:30 pm
The Duke of Bordeaux: September 2, 1870 – Offered the throne 38 by janegca In September of 1870 the Duke was again offered a chance to sit on the throne of France. He ultimately refused as the government would not meet his demand to replace the revolutionary tri-color flag with the original fleur-de-lis flag of France. The Age Arc is approximately 49º56' which puts the profection in the 2nd whole sign, Virgo, with Mercury as the domicile ruler but once again, Jupiter takes over as Lord of the Year as he is, in the radix, in partile opposition to the radix 2nd house cusp. This puts the profected Asc at 15 Virgo. Jupiter is also inconjunct the radix Lot of Vocation but without mitigation, so truly averse, while the directed Lot of Vocation (25 Ge) in the profected 10th is in opposition to radix Uranus in the radix 4th. The offer was possibly unexpected, it was made after France lost the Prussian-Franco war and the French royalists took over the government. The directed Lot of Kingship is conjunct radix Mars (ruler of the profected 8th) which is sitting in the profected 2nd in opposition to the profected 8th of inheritance. Directed Mars is in opposition to Pluto in the profected 7th. As Mars rules the profected 8th and 3rd there were probably a number of arguments going on, possibly involving his wife (7th) but more likely, with Pluto, to involve coercive groups. The directed 11th (Gemini), ruled by Mercury (ruler of the sign on the profected Asc) is critical at 29 Aries with Aries on the profected 8th. The 11th holds the Moon and the directed Moon is conjunct radix Saturn while inconjunct directed Death as directed Death is inconjunct radix Saturn. Possibly he feared acceptance might invite attempts on his life? There are a number of supporting aspects in both the maiora and minora esse. There are unmitigated aversions at all three levels and ultimately the Duke refused the offer for an unusual reason. Given the directed Moon/Saturn conjunction and the connections to the 7th can't help but wonder if his wife had a role in his decision just as his mother did when he was a child. Or, are the pair acting according to their mundane significations given this was a matter of state? The people (Moon) caused him to lose (Saturn) his birthright (8th)? That he did have an interest in the crown is evidenced by a third attempt at obtaining it. Quote Fri Aug 25, 2023 6:39 pm
The Duke of Bordeaux: November 1873 – Another attempt at the throne 39 by janegca In 1873 Henri travelled to Paris in a last attempt to take the throne, it failed, again, over the flag and on November 20, 1873 the French National Assembly confirmed a chief of state who would hold office for seven years. He was 53 at the time, the Profection was in the 6th whole sign from the Ascendant, Capricorn. Pluto is partile sextile the cusp of the radix 6th so the profected Asc is in 27 Capricorn with Pluto as Lord of the Year. Bordeaux-Prof-Age-53-with-PD.png Viewed 7227 times 64.98 KiB The radix 6th is ruled by a fallen Saturn in the 8th with Pluto (by house, not sign) who is acting as the Lord of the Year. In the profected chart, Pluto is in the 2nd in opposition to the 8th. The 6th is usually related to illnesses, work, employees; in mundane matters it rules the civil service, which appears to apply in this case; the civil government acted to deny Henri the crown and approve a Chief of State in his place. As a result, he lost (Saturn) his inheritance and related property (2nd, 8th). Directions The maiora and minora esse are based on November 20th, the day the government approved a Chief of State. By direction, Venus, the domicile ruler of the radix 10th is square radix Saturn while directed Saturn trines the radix Sun and is involved in a mitigated inconjuction (having the power of an opposition) with the radix Moon indicating both his desire to be king (trine Sun) and the loss of his inheritance (Saturn in radix 8th) and hopes (Moon in 11th) in that direction. Pluto, Lord of the Year, is not active by direction although he is involved in mitigated semi-sextiles in both the maiora and minora esse with the focus on Marriage and Fortune. Pluto implies he has little to no control over the event which will ultimately determine whether or not he occupies the throne. He appears to have thrown away his best chance at doing so in 1870 which may well be what a peregrine Venus, ruler of the 10th, in the Ascending sign in the 12th has been signalling especially as she is the exaltation ruler of Pisces which occupies the 8th of inheritance and is in an unmitigated inconjunction to the 8th house Piscean planets but trine the 8th house retrograde, fallen Saturn. The Three Attempts That these were public matters is shown by Aquarius and Pisces on the 7th and 8th house cusps, both of which have to do with situations motivated by the larger environment rather than the individual himself or their companions. Aquarius, being a fixed sign on the 7th, indicates a stable environment, one likely to last throughout the life and the matter of who should rule France was a long standing contentious issue. Pisces, a mutable sign on the 8th indicates a situation that will change more than once and there were three opportunities to fulfil the promise of the Duke's inheritance. Saturn in Aries (tropical), ruler of the 7th in the 8th, points to new contentious ways to lose his inheritance; the first because his mother and grandfather chose exile over leaving him on his own in Paris, the second because he could not agree with the government on the flag, and finally, the third time when the civil government decided not to have a king. Thoughts on the Lots The number of times the Lot of Death (Saturn + 8th – Moon) and the Lot of Marriage (Asc + 7th – Venus) came up in these directions has got me thinking that they are perhaps generic rather than specific lots; especially as they are based on the house cusps and are the same by day and night. They might actually be related to all 8th and 7th house matters rather than purely “death” and “marriage”. The Duke does not appear to be have had his life or his marriage threatened on all these occasions; it was the people (Moon) of France who removed the royals from the throne, causing the Duke to lose (Saturn) his inheritance (8th), and that involved him in property (Venus) disputes (7th). The profection was in the 3rd sign, Libra. No directed planet is in a partile aspect with the cusp of the radix 3rd so the profected Ascendant becomes 25 Libra whose domicile ruler is Venus; however, directed Saturn at 25 Capricorn, in partile square to 25 Libra, so Saturn becomes Lord of the Year, he is also the Exaltation ruler of Libra and operating, by direction, from his own domicile which makes him quite strong. This is re-inforced by the directions involving Mars, in the profected 1st and ruling the profected 6th and the directions involving Mercury, in and ruling the profected 12th. I'm not quite sure why the Lot of Marriage has popped up again, looking at it as a generic 7th house lot it could be indicating the Duke's nephew (the 7th is 5th from the 3rd of siblings) who inherited the Duke's personal property, including the Chateau of Chambord; the one royal property he was allowed to keep during his lifetime. This might be supported by Aquarius (on the radix 7th) holding the cusp of the 5th (children) in the profected chart; the nephew may be the closest he had to a child given the Duke had no children of his own. Pure conjecture on my part as there is no information on what was happening in his marriage at the time. Pluto's input is very straightforward, he's in the radix 8th and profected 6th and opposes the Sun/Mercury conjunction. His prominence in the chart at the time of death is not unexpected. The man was married twice but no dates are given although Worsdale notes the second marriage occurred “when the Moon was directed to the Sextile of Jupiter in Mundo, by Direct Motion [22y 3m]”. Worsdale said the man “had acquired considerable knowledge in...Astronomy”, had calculated his own primary directions and come to the conclusion that when the Moon (the giver of life) was in the zodiacal square of Saturn, in Pisces, in the 8th his life would be in considerable danger “by Water” but Worsdale claimed “his Judgment in this case was founded on the false principles of the old School, for it is not the lord of the Eighth, nor Planets posited in the Eighth, that can produce Death, but the true Anareta only”. Worsdale says the direction, which he timed to 23 years, 1 month was a “single” direction that produced “no dangerous Accident of any kind...,for the Moon was then directed to the Rapt Parallel of Venus, and her Terms, which destroyed the apparent dangerous Effects of that single Direction; but though it had not the power to destroy Life, yet it produced a lingering disease, which continued until the time of his Death.” He puts the man's death by consumption (the lingering disease) on August 15, 1814 at the age of 24 years, 10 months and 7 days down to: “The Mortal Directions...,were, the Apheta to the Parallel of Mars in the Zodiac [24y 11m], the Semiquartile of Saturn in the World, by Converse Motion [25y 2m], and Square of that Malefic in Mundo, by Direct Direction [25y 2m], succeeded by the Hyleg to the Semiquartile of Saturn in the Zodiac, by Converse Motion [29y 6m], and Sesquiquadrate of Mercury in the Zodiac [29y 9m], and Parallel of that promittor in Mundo, by Direct [33y 0m] and Converse Motion [34y 5m]; these were the Directions which I allowed for his Death, and though the Moon the giver of Life, was directed to the Sextile of Jupiter in the Zodiac [30y 1m], which appeared to dissolve a large portion of the violence of the above train of Directions, yet his benign qualities were wholly destroyed, for he was directed at the same time to the Rapt Parallel of Saturn, he also ascended to the Body of Mars, applied to the opposition of Saturn, so that he could produce no assistance, for being thus overcome by the power of the Enemies, he specified the nature of the disease that destroyed Life, which was a Consumption”. And to top it off, he receives Saturn, who is in Pisces in the 8th, into Saturn's detriment (Leo). The Moon/Illness conjunction and 12th/6th house connections point to an illness as do the activations of the two 12th house planets, Uranus and Mars. The 8th/Pluto connection indicates death is possible and I believe the Mercury, Mars, 3rd , and 10th house activities signify the help the man received from doctors and friends as Worsdale said “every human effort was used for the recovery of the Native, yet all exertions proved ineffectual, as it was not in the power of the most learned Physician, to subdue the progress of that dreadful disease [consumption]”. The directions in the maiora and minora esse reinforce the main directions. There were too many minora esse aspects to list them all, tried to highlight those that seemed most relevant. I might have missed a few on the other levels as well, the chart is crazy busy. Jupiter, the radix Asc ruler, rules the 12th and the Moon/Saturn opposition, with both planets in their detriments, has gained strength by moving to the 10th/4th axis. Quote Thu Aug 31, 2023 12:49 pm
