Hello Martin,
Thank you for your honesty and your time.
If I wasn't passionate (and convinced) about the technique, I certainly wouldn't come on here and bang my head against the wall.
Re: "Being complete, it cannot be added to without losing its internal coherence,..."
This is the "News" section, not the "Traditional" section. Would this NOT be the section for techniques that came along later than the 16th Century? If not, it's not news.
Re: "If the Sun was hyleg in his chart..."
According to Bonatti, it is. As for Mars, I don't know exactly what you mean by "...I should like to see Mars involved as well..." Are you saying that death by violence should only be shown by Mars? Examing not very many charts of victims of violence would quickly lead away from that conclusion.
Re: "I don't think the trine symbolism is very obvious."
I can't speak for other systems, but in Topocentric Primary Directions, it is often the case that the CONTACT is more important than the specific aspect involved. If you have Mars in Taurus square to Saturn in Leo (natally), if later we see (TPD) Saturn TRINE Mars, I certainly would NOT expect good things to come of it, despite the trine aspect.
Re: "Some of your examples sound fine to me, while others sound off."
Okay, let's focus on the ones you like, then.

The fact that the symbolism is right AND the time orb is so close (sometimes to the DAY--you must admit 0? 0.0' is tight) certainly points away from coincidence.
One thing that we certainly can agree on is the necessity of correct symbolism. On a certain other website (no names), a Solar Arc Venus squaring Mercury might be listed as conclusive/relevant to Death, JUST BECAUSE VENUS RULES THE 8TH. Using that logic, anything CAN mean anything. ie. we get nowhere fast
The problem is...we are talking about different systems. The same aspects by transit that indicate _____ are not necessarily (and are NOT specifically) the same aspects in Topocentric Primary Directions for _____. For example, Death of the Mother in Topocentric Primary Directions is often shown by Moon or Venus contacting the IC. Transiting Venus conjuncting the IC wouldn't (generally) even elicit a reaction from the Astrologer.
Thanks again for taking the time, Martin.
