Yes, and it's also possible that Ivory Coast will be runners-up in that group. According to the bookies, both Portugal and IC are odds-on to be eliminated at the group stage! I'm looking forward to checking out the charts for the individual games in that particular group. As Andrew says, it's all very exciting but it makes our predictions for the finalists all the more difficult.

According to bookmakers Spain are favourites odds to win the World Cup at 5:1, while Brazil are 2nd at 6:1 followed by England at 7,5:1 and Argentina at 8:1. Next come Holland, Germany, Italy and France. Portugal are 30:1.

Among teams to meet in the final Brazil vs. Spain is rated as most likely at 12:1. England/Spain is 14:1 followed by Brazil/Argentina at 20:1. Argentina/England and Holland/Spain are both priced 23:1. Brazil vs. Portugal is priced 65:1.

The price for Brazil beating Argentina in the final is 65:1, while Brazil winning over Portugal is 100:1. 8)

Thanks Andrew,

The World Cup is the only time I find football interesting enough to watch. I really like the fact the teams authentically reflect their indigenous talent rather than the size of a cheque book as in club football. I am getting quite excited already. :D Due to the tragic absence of Scotland I will be supporting my usual default team.

I haven't really studied any charts or football form yet. I just have a real gut feeling Brazil or Argentina will pick up the trophy this year. Spain never seem to deliver what they promise.

I note your use of your horary for the event. However, from research people have done on past championships what other kinds of charts are most useful? Is the chart for the final often reflective of the national charts of the teams or the natal data of the managers?

Yes!! It is a combination! Different manners toward picking up the threads! :D

I must say that regarding the horary where I have 1) Brazil winning against 2) Portugal or Argentina - Brazil is read from Mercury's returning movement (retrograde) in the exaltation degree of the Moon (dignity, cup or silver) - so also it is shown that either Brazil winning or Brazil/Argentina in the final are 2nd (or silver) favourites as odds currently stand.

.

I am quite new to this kind of thing so please excuse me if I have missed something blatantly obvious. Firstly would I be correct in assuming you are plumping for Brazil, Argentina, Portugal etc because the sign of Virgo represents the South-West?

Virgo also fits well for Brazil using the 1822 national chart with both Sun and Mercury in that sign. A popular version of the chart also gives an early Pisces rising. Although other versions give late Aquarius. This makes me think of the World Cup final chart which is late Aquarius. The MC is Scorpio and the 1822 chart has Mars in Scorpio. Mars in the 1822 chart falls on the antiscion of the World Cup final ascendant.

Another national chart that comes to mind is that of Argentina. In particular the chart for the Declaration of Independence (9th July 1816) has the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Cancer. The Sun in the 1816 chart at 17'24 Cancer is very close to the the new Moon in the World Cup final chart. The 1816 Jupiter is in Scorpio and in a very close antiscion to the ascendant for the Final.

But what do I know? I dont usually do Sports astrology or Football!

As has been noted there is a total solar eclipse on the day of the World Cup Final. The eclipse full totality will only occur in two countries competing in the championship: Argentina and Chile. The eclipse will also be visible, although not total, in southern Brazil.

At 19 Cancer the total eclipse path falls close to the Argentinian Sun at 17 Cancer and the Moon at 20 Capricorn (time suggested by Nicholas Campion of 14:00) in the 1816 chart.

Regarding the path of the eclipse NASA states the following:
On Sunday, 2010 July 11, a total eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a narrow corridor that traverses Earth's southern Hemisphere. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow crosses the South Pacific Ocean where it makes no landfall except for Mangaia (Cook Islands) and Easter Island (Isla de Pascua). The path of totality ends just after reaching southern Chile and Argentina. The Moon's penumbral shadow produces a partial eclipse visible from a much larger region covering the South Pacific and southern South America

Is that a football you have got zooming across the South-Pacific there, Mark?
Looks like it doesn't it. One hell of a pass eh? :D

I am casting a judgement on who will be the finalists from Mercury, Lord of the ascendant in the 9th, in reception with Venus in the 10th, together with the Moon joining with Jupiter in Pisces sextile the Midheaven. I am giving Mercury and Virgo to Brazil (Hall, Bills), and Venus to Argentina, Libra, or Portugal, Pisces. Venus rules Libra by domicile and Pisces by exaltation. Furthermore, Mercury is in the 9th house that suggests the country lies in the SouthWest. Mercury is in an Earth sign that indicates the South. Venus in an Air sign gives leaning to the West.

I do think that the forum and contest is entirely open for other astrologers to argue for their own favourites or astrological expectations. But from a predictive point of view it is neccessary to form a clear opinion before the tournament before Friday, 11. June. I have looked a a limited number of charts for the coaches and captains of teams that interested me. The only thing there is that reaching the Football World Cup 2010 is a 'gold medal acheivement' at any measure. Also, I have been holding back on putting too many charts up here - since it could get to be too much work and simply confuse issues.

Anyone who can contribute with another opinion on who will win the World Cup and why, please don't hesitate. Got a chart or suggestion to how the problem can be approached astrologically - great! It's all in for the learning! :)

So funny. That will be an amazing graphic if Argentina get through to the final. Is it giving them the ball, or is it a home goal against them ? :)

Football and Argentina:
I keep forgetting to say - going back the horary and judging Argentina from Venus' intcerception in Gemini, this could be Maradonna. His hand-ball, termed as the 'Hand of God' that knocked England out of the quarter finals in 1986, must be one of the most famous moments of football history.

Maradonna has said he will run naked if Argentina win the World Cup.

Total Solar eclipse of 11 July belongs to Saros series 12S according to Jansky or Saros series 146 according to Espenack. This series was initiated on 31. August 1951 (gregorian calendar) at 12.10 GMT. This initiating partial eclipse occurred at 7VI27 with also the fortunes Venus and Jupiter being joined in Virgo. There is a mutual reception between Venus in Virgo and Mercury in Libra.
