Mars in the 1st too? That probably explains it. I was wondering why he even had pepper spray in his pocket to help him sell cameras.
Car keys? Check. Wallet? Check. Pepper spray to deal with sawn-off shot guns or customers who need extra convincing to buy cameras? Check.

Pepper is ruled by Mars too right? Makes sense to carry mars in his pocket.

In light of above comments I now can't help wondering what Venus in Taurus trine Mars in Capricorn has to say about the profitability of the sex life on various levels
My husband has Venus in Taurus trine Mars in Capricorn, and I've never paid him for sex in my life. :brows
...I have noticed that angular Mars in Capricorn appears in the charts of those who have to deal with political challenges.
This fits my husband to a tee. He has Mars in Capricorn in 10 ruling and in square to Aries ASC.

He was school union rep twice when the teachers went on strike. Both times he played a very hands-on role, shepherding his colleagues through a tense situation and negotiating with school admin. The first time it was not so much a strike as a political protest and our home was like Command Central for a while there, the fax machine smoking with the sheer volume of messages burning up the wires. Remember fax machines? He has also taken on school issues single-handedly, arguing them at the school board level and winning.

Interesting that Frank has Mars in 1 ruling MC, whereas my husband has Mars in 10 ruling ASC. He's never had to tackle a robber with a sawed off shotgun, but then we don't live in the wild and woolly USA.

Glad you lived to tell the tale, Frank! :'

lol

Mars in the 1st ought to make the person want to appear brave, it being in Capricorn will flavour it in ways which would suggest the person wants to also be seen as a leader.

Therefore Frank as a young boy may have dreamed about being in charge of a large army going to war against a force which on paper would have been bigger than the one under his command.

So this camera shop anecdote seems fitting as a pepper spray is unlikely to out power a sawn off shot gun, (unless the person holding it was blind or holding it the wrong way). Even if Frank had a nuclear warhead and rocket launcher in his other pocket, Mars in Cancer, he declined to use it on this occasion.

As regards Deb's question. Venus in Taurus is sexually responsive, concerned with the partners pleasure and likes the touch and feel of a healthy body. So as long as the client was 'fit' I'd have thought the trine to Mars is the optimal aspect to enable someone to set up a profitable business as a 'lady of the night'. (Other than this problem of clients being strangers. So there would need to be a getting to know you period first, perhaps a movie or even just a cup of tea. So it would be more of a refined service on offer ideally. Dependent on the quality of the tea, conversation or the movie).

eh, a gun would have been better. :)

"eh, a gun would have been better. Smile"

I think Frank is a traditional astrologer though. Maybe he's VERY traditional. Modern guns didn't exist back then, so he's opted for pepper.

Well it would be easier to carry than an arquebus. :)

One of my closest friends has Mars in Cap on the 7th cusp with Cancer rising. He was one of the strongest men in the world (power lifter benching over 600 lbs - 5'6" tall and weighing in at about 300 lbs). He's a retired US naval airman and Vietnam vet and was the one coaching me at Hercules gym. There was someone else in that gym who had Mars in Scorpio at the MC who benched 705 lbs (475 lbs by his senior year in high school). Neither of them have used any form of steroids.

Yes. Let me give you an example.

On 9 October 1980, I was working in a camera shop in Philadelphia, my home town. It was between 5 and 6 p.m. and I was hoping a customer would come in and pay cash so I could cash my paycheck out of the till.
A large man came through the door with a paper bag, from which he proceeded to pull a sawed-off shotgun.

He leveled the shotgun at my midsection and stared at me. I said, ?Can I help you?? He looked toward the cash register. I said, ?The manager just took all the money to the bank to be deposited.? While I said this, I looked him straight in the eye while I reached for the small pepper spray canister in my pocket.

I hit him right between the eyes with the pepper spray and dove under the counter in case he fired. He didn?t, and jumped over the counter and began clubbing me with the stock of the shotgun.

I fought my way out from under the counter, knocked the gun out of his hands and over the counter, then picked him up (he probably outweighed me by 70 lbs or so and was much taller), threw him over the counter and screamed at him ?Get out of my f#$&ing store or I?ll tear your f#$&ing heart out!? He picked up the gun and ran out. I chased him out into the street (with my white shirt covered in my blood) yelling for people to stop him. He got away, but the police picked him up about a week later.

I wound up with 17 stitches under my eye, seven above my eyebrow, and five in the back of my head from the blows from the shotgun butt.
The manager, who was in the back behind a curtain, called 911 and locked himself in the bathroom while all this was taking place.

Looking back, I acted pretty stupidly ? but I was 20 and my Mars was being squared by a transiting Moon/Pluto conjunction in Libra.
I went through something like this back on Aug 20, 1983 at 12:35 am when Mercury was conjunct my natal Mars and transiting Mars was conjunct my Mercury. I was a typical tough kid having been through about 5 years of high crime drug infested and violent neighborhood in the near NE side of Syracuse (75' - 80') and was mugged in Kennedy square that night by 4 guys. I got into a fight with the first one for the first 10 seconds or so and got peppered in the eyes (thought it was spray paint at the time), then someone shouted out "take out your wallet or I'll take out my knife" and I almost said back "you dumb sh!t - you should already have your knife out". Most people would not even think like that but 5 years in that old neighborhood made what happened in 1983 seem like a welcome home party after being away at college in Denver.

On a couple of occasions I have been shot at in that neighborhood and was hit in the heel of one of my sneakers once. One guy held a knife to my throat once as a joke.

Astrologers usually have a hard time explaining why I went through all that hell, but there is a definition in Antiochus about overcoming and my Mars in Virgo overcomes my Saturn in Capricorn. Mars is in its own bounds and the 3rd house is indicative of neighborhoods (Saturn) because the 3rd represents what is near the home (4th). Theoretically my Mars sucks up all that power of Saturn in Capricorn because it is the exaltation lord. Otherwise it becomes hard to explain why this is possible:

It looks funny now, but I'm only too glad to put those days behind me. I suffered from PTSD for years after that period.

I do too! It's in my coat pocket at all times. Again, lord of geniture in Aries here. I mentioned to Paul before that I had a fight with a Rottweiler to save my dog - who, as other men in my life, likely has a debilitated Mars also (lol). When I am angry, fire takes over completely, and I swear I could turn into Carrie and blow people (or Rottweilers) up with my mind if I wanted to. Although, I have a Mercury-Mars conjunction, so it usually comes out with words as knife-wounds (which is what happened with the Rottweiler's male owner).

Deb mentioned the cardinal differences between Aries and Capricorn for Mars, I can definitely understand the Capricorn control being the more ideal situation, especially in day charts, where fire is even more excessive and needs controlled. Day chart Cap Mars might still be a bit more impulsive and quick to anger than night ones though, as Mars has night sect because of his over abundance in fire temperament?

Zoidsoft, do you have a day Mars?

LOL

My Mars in Gemini sounds so crap in comparison to all these great stories. If someone attacks me, what am I going to do? Whip out a gossip magazine and give them paper cuts?
