dir Death semi-sextile rad Sun In the directions, Neptune is critical. In the maiora he is conjunct the 8th and square Uranus who is connected with the 6th of illness. The 11th is active in the directions, it holds the Moon/Saturn opposition which has moved into the profected 10th/4th angles. Both the Saturn (ruler of the radix 12th) and the Moon are connected to the lot of Death in the maiora. In the minora the Moon is critical. She is square the Sun (who is critical in the maiora) while Saturn is conjunct Mercury, ruler of the profected 6th who is connected with both the profected Asc and radix Asc ruler (Jupiter) by direction, with Illness and Jupiter in the maiora, and Pluto and Fortune in the minora. There is a web of aspects across all three levels with the maiora aspects most clearly reflecting the final result.

Extended Speculum The child died on July 4, 1825. Worsdale does not give the cause. He states that “This Native died by Directions to the Hyleg” which he claimed was Jupiter “for...neither of the Luminaries are in an Aphetical position...Jupiter has the proper Dignities to claim that power” giving a number of reasons related to the preceding Full Moon, being with the Sun, opposite the Ascendant, and trine the Moon in Mundo (they are inconjuct by sign). The only essential dignity Jupiter has at 19 Virgo, sign of his detriment, is being in his own term. He says “the Mortal train” of directions began with Jupiter to the body of Mercury (10y 6m) and ended with Jupiter to the sextile of Venus (12y 9m).

Profection

The little girl was 10 years old when she died putting the profection in Aquarius, the 11th whole sign from the Ascendant. Aquarius holds the cusp of the radix 12th at 14º, no radix or directed planet is in partile aspect to that degree so the profected Ascendant takes the degree of the radix Ascendant, putting it at 5 Aq 52; however, the directed Sun at 5 Vi 34 aspects that degree so he becomes Lord of the Year and the profected Ascendant becomes 5 Aq 34. The radix Sun is with Jupiter and Mars (ruler of the radix Ascendant) in the radix 6th, they all have moved to the profected 8th. Mercury, ruler of the profected 8th, is in the profected 7th.

Illness sextile Moon The chart is extremely busy, which appears to be the norm for main events in the life. The critical elements, cusp directions and the lot activations paint a pretty decisive picture. Although we don't know how the child died it looks like an illness took her and while Worsdale insisted Jupiter was the Hyleg I'm more inclined to believe it was the Moon.

I've highlighted Uranus in blue above, in the maiora, as he has moved to 23 Sagittarius, just past the directed MC at 22 Sagittarius so he is not literally in the same degree but quite close. He is posited in the radix 8th and, if you accept modern rulerships, co-rules the radix 12th. He is the most elevated planet in the profected chart, co-rules the 1st and by direction is moving to conjunct his natal position (his declination was quite large, 19S). Being in a fixed sign (Scorpio) in the radix he is likely to produce a decisive event which is also indicated by his being disposited by the Ascendant ruler, Mars. The connection with the 8th, 6th and 12th coupled with Mars combust in opposition to Pluto in the 12th are strong indications the event will be an unfortunate one.

Extended Speculum Worsdale says a woman presented him with this birth time of a female relative “now living” and asked him to tell her “when any particular Event would take place;...whether the Native was likely to Travel, or take long Voyages, and, if she would be fortunate, or unfortunate, in general, during Life." He claims that as soon as he had “examined the violent positions of the Celestial Bodies, and the Mortal Directions in Infancy, I immediately told her, I was confident, that her relation was dead, and that she died before the end of the sixth Year” when the Sun (as the giver of life) “was directed to the Zodiacal Parallel of Saturn [5y 3m], followed by six others that were joined in the deadly train.” Needless to say, he was not amused; he went on to examine the woman's own chart and promptly told her she herself would be dead “before the end of the Month of June, 1832”;Worsdale could be quite a virulent little man when he wanted to be.

Profection
Worsdale does not give an exact date of death for the child relative, but as she died before the end of her sixth year and he timed it roughly to an age of 5 years 3 months I decided to look at the directions and profection for when she was 5 years old (August 3 1776 to August 3 1777). The Profection would have been in the 6th sign, Pisces. The radix cusp of the 6th is also in Pisces and directed Venus is in partile square from 15 Ge 51 (4' from perfect) and directed Pluto is inconjunct from 15 Aq 14. This would put the profected Ascendant at 15 Pisces with Venus, rather than Jupiter, as Lord of the Year. Venus, in the radix, is in the 10th, the most elevated planet in the chart, in the opposition of Pluto and Jupiter in the 4th, and rules the Ascendant and the 8th. She is disposited by the Moon in the 8th where she is with the South Node and Uranus and in Taurus, which puts Venus and the Moon in mutual reception by domicile; the two will work together to bring about what each signifies. In the profected chart Venus continues to rule the 8th but is placed in the 5th.

Saturn is critical at 0 Leo. In the radix he is in the 11th square the 8th house Moon. In the profected chart he is in the 6th and the Moon is in the 2nd opposing the 8th.

The directed MC is sextile the radix Moon (an 8th house planet) and trine the radix Lot of Illness in the 2nd while the directed 2nd trines directed Fortune.

The Asc is in a mitigated semi-sextile (having the power of a conjunction) with Neptune who is in the profected 6th with Saturn and conjunct the directed 12th. Emphasis is thus being placed on the 2nd/8th and 6th/12th axes in a profected 6th year.

The emphasis is compounded by the directions involving Uranus (an 8th house planet), Venus (ruler of the radix Ascendant and Lord of the Year), the Sun (general significator of life), the Lot of Death and the Lot of the Killing Planet.

Add to that directions involving the two 4th house planets (Jupiter and Pluto) and Mars, a 12th house planet on the cusp of the profected 7th and it is clear the year will likely hold an unfortunate, possibly life-threatening, event.

Extended Speculum According to Worsdale the young man died on May 7, 1809 at the age of 17. He goes on to say “The Death of this Native was occasioned by his drinking cold stagnated Water from a Ditch, which I have reasons to judge, (from the whole position,) was considerably impregnated with Animal matter of a poisonous quality, from the Effects of which, he languished a considerable time in severe affliction, before his personal extinction took place....The Horoscope is the Apheta in this Nativity, and the Directions that destroyed Life, were, the Semiquartile of Saturn in the World [17y4m], the Mundane Square of Mars [18y11m], and the Sesquiquadrate of the Sun [25y2m]”.

Profection
The profection was in the 6th whole sign, Scorpio, putting he profected Ascendant at 15 Scorpio. Radix Jupiter is in 15 Libra, semi-sextile the profected Ascendant so he takes over as Lord of the Year. In the profected chart Jupiter is conjunct the 12th (Illness) house cusp as is directed Neptune. Jupiter is in the radix 5th and rules the profected 5th (pleasure, risk) which now holds Saturn, whom he opposes. The radix 6th house planets (Sun, Venus, Neptune) now occupy the profected 12th.

Neptune conjunct Jupiter
Mercury, ruler of the radix Ascendant and 5th, profected 8th and 11th is critical in Virgo (radix 5th, profected 11th). A life and death (1st, 8th) decision (Mercury) involving pleasures, risks (5th), friends (11th). This is further emphasized by the 12th (illness) conjunct the greater malefic (Saturn) in square to the 2nd/8th axis and involved with Fotune, Illness and the Killing Planet. With directed Neptune, radix Jupiter, and the profected 12th conjunct each other in square to Uranus, the planet of eccentric human behaviour while the directed Ascendant is in a mitigated inconjunct, having the power of an opposition, with the directed Sun, ruler of the radix 4th (end-of-life) in the radix 6th (injury, illness) ruling the profected 10th (actions) and in the profected 12th (illness).

Venus, in and ruling the radix 6th, in and ruling the profected 12th, is in a square with directed Death while radix Venus is in a sextile with the directed Moon (body), a radix 5th house planet in the profected 10th (action).

The same elements are elements are also emphasized in the maiora and minora esse.

Extended Speculum Worsdale gives three roughly timed events and the date of death for this individual:

• Age 18 and 4 months – suffered a fall and a bout of coughing and pleurisy which Worsdale attributed to the Ascendant direct to the body of Saturn
• Age 27 and 3 months – suffered a sudden, alarming sickness with fever, pains in the head and breast and trouble breathing which Worsdale attributed to the Ascendant directed to the square of Mars in mundo
• Age 60 and 10 months – suffered an intermitting fever, eye injury, and pains in the breast and abdomen which Worsdale attributed to the Ascendant directed to the opposition of the Sun or the MC to the mundane square of the Sun
• Age 68 – died on June 26, 1822 from inflammation of the bowels which Worsdale attributed to a long chain of aspects involving the Moon, as Hyleg, beginning with the Moon opposition Mars in mundo by converse direction [68y 3m] and ending with the Moon square Saturn in the zodiac by converse motion [75y 8m]
  I decided to look at all four of the events, details follow.

The profection was in the 7th whole sign from the Ascendant, Gemini. No radix or directed planet aspected the cusp of the 7th so the profected Ascendant was at 14 GE 21 with Mercury as Lord of the Year. Mercury, Lord of the Year, is the most elevated planet in the radix being in and ruling the 10th conjunct the MC; in the profected chart he's the lowest, being in the 4th conjunct the IC while the directed 12th (illness) sits in the profected 6th (injury) in his sextile (between VI-SC so with the power of a trine). The directed Lot of Accidents opposes the radix Moon (body) in opposition to the profected 1st (accidents).

Directed Mars, ruler of the profected 6th (injury) is semi-sextile (AR-PI are equally ascending signs so has the power of a conjunction) radix Uranus (unexpected). The Lot of Illness is in the trine of radix Pluto in the radix 12th (illness) and profected 6th (injury, illness). Pluto is in Sagittarius which can indicate a fall from a horse although Worsdale did not say this was the case while Valens says Mars signifies injuries and falls from heights.

The Ascendant turned critical during the year, at 0 Sagittarius, which would put it semi-sextile to radix Saturn at 0 Capricorn, in each others antiscion.

Mr. Golding suffered from a “sudden, and alarming illness” with a violent fever, pains in the head and breast, difficulty breathing.
The profection was in the 4th whole sign from the Ascendant, Pisces, putting the Ascendant at 14 Pisces 21 and making Jupiter Lord of the Year. Directed Pluto is trine the profected Ascendant so either usurps Jupiter's power or shares it with him.
The directions most descriptive of the illness appear to be the directed Lot of Illness critical at 0 Aries (head) in square to radix Saturn at 0 Capricorn, during the year it moved to 29 Pisces, square directed Jupiter, Lord of the Year, critical in Gemini in the 4th. Jupiter, Gemini and the 4th all have significations referencing the respiratory system.

Directed Neptune conjunct radix Venus (L6) while directed Venus is square radix Uranus (sudden, alarming) and directed Uranus is square radix Mars (fever). The Neptune/Venus conjunction is in the 4th (breast) in Cancer (breast). The Uranus/Mars square is in between equally ascending signs so its power is doubled with Uranus in the profected 12th.

The profection was in the 1st, the profected Ascendant is the same as the radix Ascendant. Jupiter is both the radix and profected Ascendant ruler with the profected chart being equal to the radix chart. By direction, three elements are critical: the 2nd, the North Node, and the Lot of Accidents. The strongest direction is the directed Asc square radix Jupiter (L1) in signs of equal ascension, doubling the power of the square while it trines Venus (L6) and directed Jupiter is conjunct the radix lot of the Killing Planet in the 6th.

Directed Mars (L12) is semi-sextile the radix Moon (body) in like-engirding signs, so having the power of a conjunction. The directed 12th is inconjunct radix Mars (L12) from like-engirding signs, giving it the power of an opposition.

There is no directed aspect involving the Lot of Illness other than a sextile to itself in Aries.

The eye injury may possibly be shown by the directed Lot of Accident inconjunct radix Saturn in the 1st in signs of equal ascension so having the power of an opposition while directed Saturn is involved in an unmitigated inconjunction with the directed Sun (right eye) while the directed 5th (risks) at 18 Pisces is in an unmitigated inconjunction with the radix Sun.

In each incident the 12th (illness), its ruler Mars (fever), the Sun (life), the Moon (body) and the Asc (life/body) were active. Uranus (in the radix 2nd in opposition to the 8th) was also active in connection with the Sun and/or Mars (L12) or Venus (L6) as was Pluto (in the radix 12th). All the illnesses appear to have been severe but only the one at age 18 appears to have been actually life threatening. It was the one event where Venus (L6 injury) was not active by direction; instead, she was in the profected 1st (injury coming to the body?) and Mars, ruler of the profected 6th was active.
