Catching up with noting the auction results... Part Two

Returning now from the $2000+ results of the Nostradamus sale to the relatively modest results of sales on ebay, we find the following still to be noted:
1: A recent reprint of Robert Ambelain's three-volume set 'Traite d'Astrologie Esoterique' still managed to hit the seller's reserve of 60 Euros:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1
2. A rather fine copy of 'Astrology Made Easy' by H. F., A Fellow of the Universal Brotherhood from 1898 sold for a bargain $4.99 to a sole bidder.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=016
(Definitely one I would have bid on in normal circumstances!)
3. An original 1647 first edition of 'Christian Astrology' by William Lilly in rather worn and soiled condition was at first unsold (reserve not met) but was then relisted on a 'Buy It Now or Best Offer' basis and a single offer of just $750 was accepted by the seller. But for the condition, this would have been an outrageous bargain in view of how much the book is normally worth (upwards of $3250). As it was, it was still an antiquarian bargain, and with rebinding it would double or triple in value overnight at the very least.

4. A limited edition reprint from 1947 of 'Pratique abr?g?e des jugements Astronomiques sur les Nativit?s' by Le Comte Henri de Boulainviller (first published 1717) sold for just 12,50 Euros.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=001
5. A bound volume of Alan Leo's journal 'Modern Astrology' for the whole of 1906, in indifferent binding condition but otherwise good, sold to a sole bidder for the seller's opening price of just $45.00. This was rather a bargain at the price for a whole relatively early year of this scarce and historically important journal.

6. An attractively bound copy of the 1822 edition of 'William Lilly's History of His Life and Times 1602-1681, Written by Himself' sold to a sole bidder for the starting price of $165.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=015
Although not one of the two rare early 18th century editions from 1715 and 1722 (?), this later reprint is generally considered the 'next best thing', and this price was very reasonable.
7. A fine and rare first edition from 1867 of Frances Rolleston's 'The Letters of Miss Frances Rolleston' sold for ?76.99.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=009
This was a very good buy at the price (probably worth at least twice as much in truth) for its revealing insights into the research of the author of the Mazzaroth. (I bid on it to ?74.99 myself but did not have the money to spare to keep pace with the competition!)
A tip for anyone interested - a mixed first / second edition of 'Mazzaroth', most parts the first edition from 1862-65, but Part One the second edition from 1875, was listed just a few days ago by a reputable UK bookseller on Abebooks that I have dealt with before very satisfactorily, for around ?150.00 (may offer a 10% discount for direct purchase if asked). There are some faults to the condition, but for such a rare book this is a reasonable price. Complete first editions tend to cost upwards of ?350-?400 ($700-$800) if in sound condition, and both first and second editions are very rare.
8. A first edition in hardcover binding from 1952 of Rodney Collin's 'The Theory of Celestial Influence' sold for ?26.01 (just over $50):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=013
9. A fine first edition of E. Bullinger's 'The Witness of the Stars' from 1893 sold to a sole bidder for the starting bid of ?75.00 (approx. $150). Though there are cheaper unsold copies on the used market, none of them is in such nice condition, and this price was justified. It was marketed by this seller as Christian literature, but is arguably of more interest to astrologers!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=014
(Another one I would have bid on myself but for having other strict priorities at the present time!)
10. A first edition from the 1970s in three hardcover volumes of Otto Neugebauer's 'A History of Ancient Mathematical Astrology' sold for $425.00. Second-hand copies tend to cost upwards of $600 depending on condition. This one was not in perfect condition, and a new reprint would be cheaper, but it was still a lot cheaper than any other first edition set available. (I don't have this great work on the early history of astronomy, which is reputed to be equally important in understanding the development of ancient astrology, in any form yet, but it's on my future shortlist!)

Still more to catch up on after these, maybe ten or so, but that's all I have time for just now!
