1. The directed 11th is in the sign of Leo in the radix (home, family) and falls on the 4th (home, family) in the profected chart. It is trine Mercury (speech) in the profected 1st (person) and in opposition to Uranus (individuality) in the profected 9th (religion, public speech), and sextile radix Mars (conflict) in the profected 1st while directed Mars is involved in a sextile (mitigated, so with the power of a trine) with the lot of Religion and Faith.

Directed Mercury and Uranus are involved in a sextile while directed Mercury is also sextile (mitigated, so with the power of a trine) radix Mars and directed Uranus is trine radix Mars.

The US had never had a Catholic president. Kennedy was facing obstacles from protestant politicians and groups who worried he would take advice from the Pope given that he was Catholic; the speech was a defence of his family's (4th) religion (9th) and his promise that he would not be swayed, in serving the American people, by his religion or the Pope. The opposition points to need for him to separate himself from his religion, the trines and sextiles, indicate he succeeded. As does the directed Moon (the people) trine the lot of Oration.

2. Mercury rules the radix 9th (religion, public speech). Other aspects indicating the “religious” focus of the event is the directed Sun trine radix Neptune (spiritual/religious) in the radix 10th (honour) and profected 3rd (speech). The directed Asc square the lot of Fortune in the radix 4th (family), profected 9th (religion). The directed 3rd (speech) semi-sextile the lot of Oration in the profected 7th (conflict).

Kennedy beats Nixon to become the 35th President of the USA. The profection is still in the 8th whole sign, Taurus, with Venus (L1-L8) as the Lord of the Year. The Age Arc is 43º27'. Dir->Dir

1. The significations are similar to those listed under the Catholic speech; a key change is the directed Sun moving to conjunct the radix lot of Glory (From Fortune to Spirit) which is the same as Valen's Lot of Basis. His directed 11th (in Leo, on the radix 4th) is now inconjunct the lot of Glory rather than connected to Mercury and Uranus. Ironically, the inconjunct is not mitigated, an indication the “glory” he wins today will probably be averse to his life; reinforced by directed Glory in an unmitigated inconjunct with his radix Moon in the radix 11th (friends, hopes) in the profected 4th (family), an indication his glory will be averse to his family as well as himself.

2. The strongest aspect, after the Sun conjunction, appears to be the directed 3rd in the doubled square to the Moon. The radix 3rd is in Sagittarius which is on the profected 9th, the courts, public opinion. The election was not easily won, Nixon did not concede until the following morning, there were numerous recounts and the Electoral College did not certify Kennedy as the new president until December 19th. It would be very difficult, at the time and from these directions alone, to have picked him as the winner.

3. It's possible the directed Uranus trine Mars gives some indication; Uranus is in the profected 10th (honor) and Mars in the profected 12th conjunct the profected Ascendant. At the time there was a lot of speculation and numerous accusations of behind the scene shenanigans and an 'election fix', which was one reason behind all the recounts. The planets are square in the radix, between the 4th and 8th houses (many believed his father (4th) paid for the supposed 'fix') the directed trine eases things and makes it more likely that the things will fall out in his favor.

And the directed North Node is trine Saturn in the radix 10th (honor), indicating an important favourable (trine) event for the career and reputation.

John Jr was born on November 25, 1960 by emergency C-section. Where the birth of his sister, Caroline, had been fairly easy to spot in the directed chart, sussing out John's birth proved a tougher problem.

The profection is still the one that was active at the time of the Catholic speech and the election, being in the 8th whole sign with the profected Asc at 19 TA 54 and while the Age Arc changed slightly from the election period, going from 43º27' to 43º30' it was not enough movement to produce new directed aspects; everything was pretty much where it was at the time of his election, which meant I had to take a more granular approach to figuring this one out.

First, which lot to use? The Lot of Children was not active; it had not been active at Caroline's birth either, I had to look to the lot of Daughters. Janus lists lots for Male Children and for Sons; they boil down to four combinations:

1. from Mars to Jupiter (Al-biruni, Ibn Ezra) [24 LI 31]
2. from the Moon to Jupiter (Louis, Al-Andarzaghar, Laurentianus) [25 GE 44]
3. from Mercury to Jupiter (Valens, Paulus) [17 LI 26]
4. from the Lord of the Moon to the Moon (Al-Qabisi) [16 AQ 30]

Al-Qabisi's lot is ruled by Saturn, ruler of the radix 5th; Louis' lot is ruled by Mercury, the general significator of children and the ruler of the profected 5th, while the other two lots are both ruled by Venus, who is lord of the year.

Saturn is not involved in a directed aspect; directed Mercury is involved in an aspect and the Valens/Paulus lot, by direction, is moving from 4 VI to 3 VI. I decided to focus on this last lot as:

1. a change of degree often acts as an event trigger,
2. the lot is ruled by Venus, the Lord of the Year, which is often an indication the lot will be active,
3. Mercury is a constituent of the lot, ruler of the profected 5th, and it is active by being sextile Uranus who is conjunct (3º28') the 5th house cusp in the radix
4. the directed 11th is at 17 CA in square to the radix lot at 17 LI; the radix 11th is in Leo which is on the profected 4th of family
5. the lot is in the sextile of radix Pluto (often involved in C-sections)

Taking a look at the maiora esse for the period we have:

• the IC at 4 VI conjunct the directed lot of Sons at 4-3 VI
• Jupiter at 7 GE conjunct the radix Sun at 7 GE, ruler of the profected 4th (family); Jupiter is also a constituent of the lot of Sons
• Mars at 3 GE square the directed lot of Sons a 4-3 VI
• Neptune at 17 LE sextile the radix lot of Sons at 17 LI

Taking a look at the minora esse for the period we have:

• the MC at 19 LE conjunct the profected 4th
• Jupiter at 23 SC square radix Uranus (who is active by direction being sextile Mercury); Jupiter is also in the profected 7th (marriage) opposite his radix position
• Saturn at 27 CP square radix Saturn (ruler of the radix 5th)
• Uranus is at 23 LE opposite his radix position
• Pluto is at 3 CP trine the directed lot of Sons at 3 VI and opposite his radix position of 3 CA

The actual circumstances of the birth appear to be indicated by the involvement of Uranus (unexpected) Mars (cutting) Pluto (drastic action) and Neptune (confusion or hopes?).

As a rule, I don't usually focus much on planets in one house conjunct the cusp of another but here it is interesting that Uranus is in the radix 4th conjunct the radix 5th and, by profection, appears to connect 4th house (family, end-of-things) with a 5th house matter (birth of a child) by being activated by Mercury, the ruler of the profected 5th, whom he squares in the profected 1st (radix 8th).
Edit: should also have noted that the 4th is the 12th from the 5th which would indicate a connection with confinement or hospitals with regards to children, in this case, an unexpected (Uranus) hospital (derived 12th) visit.

JFK went to Berlin where he made his now famous 'Ich bin ein Berliner' speech. The profection for the year is in the 11th Whole Sign, with the profected Asc in 19 Leo 54, and the Sun as the Lord of the Year. The Age Arc for the event is 46º05'.

The directed Asc is changing degrees and involved in an opposition to Mercury, ruler of the radix 9th (foreign travel, oratory).

The directed 11th (Leo in the radix) is on the profected 1st with the Sun as the Lord of the Year in the profected 10th indicating the year will be focused on his presidency and largely spent in the public eye.

The directed 11th is opposite directed Uranus (oratory, magnetic speech) while radix Uranus is trine the lot of Oration. And both the directed 11th and Uranus are involved in aspects with the lot of Glory. He was loudly cheered throughout the speech and apparently ad-libbed (Uranus) the “Ich bin ein Berliner” line that was cheered the loudest. Although, given the oppositions between the Asc and Mercury and the lot of Oration and Jupiter it would appear not everyone was pleased with his speech.

Kennedy's son Patrick born on August 7, 1963; he died two days later.
The profection is still in the 11th whole sign, 19 Leo 54 on the profected Asc, the Sun is Lord of the Year.
The Age Arc is 46º12', only 7' difference separates the event from his Berlin Speech Age Arc of 46º05' so very little has changed, direction wise with the exception of his MC and Ascendant contacts. Dir->Dir

The lot of Children-Male is critical at 0 CP. The strongest aspects appear to be the doubled square between the directed 3rd (profected 5th of children) and the Moon in the profected 1st while the directed Moon is involved in a doubled square to the directed lot of Children in the radix 1st. The Moon rules the profected 12th, the 8th (death) from the profected 5th (children) while the directed 12th (8th from the radix 5th of children) is in a trine (doubled sextile) to radix Venus (radix Asc ruler in the radix 8th) and in opposition to the lot of radix Children-Male.

A number of the elements were active during the Berlin Speech but there the emphasis appeared to be placed on Kennedy's person as the directed Asc was changing degree; there were also fewer aspects involving the Moon, the lots for children, and the Sun (in the radix 8th).

Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, the profection was still in the 11th with the profected Asc at 19 Leo 54 and the Sun as Lord of the Year. The Age Arc for the event is 46º29'. Dir->Dir

The directed 3rd (short journey) is changing degree; it is in a mitigated inconjunct, with the power of an opposition, to Venus (Asc ruler, also recently changed degree) in the radix 8th, profected 10th (honor), with the Sun, Lord of the Year. The directed Sun (which had recently changed degree) is conjunct the lot of Death, inconjunct the radix 11th (profected 1st) and trine Saturn in the 10th, profected 12th of secret enemies.) Directed Jupiter, the ruler of the radix 3rd, profected 5th, is in a doubled square with Fortune

The 3rd is the profected 5th of children but also risk, and entertainment and JFK's cavalcade was being shown on TV at the time. The ruler of the 3rd, Jupiter, is an 8th house planet and was involved in a mitigated semi-sextile (with the power of a conjunction) of the SAN.

Usually the chart is read first and then an attempt is made to time the expected events. For the purpose of study I've gone at this in the reverse. After knowing the what and when of the life, where in the chart do we find the indications?

Siblings
Two of his siblings died in horrific plane accidents while in foreign countries. Siblings are ruled by the 3rd place which has Sagittarius on the cusp, ruled by Jupiter who, in this chart is what Morin would describe as an accidental malefic and who will attract events that will harm Kennedy's siblings. That Jupiter is an accidental malefic is shown by his being (all derived places are derived from the 3rd):

• in the 8th (death) and 6th (injury) with the 8th, the derived 6th
• averse to his dispositor, Venus
• harmed by being a masculine planet in a feminine sign and quarter
• without dignity (he is peregrine in Taurus)
• in Saturn's term

Sagittarius is a mutable sign, indicating that there will be more than one sibling and one or more harmful events. Jupiter itself is in a fixed sign, an indication the events attracted will be definitive in their result; an existing 'stable' situation will be replaced by another, different, 'stable' situation. The events in question will be connected with death (8th) and either employees, co-workers, or possibly the military (derived 6th).

As to how the events will come about, we can look at the aspects Jupiter is involved in, he is:

• with Mercury (2º27'), ruler of the 9th (foreign travel) which is the derived 7th (partners)
• with Mars (4º37') ruler of the 7th (partners) and the derived 5th (pleasure)
• Mercury and Mars are conjunct (2º10') connecting their houses as derived from the 3rd of siblings, and, by their natural analogies referring to both younger siblings (Mercury) and brothers (Mars)
• joined by sextile (4º07') to Saturn (older brother), term ruler, who is in the 10th which is the derived 8th (death)
• Saturn is in the same place (10th, derived 8th) as Neptune (aviation)
• joined by trine (5º50') to the Moon in the 11th, derived 9th (foreign travel), ruler of the derived 8th and dispositor of Saturn

Joe was killed along with a co-worker (6th) while Kathleen was killed along with her fiancee (5th); so neither of them were alone when they died (7th partners). Joe died when an experimental bomb he was transporting by plane (Neptune) during the war (7th) exploded (Mars). The plane (Neptune) Kathleen was in, crashed in an accident (Mars). Both were killed overseas (9th) in a very public manner (10th, Moon). In both cases Saturn was involved in an OA direct aspect with the directed Lot of Death-Siblings, the radix lot is in the 7th of partners in Aries, ruled by Mars.

Triplicity Rulers
Dorotheus claims we can know everything from the triplicity rulers. The chart is diurnal and Jupiter is in Taurus whose diurnal triplicity ruler is Venus, with the Moon as the nocturnal ruler and Mars as the participating triplicity ruler. Venus would rule the first half of his life, the Moon, the second half, and Mars would be a participating ruler in both periods.

Jupiter is with Mercury and Mars and joined to the Moon, the nocturnal ruler. At the time of Joe's death the directed Moon had moved to square Jupiter (sibling). At the time of Kathleen's death, it had moved to square Mercury (younger sibling). That the accidents occurred under a time when the Moon was active could be an indication that Kennedy, in 1944, at the age of 27, is already in the second half of his life as the Moon is Jupiter's 2nd triplicity ruler.

12th Parts
Firmicus claims we can know everything from the 12th parts which are also called the dwads, duads, dodecatemoria, or micro-zodiac. They come in two forms, one is calculated down to the degree and minute, the other assigns them to 2º 30' slices of their parent sign. There is some confusion over the correct calculation to use as Firmicus uses 12 as a multiplier and Paulus 13; however, from what I can tell, the confusion is the result of translation and not practice since both methods will yield the same results.

Firmicus multiplies the degrees and minutes by 12 and then adds sign, degrees and minutes. Paulus multiplies the degrees and minutes by 13 and then adds the sign degrees; the results are the same. For example, to find the dodecatemoria of 27 AQ 24, using Firmicus' method:
To find the same 12th using Paulus' method: The second form the 12th parts come in appears to be based on a Babylonian method that divides each sign by 2.5°, assigning the first 2.5° division to the sign itself, the next 2.5° to the next sign, etc. until you reach the end of the sign. For example, the 12th parts of Libra run 0° Libra, 2°30’ Scorpio, 5°00’ Sagittarius, 7°30’ Capricorn, etc. Francesca Rochberg, in A Babylonian Rising-Times Scheme in Non-Tabular Astronomical Texts published in Studies in the History of the Exact Sciences in Honour of David Pingree, believes the divisions “attest to an awareness of the problem of oblique ascensions of the zodiacal signs” (p58).

The results obtained by the first method do not always coincide with the Babylonian divisions. For example, the micro-zodiac division for 27 AQ 24 is Sagittarius, not Capricorn. I have, for a long time, suspected that the divisions were related to timing in profections, Rochberg's finding tends to make me think my suspicion is correct, at least, in part.

The 12th part of Jupiter, by divisions, falls in Aquarius which appear irrelevant in both events. The first event happened in a 4th profected year, Capricorn on the profected 1st, Aquarius on the 2nd which times to June 29-July 29, Joe was killed on August 12th. Kathleen's death occurred in a 7th profected year, Aries on the profected 1st with Aquarius on the profected 10th which would time to March 29-April 29; she died on May 13th. So the dwad does not time the deaths to their profected months. Neither did it work for profected days.

Using the calculated 12th of 29 Capricorn, we find it in the profected 1st for the time of Joe's death, which could be relevant and in the profected 10th for the time of Kathleen's death, which might also be relevant with regard to Saturn's involvement in the events but they do not time the events.

What did make some sense was taking the 12th part division for the 3rd house cusp at 18 SA 55, it falls in Cancer which is on the derived 8th. It doesn't time the event but it does highlight a house that is important in determining the type of event and identifying a key planet, the Moon, ruler of Cancer, which was active at the time of the event by OA direction, particularly as the Moon is a triplicity ruler of Jupiter's. The calculated 12th for the cusp yields 5 LE 55 which is conjunct Neptune (3º15'); again, it appears relevant. Now need to see if this approach will hold up when examining other events in both this and other charts.

Joe and Kathleen were not the only Kennedy siblings to experience hardship. In 1941 his older sister Rosemary under went a partial lobotomy that left her permanently incapacitated and on July 18, 1969 his brother Teddy was involved in a car crash that he survived but his companion, Mary Jo Kopechne did not. While the crash did not kill Teddy it did end his hopes of becoming president, definitively altering the course of his career and life. I have not looked at the directions for these events, one of which happened before Kennedy's death;however, they support the indications for more than one sibling and multiple harsh events.

Children

Note: While working on this I discovered that I had entered the value of JFK's Lot of Children (from Jupiter to Saturn) in my spreadsheet incorrectly as 24 SA 01, it should have been 24 SA 54. This means the directed positions were off by almost a degree. As I a result I wrongly thought the lot was not active at the time of all 3 births, it turns out it was at 14 Scorpio in trine to directed Mars (L7) at 14 Pisces during Caroline's birth, at 11 Scorpio sextile the radix N. Node at 11 Capricorn and in a mitigated inconjunction (opposition) with Venus at 11 Aries during John's birth and and at 8 Scorpio in a mitigated inconjunct (opposition) with Venus at 8 Aries during Patrick's birth.

Children are generally said to be signified by the 5th place, Jupiter, and the lot of children.

The 5th place is in Aquarius ruled by Saturn in the 10th. As Saturn is angular and in a fertile sign he indicates there will be children;however, he is in his Fall in Cancer and in the 6th place from the 5th which indicates there will be misfortune in connection with the children. Saturn (L5) is sextile (4º07') Jupiter, the general significator of children, and ruler of the Lot of Children (24 SA) which also is an indication there will be children. But again, Saturn is a malefic and Jupiter is an accidental malefic in this chart and he is in the 6th from the Lot, so both promise unhappiness in connection with children. Zoller noted that “An accidental malefic is more likely, than any other planet, to destroy something once it has been produced.” ( DMA Lesson 7 footnote) and that appears to be true in this case.

Dorotheus tells us to look at the triplicity rulers of Jupiter which are Venus and the Moon. Venus is in the 8th (a bad place) and the Moon is in the 11th (a good place); Dorotheus says this combination of good/bad indicates children but with “misery and lamentation”.

Kennedy had three children, Caroline, John, and Patrick. Patrick died shortly after birth and John died in a plane crash off Martha's Vineyard on July 16, 1999.

The Lot of Daughters was active when Caroline was born. In the radix it is at 19 Cancer in the 9th house, a good place, sextile the Moon (2º14'), it's dispositor, in the 11th. The profection was in the 5th (children) and the directed Asc was involved in a direction as were the Moon, Jupiter (ruler of the lot of Children), Mars (triplicity ruler), and the lot of Children.

The Lot of Sons (from Mercury to Jupiter) was active at John's birth, it is in the radix at 17 Libra in the 12th (sorrow) conjunct the Asc, trine (0º42') Venus, its dispositor, and in a mitigated inconjunct (opposition) with Mars (1º13'). His birth was difficult (Mars) but not deadly. Mercury, the ruler of the profected 5th was active as were Uranus (conjunct radix 5th), Venus (ruler of the the lot of Sons), the lot of Children.

And the Lot of Child-Male (from Mars to Jupiter) was active at the time of Patrick's birth; in the radix, it is at 24 Libra in the 1st in Saturn's square (2º38') and involved in a mitigated inconjunct (opposition) (1º29') with Jupiter (accidental malefic). Unlike the Lots connected with Caroline and John, Patrick's lot is being harmed by malefics and is not in aspect with its dispositor, Venus. The Moon, ruler of the profected 5th was active as was the lot of Children (which was critical at 29 CP).

Of the three lots, the Lot of Daughters had the best placement and aspect.

Triplicity Rulers
The 5th is in Aquarius with Saturn ruling. Saturn is in Cancer so the 1st triplicity ruler is Venus, the 2nd is Mars and the participating ruler is the Moon. Both Venus and Mars are in the 8th, a bad placement, only the Moon is well placed in the 11th. Venus and Mars do not aspect one another however Mars is joined to the Moon, participating ruler, by trine (1º13'). As Mars is the 2nd triplicity ruler we would expect any children to be born in the second half of life. All three children were born when Kennedy was 40 and older.

12th Parts
The calculated 12th part of Saturn is 22 GE 57 which falls in the 9th (a good place) trine (0º46') Uranus (unexpected). Uranus is in the 4th (family) 3º28' minutes from the cusp of the 5th.

By division, the 12th part is in Pisces which is the 6th place from the Ascendant indicating misfortune in connection with children.

Again, both placements appear relevant, indicating children (a good place, 9th) connected with the unexpected (Uranus) misfortune (6th).

Marriage is generally said to be signified by the 7th place, the Moon and Venus (in a man's chart), and the Lot of Marriage.

Kennedy has Aries on the 7th with Mars in Taurus, a fixed sign, which would indicate one marriage. Mars is joined by a close trine (1º13') to the Moon (general significator of the wife) in the 11th which indicates he will marry. The trine and the 11th point to a happy marriage but Mars in the 8th speaks to anxiety and misfortune connected with the marriage.

Firmicus claims the Sun and Venus in the 8th in the same sign can make for “a miserable marriage or a difficult wife” while Paulus says Venus in the 8th can make the person “passionate and licentious” which, by all accounts, is true of Kennedy (Venus is ruler of the Asc) who was famous (Sun) for his womanizing which, by all accounts, was a major point of contention in his marriage.

The radix Lot of Marriage is critical in the 11th at 0 Virgo which implies, in some fashion, that his marriage is critical to his life, certainly, it is unlikely he would have become president if he had remained single. Mercury, the lot's ruler, is in the 9th from the lot, indicating a religious and/or legal marriage. This Lot was not active when Kennedy married but Mercury, its ruler, was critical at 29 Pisces, about to enter 0 Aries, the 7th (marriage) whole sign.

As well, the Lot of Marriage Contracts was active with the directed lot being opposite directed Pluto, so it appears the marriage was, in some fashion, negotiated or compelled (Pluto) and possibly motivated by financial concerns (Jupiter, ruler of the radix lot at 21 Sagittarius, is in the 8th). Jackie's mother was apparently adamant both her daughters marry money and it is thought she was instrumental in the break-up of an earlier engagement between Jackie and a not very wealthy stock broker. There is also the possibility that Pluto, a 9th house planet, indicates the “religious” aspect was compelled given that the Kennedy's insisted on a large and very public Catholic wedding when Jackie's family was not Catholic.

At the time of the marriage Venus (L1) and Mars (L7) were involved in a mitigated semi-sextile, effectively conjunct.

Triplicity Rulers
Mars is in Taurus making Venus the 1st triplicity ruler, the Moon the 2nd with Mars as the participating ruler. Mars is trine the Moon and was active at the time of the marriage, it is not in aspect with Venus so again, it points to an event in the 2nd half of the life; Kennedy married when he was 36 years old.

12th Parts
Mars calculated 12th part falls at 29 SA 25, another indication that marriage is a critical element in his life. By division, Mars 12th part also falls in Sagittarius which is on the 3rd of short journeys, 9th from the 7th.

In retrospect, we know a short journey (a ride in Dallas) was extremely “critical” to the life and marriage but in a blind reading of the chart perhaps the most that could be said was to beware of accidents (Mars) while travelling (3rd) with your wife (7th). Or, from the perspective of the derived 9th, the marriage will be a religious and/or legal one in which inconstant (Sagittarius is mutable) passions (Sagittarius is fire) and strife (Mars) play a critical (anaretic degree) role.

At first glance, Kennedy's chart does not make you think of someone who will one day be president. The majority of planets are in succedent (middling) houses. There are no planets in domicile or exaltation, neither the Sun nor Moon is angular or closely connected to the Asc or MC. The Ascendant ruler Venus is with the Sun but she is heading into combustion which could indicate a “fame” that will eventually harm the person. Saturn is the only traditional planet in an angle but he is in detriment which, possibly, gives a small clue the person will hold some high position as Saturn in the 10th promises a fall. But at first glance it simply looks like the chart of a fairly average person who might be famous (Sun) for the way he dies (Sun conjunct the Asc ruler in the 8th).

The 8th house planets do give a few clues there may be a rise in life as Firmicus says that Jupiter with Mars (4º 37') indicates "high position and great power" with Mercury it makes "the natives powerful, outstanding in counsel and oratory, trained in all fields of learning, and the objects of general admiration. They are particularly outstanding as orators for the fluency of their speech." While Mercury with Mars "will make the natives intelligent and learned in great doctrine, but liars, adept at every evil deed. They use their intelligence for all kinds of trickery and meet every contest with malice and fraud." While the Sun with Venus "will make the native famous.” Not overwhelming endorsements for reaching the heights of the presidency of the United States. But it turns out the indications are confirmed by Lilly's secret helpers and hinderers: the Fixed Stars. Kennedy has

• Altair at 0 AQ 37, within 22' of Fortune, it has the natures of Mars and Jupiter and gives excessive ambition with the promise of a rise in life and high honours
• Aldebaran at 8 GE 28 within 48' of the Sun; it has the nature of Mars, gives extraordinary ambition, courage and public honours
• Proycon at 24 CA 38, within 59' of the MC; it has the nature of Mercury and Mars and is said to raise people to great heights only to bring them crashing down

The three appear to reinforce the initial indications of a rise in life as well as the indications for a down fall. And a last indication that if he does rise in life it will end in ruin is given by the SAN at 29 Taurus in the 8th. Valens says if the Syzygy Ante Navitatem (SAN), the new or full moon immediately preceding the birth, is badly placed (in the 8th here) and configured with malefics (with an accidental malefic, in the same sign as Mars, and sextile Saturn), the native is base, and even if they do obtains a high rank, they will end in ruin. So in effect, the indications are for a rather average but ambitious man who will rise in life only to come to a famous and disastrous end.

When he became President his directed Asc was in opposition to directed Jupiter, an accidental malefic who gave him what he wanted “high position and great power” and then took it all away when he moved into a mitigated semi-sextile (conjunction) with the directed SAN and a doubled square with Fortune while within 1º of being at the Moon's bending, in square to the radix nodes while the directed MC (rank and position) was trine the directed lot of Death.

Triplicity Rulers
According to Dorotheus, the triplicity ruler of the sect light provide a clue to the eminence the person may achieve. Kennedy's is a diurnal birth with the Sun in Gemini giving him Saturn as the 1st triplicity ruler, Mercury as the 2nd with Jupiter as the participating triplicity ruler. An angular triplicity ruler makes the person “fortunate and illustrious”, “vigorous and effective”; the closer the ruler is to the angle the more “perfect in fortune in property” and the higher the “rank in eminence and fortune”. Saturn is angular and within 3º 30' of the MC, so fairly close, indicating a high rank but only in term and detriment, so not much eminence. Mercury and Jupiter give indications for an average rank and no eminence as both are peregrine. Saturn, being the 1st triplicity ruler, would indicate he gains rank in the first part of his life. He became president at the age of 43 which would give him an expected lifetime of 86 or more.

12th Parts
Using the Sun at 7 GE 50 as the general significator of rank and eminence, the calculated 12th part falls at 11 VI 50 in the 11th (a good place) with its ruler, Mercury, in the 10th from the 11th conjunct Mars. So possibly a good rise in life that ends in a violent (Mars) death (8th) because of his career (10th). Mercury has no dignity of its own, being peregrine, but he is in mutual reception by exaltation with the Moon so perhaps that points to some degree of eminence, at least with woman or with the help of his wife. Mercury is the 2nd triplicity ruler so would point to the 2nd half of life.

By division, the 12th part falls in Virgo with the same indications.

The 12th part of the MC at 23 CA 39 falls at 7 TA 27, Aries by division and the 12th part of the Moon, ruler of the MC, at 17 VI 12 falls at 13 AR 36, Pisces by division. Neither appears overly relevant.

General Overview of the Life

Just to round things off, I generally enter a chart by taking a basic overview of its elements as recommended by Zain. Kennedy's has all but one planet above the horizon, an indication he led a very public life. All but three planets are in the western hemisphere of the chart, an indication that rather than shaping the world to fit himself, the world will shape him. He has planets in all the elements, which gives him some balance with 4 in earth indicating practicality, while 3 in air indicate he is intellectual and at times indecisive, 2 in water make him capable of sympathy and kindness while 1 in fire adds a spark of zeal and enthusiasm especially when something sparks his imagination (Neptune in Fire).

Again, he has planets in all three quadruplicates, giving a degree of balance in handling his affairs. With the majority, 5, in the fixed signs he pays attention to details, can be rigid, and determined but with 3 in the mutable signs he is also adaptable while 2 in the cardinal signs means he can get things started on his own when necessary.

The bulk of his planets (9 of them) are in the public houses (8 thru 11), an indication most of his energies are spent in activities that will attract the public's attention. Which is odd given, with 6 planets in the psychic houses (4, 8, 12) he likes secrets. It is telling that the one planet below the horizon (where things are kept private) is Uranus in the 4th (family) conjunct the 5th (affairs), unluckily for him Uranus' partile square with Jupiter in the 8th (a public house) meant any secrets involving both the family and his affairs would not remain secret.

His Asc ruler, Venus, is trine the Asc and in a wide trine with Uranus creating a Grand Trine; he would have no problem attracting women or in acting in non-conformist ways; and given that Uranus is square Jupiter, Mercury, and Mars in the 8th it is that trait of non-conformity that caused most of the difficulties in his life. The other main area of contention in his life came from the square between his Moon (mother/wife) and Sun (father) in connection with his inheritance/wife's money (8th) and his need for support in his chosen career (11th).

With so many planets in the 8th his family's money, his inheritance and death will play a big role in his life, as will his father (Sun) given that Venus, the Asc ruler, is heading into combustion.

Extended Speculum December 31, 1912 – Arrested
Louis celebrated New Year's Eve by firing a gun in the street; he was arrested and sent to reformatory where he was given music lessons.

The profection was in the 12th whole sign, putting the profected Asc at 19 PI 19 and making Jupiter Lord of the Year. The 12th rules crimes and reformatories. Jupiter is in and rules the radix 9th (courts, education) the derived 10th (career) and is with Saturn, the greater malefic who is an accidental benefic in this chart by being in domicile in a good house (9th) and ruling good houses (10th and 11th) in the radix although at the time of the event he rules the derived 12th from the 12th (indicating some harm in the year). He is, however, in the derived 11th (a good place) so indications are for some good (9th, 11th) to come out of a bad (12th) situation.

Jupiter in this chart is mixed as he is in and rules a good house (9th) but he also rules the 12th of evil fortune; he has only the minor dignity of Face and is in his Fall so he is apt to bring on sudden (Fall) unfortunate (12th) events that, all things being equal, somehow end well (11th, 9th).

1. The directed Asc, N. Node and lot of Danger of Violence are all changing degrees indicating a possibly violent event that will critically (Node) affect his personal life (Asc) in some manner. Virtually every directed aspect played some part in the event.

2. Directed Saturn is conjunct the radix MC, which it rules, that could indicate confinement (Saturn) by authorities (MC is 10th). Directed Saturn is also in opposition to the directed lot of Enmity with the radix lot of Enmity being in the 3rd (neighbours) in the square of the Moon (women) it's possible a neighbourhood woman reported him to the police or possibly even his mother or some other female relative reported him as Enmity is in the derived 4th and the Moon rules the radix 4th of family.

3. The directed Asc is opposite directed Mars (Asc ruler) indicating some violence by or towards him. As the aspect falls in the terms of Jupiter and Mars is received into his domicile in Aries lasting harm is averted (there is an aphorism that Mars never harms his own house). Directed Mercury (in Mars terms) square the directed Asc would point to a poor decision on Armstrong's part.

4. The directed 11th (profected 12th) is in opposition to the directed Sun (authorities) and inconjunct directed Venus, ruler of the profected 3rd (neighbours) and profected 8th (death, fines, debts) . The directions fall in the terms of Mars who is in the profected 7th of conflict which would indicate harm from neighbours and authorities.

5. Uranus (unexpected) is trine the directed lot of Death and in opposition to directed Neptune in the derived 4th (family). Louis was separated (opposition) from his family; the aspects occur in the terms of Jupiter which appears to have averted lasting harm

6. The directed North Node is in a mitigated sextile with radix Venus in the 5th of schools and entertainment.

7. While the lot of Danger of Violence is changing degrees, it is not active by aspect; the threat of violence without permanent violence being inflicted (?)

Louis was sent to a reformatory where he was educated (9th ) in music (Venus, 5th ) which eventually led to a career (MC) in music.
