There is a fascinating little video about a German book printed in1540 called the Astronomicum Caesareum.

The book contains numerous movable dials and silk threads that allow the user to find the position of the Moon's nodes and time eclipses among other things. It's beautifully hand crafted and was sent out to a number of dignitaries, King Henry VIII included.

It's beautiful. Curiously, I added a similar video link to the eclipse page I was working on a few days ago (the link is behind the image of the volvelle in the margin on this page - https://www.skyscript.co.uk/eclipserules.html)

It is the same text, with a similar explanation of how that volvelle works, but the video you posted is better - really gives a great sense of how magnificent that book, and Peter Apian's work is.
