Since the sun is in exile in aquarius,  acting like some kind of outsider ,then I assume the Asc or any other planet in aquarius will act quite differently.

How different is Asc and sun in aquarius in your experience?

Hi Orises,

It's important to keep in mind why the Sun is in detriment in Aquarius. Aquarius is opposite Leo - the Sun's home and natural rulership. This is the same for all detriments/exiles. They are all opposite the planet's home sign.

The ascendant doesn't have a home/domicile sign since it's not a planet. Angles tend to act more like "life energies" than "parts of the self" like the planets. For example, the ascendant shows what life is helping us develop and what we've developed through our life experiences. This makes sense if you consider that what's rising is what is increasing in our lives. The increasing part of the sky representing the increasing part of life.

The angles will act more neutral towards a particular signs. I would of course say that the challenging signs such as Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces will be more challenging ascendants to work with. Aquarius is generally an easier sign to work with and thus generally easier ascendant to work with.

The Ascendant is merely a reference point for planets that aspect that point, and the placement and aspects made to the sign ruler. It may be that small degree areas of signs have specific meaning, but little or no research has been done to isolate those meanings. Robert Schmidt, who translated ancient Hellenistic texts, used to remind us that three planetary placements are important for the accurate interpretation of a chart:

(1) Domicile lord (sign ruler) of the Ascendant
(2) Domicile lord (sign ruler) of the Lot of Fortune
(3) Trigon lords of the sect light (Sect = Sun, day birth; Moon, night birth)

Sometimes a certain type of appearance or certain mannerisms may be described by the Ascendant sign, especially if there are no aspects from planets to that point. But in general personality traits, life circumstances and fortune come through the planets.

Mr Pisces who just switch to sidereal zodiac... 'I always knew I was destined to be an Aquarius!'
Mrs Primary Direction... 'A house does not move, the planets do'.
Mrs Secondary Progression... 'Not with me! I swing both ways!'
Mr Leo on the other side... 'I didn't make it off the Titanic'
But who wins, the Sun or the ASC doesn't really matter... or at least you get a constellation prize!

good response therese.. thanks for that particular ''hellenistic type' perspective... i especially like the quote i have isolated above which resonates with my limited understanding of cosmobiology ideology... it is the planets that are the driving force in all this..
